Title: Fall of Eagles
Post by: Robert_Hall on April 12, 2004, 09:03:17 PM
This topic seems to deserve it's own  topic title.

I think several of us have the  "taped from home" vhs  series.  I wrote to BBC some time ago for permission to transfer my tapes to dvd.  Well, BBC is notorious for lack of response,  so I really can't  have this done until copyright permission is waived. At least legitamately.

As for the book:  Elisa, it is fairly easy to obtain from the websites-EBay, Bookfinders, etc. I have several copies. I give them away as gifts sometimes. Even one in miniarure for my doll's house !! [That I will NOT give away, however]
I have not checked lately, so I do not know what the going price is for the book.

Cheers,
Robert

I finally DID recieve legal permission to transfer my tapes to dvd, Just weeks before it came out on commercial release, which I would rather have anyway.
Cheers,
Robert

You are most welcome. I fear though, that BBC may not repeat this programme on air, now that the dvd has been released. I was told that they have reclaimed US distribution rights. I do not know how true that is, however.
Glad you like the book. I think it is quite good as well. Sulzberger is an excellent author !
Cheers,
Robert

I got the DVD a few weeks ago - and watched the entire series this week while I recuperated at home with viral pneumonia. ... a fanastic series.  Will watch it again soon.

I wish the French would translate Frederic Mitterrand's magnificent six episode-series: Les Aigles Foudroyes and Memoires d'Exil...wuich are simply spell-binding!

Yeah, and get a narrator who wasn't a droner!

indeed...I have often times thought of translating the narration and playing the dvds at the Eurohistory Conference...that would be fun don't you think?

How about a book on tape/CD? I wish they came out with that for this one!

That would be interesting as well...both Mitterrand series were published in book form, I have copies of these, in French and had a wonderful time reading them.

But the idea of doing a voice over so we can watch them during the conference this mid-October sounds actually pretty good.

I have a good voice, but we'd have to get an excellent translation ... how's someone's French????

Translating it for me is not a problem whatsoever...

We'll see...cannot promise...have to ask Frederic Mitterrand first.

But if you attend the ERHJ conference you can see and hear it in person!

This year's Eurohistory Conference is in Emeryville, CA, across the Bay from San Francisco and will be held on October 15-16...two days.

Thanks. It sounds like fun! Is it ever held on the East Coast?

Nope...we always get a healthy contingent of East Coasters who fly out west to attend the conference.
