Title: Atlantis Magazine
Post by: Sarushka on August 08, 2005, 08:49:40 PM
Anyone know if the special Fate of the Romanovs edition of Atlantis Magazine is still available? I read somewhere that Atlantis isn't being printed any longer...

Thanks -- I sent Penny a message last month & got no reply, so something must have gone awry.

My email address might be hard to reach right now -- I have set a whole lot of spam blockers etc. in order to get rid of the massive amounts of invitations I receive to explore the worlds of various groups of "hot chicks" and experts in penis enlargement...

However, although Atlantis' volumes 3-6 are available, we are experiencing some technical difficulties because my printers are down for some fairly expensive maintenance, and so it will probably be another 2-4 weeks before I'm back up and running.

I'll let you know here when that happens!  :D

Penny,
I e-mailed you about this, but you probably didn't get the message:

How could I get copies of articles from volume 1 of Atlantis?  I'm especially interested in Greg King's articles about film portrayals of the Romanovs, and the articles from volume 1, number 4, about Anastasia and Anna Anderson.

Thank you!

I have sent an email to Greg and Penny on the "Fate of the Romanovs" website, indicating that I would like to buy all back issues of Atlantis Magazine -- I thought I'd post here as well, in case they see this and can tell me of a better way to communicate with them. Thanks in advance! And Merry Christmas to all!

Thank you Penny Wilson, you have helped me clarify where all the 'extra' e-mail came from. Thank goodness for those spam blockers,  ;) or else we wouldn't be able to receive any worth while reading. Believe me, I look only for worth while reading. Hope to see more of your posting and Greg's !

Best to you this Holiday Season ! Happy New Year.

Tatiana

Hi!  I keep reading references to "Atlantis magazine", which sounds fascinating.  I would very much like to purchase back copies---does anyone know how to go about this?  I'm sorry if this is posted somewhere already---I haven't come across it.  Thank you very much!

Hello Alibubba,

Atlantis Magazine: In The Courts of Memory belongs to Greg King and I.  We ran it for five years, and then found that we had to give it up because of other time commitments.  We are slowly placing on-line articles from the magazine that were written by Greg and/or I -- articles written by other authors will be uploaded once permission is asked for and received.

We have already uploaded part of the Atlantis issue that contained information edited out of our book The Fate of the Romanovs before publication.  You can see that here: http://www.kingandwilson.com/fotrextras/

Please keep checking back for further uploads, which will happen as time allows.

Thanks for your interest!

~Penny

Thank you Janet
Are all the articles on line?
How long was the magazine in print and how many issues were printed?
Thank you

Not all issues or articles are on line. We published it from 1999-(I think) 2005, and generally (though not always) with four issues a year of about 75-150 pages each. Unfortunately Penny lost many of the saved file copies in a computer crash, though we may attempt at some point to reassemble and scan something from the surviving hard copies and make it available on line, but would have to check first with the multitude of people who wrote for us to get clearance. Possibly something for the future.

The article on Imperial yatchs is absolutely fascinating but difficult to read (white is difficult to read).  Where did you source your research from?

Re Reply #19 and "ashanti01":   You are absolutely correct, "ashanti01" !  I read and re-read the articles that I could/can access online quite frequently.  Best regards,  AP.

I just read your footnotes so I answered my own question.  Do you know much about the post revolutionary history of Polar Star?

I don't know much re: Polar Star other than what went in to the article or into that section of my book The Court of the Last Tsar-just, I believe, that it was used by the Soviet Navy, as was Standart. I thought it had been scrapped at some point-I seem to recall reading this, but I cannot remember the details, unfortunately.

Well it is obvious that it would have been scrapped at some point but it would be interesting to know the details.  The Marti was not very effective as a naval ship.  I think it is a shame that neither yatch was preserved and used as a floating museum.  Perhaps someone in St Petersburg with access to the Naval Museum there might be able to find something.

I believe I read (but cannot confirm or say where now) that Marti ended up in an Estonian yard to be scrapped. I am pretty sure this is what took place though I cannot recall the year of place.

that is correct about the Marti.   I think this happened in the 1960s. My gut feeling about the Polar Star is that it was used as a floating detention centre for a while and maybe the fittings were taken off and used by high level communist officials to refurnish apartments and dachas and then it was left to rot  or the materials taken but this is just a hunch.  But perhaps someone at the St Petersburg naval museum has records of it.

I must say that I miss Atlantis.  I have the whole series and still go back and read them on occasions.  I understand there was an incredible amount of work (especially for two people) to coordinate, write and manage a magazine of that size and that depth - but can't help wishing it had continued to be printed.

In my opinion Atlantis was the best ever royalty "magazine" (the word doesn't do it justice), and I mean no disrespect to the other magazines by saying that.  Penny and Greg have much to be proud of.  I constantly refer back to my copies and can still remember the excitement when a new publication arrived!

I am entranced by the term "Atlantis expert". Its certainly possible to be an expert in something that doesnt exist, but nonetheless, the phrase seems to flirt with the idea "oxymoron", doesnt it?

Actually, many think that Atlantis did exist.

However, it wasn't this huge continent in the Atlantic.  Rather, it was an island in the eastern Mediterranean.

I was born in Madeira Island, a Portuguese island in the northern coast of Africa. People there think that Madeira is the top of Atlantis

Yeah, I've heard that too.

I wonder if anyone has dived there to try and find out.
