I believe Imperialrussia.com (or anyone else) is free to post photos from their personal collection as long as they're not advertised for sale or linked to auctions or online stores.

Just to be clear. Anyone is indeed allowed to share photographs they own here so long they do not advertise them for sale. If Imperial Russia is gracious enough to share the photos, so long as they aren't advertised for sale, that is within our rules.

Did you post a real picture of Alexei to prove that naval man is him?

In the 1st "GD Alexei" picture is not Alexei. My argument: the photo of that naval commander was taken in the 1870s - those years such beard-style was very fashionable, and GD Alexei also worn such a beard, but in the 1870s he was a young man, not that middle-aged as in the photo. Later, when he was older, he worn the style of the beard one can see in the real photo of him.

And, by the way, the unknown man has the straps of an Admiral, and GD Alexeli was a General-Admiral.

Forked beards were fashionable at one stage among senior officers. Probably the most famous example is the German Admiral von Tirpitz, born in 1849, so a contemporary of Grand Duke Alexei.

This is a cdv of Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia born in 1832 who was the fourth son and seventh child of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia and Charlotte of Prussia.

In 1857 he married Princess Cecily of Baden, daughter of Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden and Sophie of Sweden. He served for 20 years as the Governor General of Caucasia, being seated in Tbilisi. In the course of his life, four members of his family ruled as Emperors of Russia: his father, Nicholas I; his brother, Alexander II; his nephew, Alexander III; and his grand-nephew, Nicholas II. He served all of them loyally. He died in Cannes, France, on 18 December 1909.
