Title: Ha! Ha! Ha! They've got it sooooo wrong!
Post by: Beautiful_Anastasia on March 23, 2010, 08:10:30 AM
Hi folks! Just wanted to show you this (It's so funny!), on a usually reliable website. See the picture of the Romanov family? It's one of the tercentenary ones right? Well, hover your mouse over -In turn- Olga, Tatiana and Maria Nikolaevna...They're ALL mislabeled! Plus, it says that Olga died when she was 23! Not 22! It is so laughable!
And here's the link:

That is the norm for most books and websites.  ;)

The book "Royal Russia" is the best example. The Grand Duchesses are mislabeled on all photos. ^^

Oh I know. And i get so mad when they do. And I am like no that is Olga. That is Tatiana. That is Maria. But they usually got Anastasia right on the documentaries.

Same here. :-) I think that's really unprofessional! They call themselves historians and all they do is confusing Olga and Maria! I know it's sometimes pretty hard to identify the girls on pictures but in "Royal Russia" it's obvious who's who.

There is  a few books were the daughters are often mislabeled ba Anastasia.     The one by Prince Michael of Kent's collection is a good example.

I wish that the members of this forum would show greater maturity than this.

The purpose of the site in question was likely, as the web address says, to show history through the eyes of those who lived it. Had you read the article, you would've found the author quite knowledgeable about the events surrounding the execution, and then proceeded to relay the account of Paul Medvedev. That was the entire purpose of the article. The photo? A mere illustration to draw the attention of the reader.

Given, it would have been appreciated if the author/web designer/whoever had done the photo had done some simple research in photo identification. The 1913 series has been labelled time and time again. However one does make mistakes.  As well, I have read in many places that Olga was 23 at the time of the executions, from fansites created by users like us, but I do not point them out and mock them on a simple error.

Who, therefore, is "unprofessional" here? The one who misidentified people in a photo, or the person who pointed it out in a public forum with the title "They got it soooo wrong!"?

Take this error and do as we all do when a mistake is made - laugh and move on.

Forgive my intrusion. I simply wished to express how I felt.

I absolutely agree with you! Thank you for putting it this way. I'am sorry, but sometimes I feel here lika in a kingergarten.

Well, of course everyone makes mistakes and I definitely do not want to mock the authors. It's not a big problem if one or two photos are mislabeled but if the authors confuse OTMA on photos on which they are clearly recognizable is unprofessional for me. Things like this should not happen to historians. The articles in "Royal Russia" are really good though.
I know that the title of this thread sounds childish and maybe even rude but the fact is that many users here are pretty young and I'm sure Beautiful_Anastasia didn't want to be offensive. But to make one thing clear: I'm definitely not immature. I'm only expressing my opinion.
