Title: Big New Faberge Eggs Exhibit
Post by: grandduchessella on May 13, 2005, 09:47:28 PM
Apparently all the eggs (9?) of the Vekselberg Collection will be on display at the Brussels Europalia Oct 6 2005 to Jan 22 2006. Man I wish I still lived in Germany. (Even though after a horrible trip around Brussels I swore I'd never go back to that city.  :) )  Is the Veselberg Collection the one that bought many of the Forbes Collection?

I think Viktor Vekselberg bought the whole collection which means 15 Fabergé eggs, including the imperial easter eggs and the pink Duchess of Marlborough egg and the Nobel ice egg, photo frames etc.

I wish too that I could travel to see the collection...

I guess, I'll just check the eggs from this adress:

Wouldn't it be great? I did see the Forbes collection a long time ago when it was in New York but I don't have the catalog. Hopefully this exhibit will--it would be silly not to.

Where will the eggs be displayed after this exhibit?  Do they have a home in Russia yet?  I am planning a 2007 trip to Russia and want to see as many eggs as possible.  Are there any dispalyed that are not in the armory or part of this collection?  Thanks for any help!!

Dear Miek I've just spent an hour with your website.  I learned so much about Faberge Eggs, I never knew that the last egg existed.  The pictures of it are so touching to view. Many thanks for such a wonderful informative website.
I am so glad that you have joined us here, welcome. We can use your expertise!
..Arleen
PS I wish somehow they had left the last egg unfinished....they ruined it somehow.

I just read in Arts Mag. That one of the eggs is a fake. Its the one that oppens to a basket of flowers, red on the outside.
I dont remember the name of it. Tatiana Faberge. Said it wasnt her Grand fathers work.

Must be one **** of a fake !  I am by no means an expert but I did see this collection in St.P. recently and was totally amazed at them.  Having seen others at different exhibit I would love to see them all together in one place. However that seems highly unlikely.

Robert, a friend put the story under my nose. I wont be back in the city till Wensday. Will try and get the info before. It seemed real with a Faberge family member agreeing with it.

Discussion about the fake Egg is about the Spring Flowers Egg, http://www.mieks.com/Faberge2/Other-Eggs/Imperial-Spring-Flowers-Egg.htm; see note at the end of the page.

Hi,Robert, sorry it took so long to respond. Just got it today. ARTnews,6/05. "Is the Egg a Bad Apple", A Russian scholar says a Faberge treasure is counterfeit.  Its the Spring Flowers Egg. The scholar is Valentin Skurlov, and Tatiana Faberge agrees with him.

Found it. I dislike the term "fake" as it apparently is a REAL Faberge piece, just not an Imperial one.
