Title: Princess Alexandra of Greece (1870-91)
Post by: Svetabel on January 17, 2006, 06:45:16 AM
A thread on Grand Duchess Alexandra Georgievna (1870-91), nee Princess of Greece, eldest daughter of King Georgios I and Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna of Russia. Princess Alexandra was married to GD Pavel Alexandrovitch, youngest son of Emperor Alexnder II, in 1889. They were very happy couple but their happiness ended tragically. Alexandra died after giving a birth to her 2d child, GD Dmitry...
I am very interested in GD Alexandra - we know very little about her, moreover she was mother of GDss Maria Pavlovna-younger, my favourite character in the Imperial family.

A show of all photos of GD Alexandra I've ever seen. If somebody have more photos - you are welcome in sharing pictures with us! Any info is appreciated too! Some photos are courtesy of our Forums members – thanks!

As Princess of Greece with her family

Here she is at the right. Her future husband is by her side

Well, I came across a compiled picture of King Christian IX's decsendants. I think it was printed in 1896-1897. You can see GDss Alexandra with her mother Queen Olga and GD Pavel! And as we know Alexandra died in 1891.

The whole pictire. I think that was 1896 year as Princess Maud of Wales is wearing her wedding gown  :)

The picture posted by Kmerov on the Danish thread. I think that girl behind King Georg of Greece and near Queen Olga, is Alexandra (left corner of the picture)

Based on an old print I have, the magazine ID'd it as Alexandra. Now, they often get them wrong but I think it's correct in this case.

Here's what they write (from left to right):

Tsar Alexander III, CP Constantine, Tsarevich Nicholas, AIII, Nicholas of Greece, GD George, Queen Olga, CP Frederick, Toria, Alexandra Greece, George I, Marie (Orleans), Alexandra, Minny, Queen Louise, CIX, Eddy, Bertie, Xenia, Minny

I've been searching for Alexandra's photos again and came across these group-shots (below). It seems they were posted by some of our Forums' members.
Possibly someone has better versions of these pictures.

And the other one. Right corner of the picture: a girl standing behind Prss Maud of Wales and Prince Waldemar and Crownprince Fredrik of Denmark by her sides,  is DEFINITELY Alexandra.

That's a studio photo, taken in Vienna.

Thanks. It is quite clear that the photograph was taken in a studio but one connects birches rather with nordic countries (also as a studio background...) than e.g. Austria.

Probably. The Royals were travelling around Europe constantly, visiting relatives, friends, their peers, strengthening health at popular resorts and so on.
