We are now getting about fifty "spam" registrations a day, every day, of people who want to spam the forum with porno, fake drugs sales, or whatever.  Most come from the same email sources, so PLEASE BE ADVISED:

We will NOT accept users with email addresses from cashette.com, mail.ru, web.de, or actually almost any .ru address unless you contact me first.  These email addresses will be rejected without investigation. Don't bother even trying to register, they will be rejected. If you use a .ru email address, you MUST email me first (rob@thecellaraustin.com) and let me know your intended user name and email address after verifying you are a legitimate user. I'm sorry, but we get 25 plus spam users EVERY day from .ru email addresses. I just have no other choice.

Email addresses from hotmail.com, gmail.com or yahoo.com will be investigated and if you use an obviously silly, made up, or non-sensical user name or email address, you stand a good chance of being rejected unless you contact me first to advise me and confirm you are a legitimate user.

I'm sorry that it has come to this, but the attempts to spam our forum with awful material and for inappropriate reasons is just getting out of hand.

I apologise that the occassional valid user may be accidentally rejected, but I hope you understand that we have an obligation to protect the integrity of this forum and its genuine users.

Dear Users and Guests,

The sheer number of spam registrations is growing faster than I ever expected, we are now getting well over 100 every 24 hours.  A new wrinkle seems to have come up.

As some of you may know, aol browser users are literally "anonymous" to track, everyone uses the same aol servers regardless of their geographic location.

As a result, FROM THIS MOMENT ON (meaning if you're already a long time user, don't be worried). ANY USER REGISTERING WITH AN AOL ADDRESS, WHO USES ONLY AOL BROWSERS MAY BE ASKED TO PROVIDE SOME MEANS OF IDENTIFICATION OUTSIDE OF THE AOL EMAIL ADDRESS.  THIS IS NOT AN AUTOMATIC REQUIREMENT, BUT YOUR REGISTRATION USING AN AOL EMAIL IS YOUR AGREEMENT THAT YOU WILL PROVIDE THIS IDENTIFICATION AT THE DISCRETION OF AND UPON REQUEST BY THE FORUM ADMINISTRATION.  ANY INFORMATION PROVIDED WILL NEVER BE REVEALED TO AN OUTSIDE PARTY, AND WILL NEVER BE USED BEYOND THE LIMITED PURPOSE OF YOUR IDENTIFICATION.
IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF UPON REQUEST AND YOU USE ONLY AN AOL EMAIL ADDRESS OR AOL BROWSER, THAN WE MUST DECLINE OR REMOVE YOUR REGISTRATION FOR SECURITY PURPOSES.

We do apologize for this new requirement, however the security of our forum from disruption by those unscrupulous people as well as the security of our many loyal users is of the utmost importance to us, and we hope you appreciate and understand our concerns. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hi, Rob:

I'm an old user, so I don't worry, but the fact is my two e-mails are one of yahoo.com ar and the other a gmail one...What's up with these two kind of mails? What's wrong with them? I'm curious...

any "free" and "easily created" email address is suspect as they are the kind typically used by the spammers and troublemakers. Clearly, "comcast.net" or ".rr.com" or other "legitimate" and "traceable" email addresses are only used by those with nothing to hide.
