Laura,

Great start!  It looks like we'll be seeing a lot of great stuff from you.  Just a note - perhaps it's my settings, but it was rather difficult to navigate.  I didn't have a backup button at all.  Any particular reason that you might know of?

Thanks and regards,
Tasha

Yeah...  :-X
Because I have it in a pop up window it takes away the navigation buttons.  I am in the process of updating that so it won't be a problem. Hopefully I'll have it all fixed within the next few days. Sorry for any inconvenience

But I am hoping to have something new up for Jan.  :)

I have a question,. Laura Mabee.
When I right-click (to save target as) on the real Romanov Family videos, the ones that say that they were made available by Getty Images, those don't let me save them as targets.
???  ???  ???
How can I view these?

I fixed them about 20 minutes ago. Just refresh the page if it's still giving you issues. I have to warn everyone though, you'll need Quicktime to view all the video from Getty. Although, the videos are really worth it.

Hello Guys!
I just thought I would post that I actually updated the site today; there is some more stuff to poke about and see.

I would like to Thank Annemarie, who is a member here for her amazing contribution!

Happy Belated New Years guys!  :)

I can't navigate to anything because the links to the pages are so far down.  :(
Title: Re: Frozen Tears
Post by: Laura Mabee on January 09, 2006, 11:48:10 AM
EDIT: I think I might understand what the problem is.
Are you saying that the links to the other parts of the website are too low on the page? Or that the links are down and non functional (ie. you get either 404's or "Cannot connect to server" etc...)

May I ask what your resolution is? the website resolution is 800x600. Would your resolution possibly be 640 x 480?

If it's a link problem (as in the links don't work). Which links are they? I would love to fix them a.s.a.p. but all of them work for me over here, so I would love to know which links are causing problems.

Sorry about the inconvience!

Thank you very much :D I appreciate your sweet compliments. The answer to your question is Richard Rodney Bennett and Christopher Gunning. Christopher was uncredited for his works, however, he did not contribute as much as Sir Richard Rodney Bennett. Many thanks go out to our sweet Annemarie for sending me the soundtrack to share!

Hi Laura,
I went on your website last night and was scanning through - breifly as it was late at night - and I loved what I saw. It was so well set out, you had good pictures and wonderful newspaper and magazine clippings ect. that I had never seen before. It was so wonderful to see something new. You should be really happy with what you've done! I love the background and the colours you've chosen.
I can't wait to see the new section your going to put up soon! I look forward to it!  :)

Laura --

Thank you for a wonderful site!!   :)

I can only imagine how much time and hard work goes into making something like this happen -- it is all I can do to navigate around the AP site, let alone put up a site of my own!!   ::)

It is also great to see a site so well researched and laid out -- you know that the info is reliable and not "hijacked" off somebody else's website also.

I have it on my "favorites" list and will keep coming back for more!  Congrats big time!   :D

After which, I have a band new artist to feature... and I would love to update my previous artists with new works aswell. I got tones of stuff in movies, and audio I need to share, as well as a comic book. So much to do! *many hugs to everyone*

Thank you thank you thank you for having The Last Days of the Last Tzar available on the site!  What an interesting film.  Great casting all around.  The best Kharitonov I have seen (of the two films he is in) and, except for the white blonde hair of Anastasia, great daughters (especially Marie).

The spaniel made me SO sad!  I expected the murder, but not that.

Laura truly is one of the "angels" of this site -- her website is amazing and is always being improved and added to (the newest additions are nothing short of fantastic!) -- plus she has helped so very many people who frequent this site with very little
fanfare or acknowledgement -- everything from computer assistance to moderating the "Having Fun" thread.

I think that actually she must be two people -- because no one person can have the amount of time to be able to do what she does and still have a life -- and be an "angel" to the many critters that she helps as well --  :-*

A very special friend to all of us!     ;D

Well Dmitri, the speed depends on your distance from the server.
I download at good speeds, others have too, but unfortunatly not everyone can.

I spend over $200 in hosting a year, so when I'm doing all the coding, and whatnot on my own it can't be perfect. Like my Grandmum always said "Never look a gift horse in the mouth"

Thanks so much everyone for the kind comments! I'm sorry if I'm slow at getting back to emails.
It's one of the things on my "to-do" list this week.

I'm happy though, that so many are getting a kick out of the site, it brings me joy to see others enjoy it!

I'm also thinking of doing a re-design of the site... what are your thoughts?

Honestly. You guy rock!

EDIT: Oops Guys! I totally did a huge Boo-boo!
The new version of Romanovy seems to have formatted incorrectly! The Aspect Ratio is totally off, and the screen seems to be ridiculously brighter; which is drowning things out. I'm going to try and fix this tonight, and have the corrected version ready for Friday *Crosses Fingers*
I'm not sure what happened there. I'll be sure to fix it asap. (I'll re-rip it tonight and hopefully have it uploaded for Friday)

You know, I actually came up with the name when I was in high school. I had been planning on a website for a number of years, and when I thought of this name it just stuck. To be honest, I have been debating about renaming the site for sometime now. I am worried that it may sound to .... melodramatic. I was debating new names such as weseven.org or redeveloping naotmaa.org, etc. I am unsure now. When I asked about redeveloping the site I got a lot of feedback with people who preferred "Frozentears.org". So I may just stick with it, what does everyone think?

Yes mame! Just right click>save as the links to the clips.

Opinion Time!
I need opinions of everyone regarding the future of Frozentears.org. First, I must say, I apologize for the delay in updates. It is not because I don't have updates, it really is because I have bad time management. I'm in the midst of doing a huge overhaul on Frozentears.org (Design, and more content! - like many more audiobooks/documentaries/movies, etc in both Russian and English.) I don't know how long it'll take, but the hope is for a spring/summer release. At least for content anyway. We'll see what happens. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/n_sane_peace/Smiles/unsure.gif)

Here is where I need your opinions!
I have downloaded a lot of content to share, but as technology changes so does the size of things. Many of the files that I would like to share are rather large! (Over a Gb)
I'm looking for a way to share large sized files in smaller bits. I'm unsure if I should just compress big files into smaller zip/rar files, or go with HJSplit. Any suggestions? ideas?

Also.... as a teaser for an upcoming update, I may be interviewing a phenomenal author whose work is due to come out this spring/summer. Stay tuned! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/n_sane_peace/Smiles/cool.gif)

Laura, thanks for sharing the photos from your trip. When I'm finished replying, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the tour! I can't wait to see the new look for the site as well as all the new things you're going to put up. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the videos in particular.

I like the name Frozen Tears too, but at the same time We Seven is rather striking as well.

As for the files, my only concern is quality. Would the process of compressing the files diminish the video quality? If not, I think I'd rather they be done that way and stay all in one file rather than split.

*edit* Wonderful photos, Laura! But I'm so disappointed that I can't click on the ones on Facebook, particularly the ones taken on the Children's Island. I've never seen any taken so close to the little house!

Thanks EmmyLee! I apprecaite your kind compliments! I'm sorry the images didn't enlarge. I can post the full ones on here once I get home to my computer.

As for the files, my only concern is quality. Would the process of compressing the files diminish the video quality? If not, I think I'd rather they be done that way and stay all in one file rather than split.
I agree 100%. I am not willing to loose quality. If I take a high quality file (that is about 1.6Gb), and split the file into four 400Mb pieces (say with either winrar/winzip or hjsplit.) and then put the pieces online to download. Once someone downloads all the pieces and puts them back together again, the file will be 1.6Gb.
What those programs do, is take one large piece and split it for easier downloading.

It is kind of like a puzzle. I take a large puzzle, split it into 4 pieces, each piece is needed for the puzzle to work, but once all the pieces are downloaded and together it makes a large puzzle. No quality loss. My concern would be that the process of this may confuse people.

I really appreciate the feedback! It is really important to me to know what everyone thinks, because in the end, this website is for you guys. So here is another question for you guys, would everyone like documentaries, etc on people/places close to NAOTMAA? For example, a documentary on Olga A. or Mathilde K.?  What does everyone think about a section for "legends" which will have Anna Anderson, Rasputin, etc documentaries?

Edited: For Clarity. I think I was confused when I wrote my initial post.
Title: Re: Frozen Tears
Post by: EmmyLee on February 25, 2011, 09:12:37 PM
I admit that I'm still confused about the splitting. Would the end result be several different files to download and then you watch one video segment and move on to the other? Assassin of the Tsar was split, wasn't it, as well as other videos? That method works for me, although if possible, it's nice to have just one video. Sorry, I'm not much help.

I wouldn't mind seeing a documentary on Olga A. or others.

I apologize, I think I just made it sound more confusing than it really is. I tried to edit my earlier post to make it sound more clear.
But yes, you're right. The process would make several files to download for one show. But unlike Assassin of the Tsar,  you cannot play the file until all pieces are downloaded. I know it sounds more inconvenient, but in the end it actually keeps the file size down. I really don't have a problem with leaving the file as one big download, my concern is that it may be inconvenient for people to download because it is so large.

I'm sorry if I made it even more confusing, I think I am having trouble articulating myself tonight. : P
Title: Re: Frozen Tears

Haha, no, Laura. I understand the splitting now. And I know what you mean about people having trouble downloading a video that is just one big file. Either way you decide to do it, I will be delighted with the new things you put up.

Minor update today.

Documentary:  Olga: The Last Grand Duchess:

Forbidden love, enduring passion, Cinderella in reverse - Olga: The Last Grand Duchess tells the tale of Olga Romanova’s journey from the palaces of St. Petersburg to her death in obscurity above a modest barbershop in Toronto, Canada. Olga was born into a life of pomp and splendor. Her story is set against the backdrop of an entire century, encompassing two world wars, a revolution, thrilling escapes and two terms of exile.  Rare footage from the Russian archives presents a record of the momentous historical events that shaped the century. The person now in charge of the archives is completely devoted to Olga and the details of her life who is their beloved “Princess who didn't want to be a princess.”

Contemporary footage, shot during production in Russia, Denmark and Canada, of the palaces and humble homes where Olga lived shows the range of lifestyles she experienced.  Olga's vibrant paintings, coupled with interviews of people who knew her, create an insiders sense of this woman's astonishing character and the lasting impression she made. The numerous newspaper headlines give the film the weight of history – and international, political, explosive history that was played out in one woman's life of courage and endurance.  - VideoServiceCorp.com[/left]

Approximately 60 Minutes - Released in 2008

Re: Name Change - Please don't change Frozen Tears. Your title is PERFECT - sad, beautiful, and evocative of so much of Russian history. I can't imagine how it could be improved!
Haha, no worries! I really appreciate your input! I was debating the name change for awhile too. It's great to get everyone's feedback. After all! This site is for you guys! :D

This is a wonderful site, Laura! Thank you for all your hard work!

Thanks so much! I admit I am very poor with updating in a regular schedule, but I am going to try and improve that!

Great site, Laura! I love it!

Have you put the interview with Sarushka on Frozen Tears yet? I could be wrong, but I didn't see it whenever I visited.

Thanks!

Oh, Laura, I LOVE YOUR SITE!! I had not known about it before joining this Forum, and it's now one of my favorites. It's so beautiful!

Not the point. I love your new additions. The only documentary I've ever seen was the Biography "Anastasia". It's funny, isn't it? It's called Anastasia, but most of it focuses on Anna Anderson.

Anyway, I'll have to see about getting some of the others. Which one was your favorite?

PS - I would have tried to win a copy of The Lost Crown, but I had already pre-ordered it from Amazon. Oh, well.

Thanks so much Olga.B! You're very kind.
I don't know if I have a favourite documentary to be honest! There are so many good ones out there. I really do favor The Last Days of the Last Tsar, the new one about the White Duchesses, and of course, for nostalgia sake, I loved the old Discovery Channel one. : D

UPDATE TIME GUYS!
- New Documentary, New Score, and NEW ARTIST INTERVIEW!
Our very own AP members, Imperial Grounds and BlessOTMA helped make this update possible! Check out the site and let me know what you think!

Stunning. Simply STUNNING!

First of all, i have to confess my affection to Annie is of a very special kind; she has the same age of my mom, but i feel her like a older sister.
Then, as i've already written somewhere, Annie's work is special to me, expecially the ones where she "catches" pieces of life. The one of Tatiana writing at her table in Tobolsk is my favourite; since i'm working on a novel about otma in exile, i looked at this painting in a special way, and it really helped me SEE that very moment. I always see my carachters moving in my head vefore i write about them, but having no artistic skills (i mean painting and drawing) the images in my mind never go out, since i can hardly hold a pencil in my hand!
It's like Annie could draw down what i saw in my mind, and to me this is simply stunning. So, now i have something to look at while writing, and this is the very best i can wish, because when my eyes are open to type on my pc, the images in my mind become blurry, and they make clearer only if i shut my eyes; of course i can't write if they are still shut, so giving a look at Annie's work is like having my mind images fixed there, in front of me, and wiriting becomes so easier...

Thanks you Laura for the documentry, also... it was stunningly beautiful!
I liked evertthing, but most of all i laughed till having tears watching what Anastasia could do in EVERY footage... Once she waves at the camera, another time she lifts her skirt (looking for something?) in front of the camera, another time again a train's coming, Alexej run straight through the railway lines (!!!), Derevenkocatches him but Nastja go to the railway linea anyway... the realizes the train&the camera and run back...
I've always imagined such things, but seeing them REALLY... i was crying for too much laugh!

Just in case you were not already aware. Frozentears.org has its own Facebook Page.  (https://www.facebook.com/Frozentears.org)

Join in on the contest! I ship books internationally for free : D
