Title: New Users say Hello Here and ONLY HERE!
Post by: Forum Admin on February 10, 2006, 04:01:58 PM
In order to keep dozens of new threads cluttering up this section, new users wanting to introduce themselves are to use this thread and THIS THREAD ONLY to do so. Any new thread started for that purpose will be removed without notice. Thanks for your cooperation and welcome!!

Hi ;

Major  Jesse Carnes here.
I am a newbie on the list.

My best experience yet, besides writing
some OTMAA poetry for the list, is getting
a copy of Prince Michaels' N&A:TFA  from Germany
recently for a mere $13.

Thanx for this compelling discuss.-list !

Hello!

I would qualify as a 'new' member! :)

I am enjoying myself very much on here.  I am learning so much, and it's great to finally discuss the Romanovs without being considered a weirdo. I have lovely friends.  ;)

Anyway, my name is Rachel, I'm enjoying my last couple of months of being a teenager before I turn the dreaded 2-0, and I am studying for a degree in English Literature.  I wish my degree was in the Romanovs, though, because then I'd be able to justify the amount of time I spend on here...

The people on this board are so lovely and helpful, so thanks for making me feel welcome already. :)

Hi everyone!

Woo-hoo, my first post...I am so happy to find such a thriving and welcoming community here.  I'm already in awe of how much everyone here knows!

Just a bit about me...I'm a full-time editor with dreams of finishing a novel someday.  (Yeah, that's what they all say, huh?)   I've been a Romanov nut since I was in middle school, after reading Peter Kurth's Anastasia:  The Riddle of Anna Anderson.  I like to frustrate future boyfriends by telling them I already have the kids' names picked out...Nicholas and Alexandra, of course!  No takers yet. ;)

I look forward to learning and sharing with you all!

Jenni :)

Margarita--oh you bet!  If things start to go south, it's fun to play the "So I'm kinda obsessed with the Romanovs...that's not going to be problem, is it?" card.  Easy way to banish bad blind dates!

Hi,

My name is Emma and I'm from Australia. I'm currently trying to learn Russian but I've only just started so I can't say anything yet.  ;)
I just want to say thanks to everyone who posts, it's so great to hear everyone's opinon! This site is so good, I've learnt so much from here and it's inspired me to learn even more.
I'm currently writing a book on OTMA for school. I hope to visit Russia some day soon too. It sounds utterly facinating.

Thanks again,
Emma

Hello!
Let me say to all of you " HELLO" in this great Forum!
I`m La Rainha and I gave me this nickname, because I`m a great fan of the portugese queen Maria Pia di Savoia! Sometimes, I feel, that the person, we are talking about, are like my relation!
I`m collecting old photos and postcards from Royalties, but only till 1940! Later, it is not so interest for me!

In my room, I have an icon from the holy martyrer family!
In this family, my favorite is Maria Nikolaijewna!
My other favorite Royalties are:
Marie of Romania
Queen Elisabeth of Beligum
Queen Louise Mountbatten of Sweden
Queen Astrid
and of course
the portugese  queens Maria Pia and Maria Amelia!

My biggest wish in life: getting married with a russian Granduke.....! ;D ;) ;) ;) ;)

Hello everyone.
I would like to present myself.
My name is Adam, I am 34 yrs, born Norvegian. The last 5 years I have lived in Florence Italy, And before mooving here I lived 10 years in Copenhagen, Denmark.
It was in that period that I really started to enjoy my historical interest. I foud, and bought the memories of Roman Petrovitsj Romanoff, and I am very interessted in the Nikolajvitsj branch of the family, but also the rest. Ex. The Wonderful Dowager Emperess, and her husband. I love facts, and the truth. I am not interessted in hypothesies and ifs....I am interessted of knowing and learning about the positive and negative sides of every person, happening and  case in the Russian history, just to make up my own opinion about why it went so wrong. But I'm also enjoying all the funny and amusing stories, and all the creativity and artistic aspects.
I hope to travel to Russia and see myself, the big famous cities, the countryside, and I should like to visit Ukraina, Kiev and Crimea, i am so courios to see Djulber, Livadia, kharaks etc..

By the way, I work as a decorator in an agecy that organices events. :)
best regards Adam.

I qualify as new too - have posted a bit in the Windsor, Hesse and Hohenzollern since Jan. Have been away for 3 weeks or so but back now.

Born in London, I now live in Cornwall, SW England, with the old man * and Lapfungus cat. I've lived in the USA (NYC and Fla), Helsinki (2 semesters at the Uni) and Israel on and off.

* According to whom I seem such an unlikely fan of royal history etc. I suppose looking like aging punk/ biker, other interests, music etc etc it is a bit incongruous and everyone I mention it too is always so surprised.  Oh well.

I have little interest in the current royal scene but it all began with the Romanovs in my teens with a school visit to the then USSR. It went from there to most European royalty, roughly between Napoleon and WW2. Now i'm catching up on the gaps in British history left by my education which went into some depth on 1066 and the late Tudors, for example, and nothing at all in between!

Looking forward to reading lots of good stuff from all  :)

Hi AP members. I am new today, found this wonderful community quite by accident and have a feeling I shall be here often!
To introduce myself briefly, my name is Janice, I am 55, English, living in beautiful green countryside in the UK 50% of the time and in hot and dusty old Cairo 50% where my long time fiance is working for a year or so. So it's quite a contrast!
As I am typing I look from my desk from 14th floor over the Nile. You can imagine it is very inspiring, with reed beds on the opposite bank, faluka's sailing by, locals washing pots and laundry in the river...yes, really! which is just as well because I am writing a novel, part of which comprises diaries written 1901 - 1940 and include fleeing from St Petersburg during the revolution.a fascinating part of history and I am so involved in the whole mystique that  I must travel to St Petersburg as soon as I can.

The history here is also amazing, I can see the giant pyramids at Giza from my desk, and the steppe and red pyramids at Saqqara as well.
so, my aim in joining this forum is to learn more about the fascinating, turbulent history of pre and post revolutionary Russia. My book is taking far too long to write because I am so distracted in my research! I have read dozens of books on the subject as I must be factually correct although my characters in the book are ficticious.
But I cannot find much information on people's flight from Russia, 1917 - 1920 or thereabouts. The routes, the mode of transport, I suppose much was on foot, horse and cart and by train if you had the money. Does anyone know of any books which cover this in detail please? Olgs'a Story is wonderful, how sad too, but she travelled in the wrong direction, my people are off to Nice!

I look forward to 'meeting' some of you, cheers.
Janice

I love to travel! I have been to Ireland, Boston, Miami, Dominican Rep., Bahamas, US & British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, LA, Chicago, Memphis, (last three I just changed flights in, but still!!!) Auckand, NZ, Sydney and Melbourne, OZ, Scotland and I think that's it! I'm going to England this may! WOO!
I'm at uni studying History and Political Science as well as Anthropology
I have a diploma in Education

worked in a school
and I work on cruise ships when I don't have class

Hello to all. This is my first post to the site, though I've visisted often in the last few days to read. I've learned quite a bit already, and look forward to chatting with fellow royalty enthusiasts, and especially with historians/authors. I found this site by accident, and am happy to have done so.

I've been interested in royalty for a very long time now, especially British royalty. I read Massie's "Nicholas and Alexandra" a long time ago, and still have my original copy; since then, I've been interested in the Russian IF.

I live in south Georgia in the USA, and have not traveled, though I'd love to. Hello to all and here's looking forward to interesting and informative chats with all.  :)

good afternoon from snowcovered Germany.
May I introduce myself?

I am Nardo, 56 years old, male and I live right in the middle of Germany in an area which is famous for the Brothers Grimm.
My profession is mayor of a provincial town for almost 18 years now.
My area is twinned with the Jaroslawl region and I have met a lot of interesting people from there.
One of my hobbies is getting to know the Russian history.

I do have to mention that I own genuine historical photographs of the Romanow family. They presumably show Tsar AlexanderI II and his wife Marie as well as the late Tsar Nicholas II , his wife Alexandra  as well as their lovely children. I wonder if they are of any interest to museums or private collectors.

Thank you all for adding me as a newbie to the palace.

Yours sincerely

Nardo :D

Hi! I am so excited about being a member of this Forum - because all of you guys are so kind and sweet! I'll just talk about myself: I first became interested in the Romanovs when I watched the cartoon 'Anastasia'. So I've been a fan for a long time. My favourite IF member would have to be GD Olishka because she was so beautiful and kind! I also like Mashka because she is so sweet - but Anastasia is very special to me, too. My absolute FAVOURITE is the love story of Nicholas and Alexandra - a gorgeous couple! I like music by t.a.t.u. So YEH!!! I'm very happy!

Hello everyone!  My name is DeAnna, but I go by Dasha and I just wanted to say hi.  I been bouncing around on here as a guest now for the past few years and I’ve finally joined.

I live in the States, I grew-up in Chicago and I now live in Phoenix, or as some people call it, the eternal microwave.  I have Russian Ancestry, and I love my heritage which is probably why I love this site so much.  So I just wanted to say Hi, and I look forward to talking to all of you.    ;D

:) Thankyou for the warm welcome. I've been coming back to the APTM site for about three years now and I've been a guest on this discussion forum almost nearly as long as well. The knowledge and resources of some of the members in this forum is phenominal which is why I hesitated on joining for so long. I've seen a few movies, seen numerous pictures, and read various books, and done extensive research and still feel that I'm not competent enough to be a member of this forum. I recently decided to go ahead and join because it seems that the people here are so nice and VERY helpful. I hope every new members experience here will be as rewarding as mine.

This has to be in my opinion the "official" site for serious researchers and anyone looking for reliable info on Imperial Russia. It just keeps getting better. Altough, to be fair and honest; there are a lot of other marvelous and resourceful sites as well.

Thanks again.

Hello,

My name is Barbara and I live near a small town in the MidWest, USA.  I came across this site quite by accident a couple months ago and find myself checking it daily.  I have long been interested/studying/collecting re the Romanovs - generally when I try to discuss Russian/Romanov history with anyone, I get a glazed look staring back at me as if I were from another planet.  This forum really touches my soul and allows me to grow and learn.  Even though I mostly read on here - have only made one comment and asked one question, I feel as though I have come to depend on you all.  There is, however, one thing that is a little difficult for me, in that, since I am new, am not always sure what all the abbreviations made mean.

Welcome to all our newbies.  :D It's great to see a good number popping up and feeling comfortable enough to post--and in many cases--engage people in some lively debates.

Barbara--just feel free to ask whenever there's an acronym or nickname you don't recognize. We tend to get kind of comfortable in just calling people by more casual names (ie Moretta for Princess Victoria of Prussia or QV for Queen Victoria) and forget that there are new people joining all the time.

I had not seen those particular pictures before. Thank you for sharing them with us. They are lovely, and all the more, as both remained true of their hard fight with and for those with multiple disabilities.[Helen Keller above all else for her time achieving more than any other woman of her time, in fighting adversities, yet who went on to be a world reknown speaker, teacher, champion for and of impossible disabling issues. A short note to say that I've enjoyed this website for several years.  I am amazed at the numbers of people who share my passion for delving into Russian and Romanov history.  The fascination and curiosity began during early childhood, like many of you!  Am thinking of a trip to Russia in the near future, but first must learn some of the language!

I'm just reposting this for Dbc1951.  :)

I've been lurking here on and off for a bit.  My ex is Russian and I've always had an interest in Russian history---I finally did have a chance to visit in 1999 and enjoyed myself tremendously. It was rather interesting to visit Lenin's home town, Ulyanovsk, and see his family home.  My tour guide was somewhat unsympathetic to the Tsar but became extrememly emotional when talking about the children. It is easy to see why.

In any case, I've been playing around with Windows Movie Maker and have enjoyed it.  After finding a sound file of God Save The Tsar I thought I'd try my hand at setting it to some pictures.  I'm rather new but what I wanted to do was to convey some sense of Imperial Russia and also be respectful to the Royal family.

Opinions are welcome......but not brickbats  ;D

I think it turned out well and I hope you like it.  I'm certainly open to editing it because I already have with one of my "productions".

My apologies for not seeing this particular thread before.  As my Norwegian relatives would say...."uff da".

As I said......input on my youtube effort is appreciated.  I have others I'm working on now, but I found a sound file that would be a perfect match for the royal children.......but I think the Empress would need to be in there as well.  If anyone has pic suggestions...let me know.

For the moment, I'm trying to do one with FDR's "Day of Infamy" speech.  Let's just say that getting the RIGHT pics can be daunting.

Youtube also has some very nice efforts by others on the Romanovs....give it a look sometime.  Some are very well done.

I have already made a few posts, and have been astounded at the quality of the responses! This is an amazing resource on Imperial Russia and I am so glad that I found it. I am a UK based freelance military history writer with a long term interest in the Russian army in particular. Research into the Boxer Rebellion brought me here, but I shall be staying and exploring [and exploiting, in the best sense] this amazing place way past the completion of that particular task.

If you want, I've put up the first chapter of my story in the Fiction part of the Having Fun section. Feel free to read it!

Thank you for your kind greeting! Many Woofs to you!

Hello everybody,
I'm from India. It may seem surprising to most of you to know that someone in India is interested in the Romanovs but let me assure you that I'm not the only Indian who is fascinated by the Romanovs. It's a pity, though, that there isn't any undisputed claimant to the Romanov heritage.

Hi there my name is Suren (its an Armenian name) I've been interested in Russian history quite a bit recently, since it ties into Armenian history too. I feel a connection with Alexei and he quickly became my favorite Romanov as I did more research. I really sympathise with the Romanov family because my grandfather became a victim of the Soviet regime as well when he was sent to the gulag camps during Stalin's rule. I would have loved to see what Russia would have been like had Alexei been Tzar.

It is nice to meet you. Not many people really know about them in America either. its sad when all they know about it comes from a really bad Don Bluth movie!

I'll have to confess that is probably where I first heard about the Romanov's but it has nothing to do with why I'm interested in them.

     Hi you all,

I'"m  a (not completely) new user of the Forum and AP; a few posts and many, many hours of viewing and reading. In fact,I only "found" the Forum after relatively exhausting the AP site itself.

I've come to realise there's as much Romanov knowledge and resources here as on the main site (in some areas) ; especially photos .Where do you guys keep finding these oldies but goodies?

Again, I'm glad I found you.

   Rodney

Hello to all.  This is my first post ever!  I have been a member about 6 months or so and have read almost every post and spend way too much time following up on many links, looking at the fascinating pictures, and daydreaming about the imperial past!  Throughout this fantastic journey I feel like I have gotten to know so many of these tragic and enchanting historical people all because of you clever and dedicated members of this wonderful forum!
About me:  I am a nurse and live in Tennessee in the USA and was drawn into the whole Romanov thing by a charming little children's book on hemophilia.  It was written by Laureen A Kelley and here's the link.  Poor little Alexei.  He could have been great.
Please note to Forum admin. if this is improper to link to my feelings will not be hurt if it is necessary to remove the post.  I'm new to posting.  Sara

Hello! I'm Sasha. Heck, I'm probably the only Wisconsinite that knows about the Romanovs. ::) The rest of us are too busy mooning over football and card games. Ha! Can't wait to see you around the forum!
Hello to s66405h. I've never heard of the book- I will definately check it out!
Hello skirt. Hooray for reading!
hello, hello, hello to all of our new members! It's wonderful to get to know some new ''faces''! ;)

Hello,

I am a 20 year old boy from Germany, and I would like to talk with other persons who are interested in Royalty and history, esp. Russian one.

My main interests are history, art, music, literature, classic cars etc.

My favourite dynasty is the Romanov one, and my most liked Tsars are Nicholas II and Nicholas I, and of course the Tsesarevich Alexei (Alexei II).

I took the German version of "Tsesarevich" as a nickname.

Greetings to all users here! ;)

How do you do all!  I am brand spanking new to posting and to the APF, I came across your site by accident, but now that I have been here and looked around, sorry, it looks like now you will be stuck with me for quite a long time.  I am a replanted swede, my family emmigrated to the USA from Sweden in about 1874 and there promptly seemed to get lost, well I was found and am now replanted back in Sweden and loving it.  I cannot imagine my life anywhere else, I have discovered family here and its wonderful.  Anyway, getting back to the ATP, I am so surprised that people say they became interested because of the Don Bluth Film(which was wonderful, believe me I've seen it at least a hundred times), does anyone remember the Yul Brenner, Ingrid Bergman movie, call me a romantic but I fell in love with the romanticized version of Russian aristocracy from that movie and haven't been disappointed yet.  My own family has a few of its members from russia, St. Petersburg.  The Swedish genealogical society was offering a trip to St Petersburg in the spring, but as want to see more than the swedish area of St Peterburg, I guess I will have to find a way over myself to see whats what.  I find the Russian culture so fascinating and so rich in tradition.  I hope to learn alot from all of you who post here and hopefully I will make worthy contributions as well.

:) Tdora was here for a while Jan-May 2006 and then all sorts of stuff happened (broken computers and got married and moved town - the usual little things that conspire to deflect one's attention) and when she finally got around to taking a look here again, things had changed somewhat!

Can't seem to use my name Tdora as was  ::)  so I've slunk back as Tdora1 and looking foward to catching up. Particularly on Windsors, Hesse, Hohenzollern and with GDE, Royal netherlands, Herr Kaiser and all whose posts and discussions I so enjoyed and missed - good to see you again.

Oh, and my beloved Vauxhall Irene had a major operation in July (new clutch) but has fully recovered!

Post by: Kurt Steiner on February 03, 2007, 04:09:12 PM
Well, here I am. Dunno what to say, so, I'll be not quite original...

I came across this excellent forum just by sheer luck -as it uses to happen with me and internet ;D- and I'm still greateful because I've been accepted.

Well, what can tell about myself... I'm from Barcelona, Spain. I'm an old boy -33 yo, 34 next March-, and I have always been attracted by history since I was a little child. My interest about the Romanov cames from a very twisted road, so to speak. Summarising, I would say that it began when I was a child and saw "Anastasia" with those wonderful actores, Ingrid Bergmann and Yul Brinner- and, of course, I fell in love with Anastasia/Bergmann. This may be the beginning, but it's not really so simple.

I've been interested in history, as I've told you before, but I cannot tell you exactly which period is my favourite. I love 20th century history -up to 1945, more or less-, for instance, but also the Middle Ages, the XVI/XVII and the XIX Centuries, well, it's a mixture of all this. Thus, let me go straight to the point. As a child I was very interested about World War Two -as you may have imagined by now, I'm a strange bird ;D but who cares... not me ;)-. Then I began to discover some pieces of the history of my family, and got attracted too by the Spanish Civil War -it happens, at least if your family is fighthing in both sides one against the other- but my attraction about WW2 never died. And one day, I thought "How came WW2?" And I began to study World War 1. And, of course, the Romanov history came to me, and I "recovered" my old "love", so to speak -Yes, Anastasia is of special interest for me, along with the Tsar and the Tsarevich-. The attraction about the Imperial Russia is one of my "weak" points, I must confess.

Such was my interest about World War One, I should add, that when I started my PhD, I devoted myself to the Literature of the WW1 -oh, BTW, I've studied English Philology, I forgot to say it, methinks-, but never I allowed myself to forget the Romanovs. And, oddily enough, in a peak point of my a reborn interest about the Imperial Family, I found this forum.

Coincidence? I don't think so, but who knows.

Finally, some words about my nickname. One of my favourite actors is Michael Caine, who played the role of Kurt Steiner in "The Eagle has Landed". So, there you have it. I should add that I'm very interested in almost evertyhing about Germany and its history and literature because one of my great grandparents was German -from München, actually-, but I guess that adding anything else about him would make this post toooooooooo long.

So, to finish, here I am, in case you may need me. I hope that I will be able to help to rise the level of this forum even if it's just a bit, but don't doubt that I'll do my best. For me it's an honour to have been accepted and I won't betray those who have trusted me.

Best wishes to all

PD: I tend to write too much, as you may have guessed, and I never know where to stop... ;D
Title: A special hello to those of you interested in the Lieven family
Post by: Pierre NICOLAS on February 08, 2007, 09:26:53 AM
I have done some research about the history of the Lieven family to whom I am related (I married a Princess Lieven and we had 2 children).
She died. With my father-in-law, I explored the family papers in order to create a data base about his family, having in mind the next generations.
Of course, I have family trees, portraits, photos of the post revolution generations, and a few books.
I am preparing a internet site dedicated to the Lieven.
Alas for the English speaking community, the papers will be in French.
Of course I am ready to share which is the meaning of Internet forums.
Just to give examples of some of my (specialised) interests...
Regards to all of you...

I'm Tessa De Vocht, I'm 17 years old and I'm from Kontich in Belgium.
For some weird reason I'm passioned by Russia, though I haven't been there I'll be studying for translator-interpretor Russian-German next year. I'm here to get to know some more about Russian history and maybe find out why Russia has this weird attraction on me.
My hobbies are archery, making jewellery with beads and babysitting.

If there's anything else you want to know I'll hear it I guess...

Hi. My name’s Mario and I’m from the region Piemonte, Italy. I spend a lot of my working time dealing with cultural events in the Royal Residences in Piedmont, especially in Racconigi and Venaria Reale. I am happy to be joining this site and the forums because, due to my job, I think I’ve got quite a lot of photos and paintings dealing with the Italian royal family, the Savoy Carignano family (Prinz Eugen “der edle Ritter”, Marie Therese, princess of Lamballe, the delightful Josephine de Lorraine Carignano, King Umberto II and Maria Josè, …), the Royal Residences in Piedmont and the great events of the past. In 2009, the 100th anniversary of the state visit of Nicholas II in Racconigi will be celebrated with o lot of cultural events and I hope to be able to keep you in touch with the preparatory works (by the way: we have of a lot of “curious” photographs of that visit!). Thank you for accepting me and don’t be too “angry” for my English. Ciao.

Please help. If I am not posting correctly.  My name is N. Zavodoff, I am so excited to find this website.  I am a misplaced descendant of white Russians. I have very little info on my family; can someone PLEASE help.  Is there anyone out there that knows info on the Zavodoff, Bagration, or Manto families.  My father and grandmother were seperated from my grandfather, Count Vladimir or Volodia de Zavodoff, at the start of WWII. Hello,

I ve already posted something here, before I noticed that it may be good to introduce myself here in this section. ;)

I m working as a professor for Russian and German History at the University of Hanover in Lower-Saxony. Next to it I m often posted to Universities at UK, Spain, USA, Russia... for some months. My last job was a research on the Hesse family members at UK with professors of the University of Cambridge.
When I was 12 years old I read a book about the tsars family and I wanted to know more about their fate. When I got older I started to collect postcards and other things about them and the Hohenzollern.
I m always busy, my job, my son, my husband and a part time job for a publishers company for History books...but in my freetime I like to talk about the Romanovs. So after waiting for a while, I thought it can t be a mistake to become a member of this awesome forum. ;D

Hello everybody,

This is not an introduction post, but an "I'm back!" post. I have not posted for more than a year due to a bout of colon cancer. I had surgery to remove a section of my colon and I slipped into a coma that I did not awaken from until 1 May of this year. I have had to relearn all my basic skills and recover my ability to read and remember. I am happy to report that I am well on the road to recovery and am once again able to read and post on this wonderful site. I have missed you all and will be back online more often now and will be sure to keep current even if I don't make a lot of posts right away.

Hello everyone!  I'm a "newbie" to the board, and except for this post, so far I've just been reading messages and getting the lay of the land, so to speak.  I have several historical interests, including the Romanovs.  I love having a place where I can get different perspectives from people who share my interest.  I've been informally studying the Romanovs for about 10 years now and have also formally studied Russian and history in college.  I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Privet maya seemya!

I have been a Romanov student and fan for probably about 37 years.  It started off by accident when I ran into Robert Massie's book "Nicholas and Alexandra" which coincidentally I was only 14 when I first read it.  (Alexei's age by the way).  After Penny and Greg's wonderful book and the recent discoveries in Yekaterinburg and many years of disillusion in between; it is good and sad to finally realize there may be closure to the case.  Hope to speak to all of you.  Vash Misha

I am new to this forum but would like to find the person who posted a photo of a portrait of the American-born Lilie Bouton, Countess von Nostitz.  Can you tell me the source of the photo - where the portrait is located? I have other photos of her I would be glad to share as I am including her in my new book.

For information, my most recent book, Crowning Glory: American Wives of Princes and Dukes, includes bios and photos of several American wives such as Audrey Emery (to Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovitch), Florence Crane (to Prince Serge S. Belosselsky-Belozersky), her mother-in-law, Susan Whittier, etc. see www.americanprincesses.com

Many thanks,
Rick

What a lovely site! I've been visiting the APTM for years but only recently discovered the forum.

I'm Russian through my father, German through my mother; born and raised in Minnesota; currently living in the Denver area; happily married to a military man and raising two sons and two dogs. I have an M.S. in Criminal Justice from Auburn University, with a little ambition I may even use it someday....

My interests include the Romanov, Tudor and Windsor families; the Caucasus region (my heart belongs to the people of Beslan and Armenia); Nazi Germany; what it means to be Christian in the 21st century and...on a lighter note...books of all kinds and dogs of all kinds!

I look forward to learning from everyone!

Jenn

So. I've just realiser that i've never presente myself. :) So, I'll start with the .. basics ?

I'm born in Canada and living in the province of Quebec, in a little town. So, my first language is French & I beg your pardon for my bad spelling & writing :)

Like the major part of the "youngest" members, I'll just learned about the Romanovs with the movie Anastasia by Fox. And one day, I've juste decided to learn more about the real stroy, and since that day, I'm just addicted.

The major part of my friends thinks that i'm obsessed.. or.. maybe a bit strange to be so interested to a "family who was killed". So I'm really happy to be in this forum because I just feel that some people can understand what I feel. I'd like to thank all the members, because I learned a much when I was reading the topis, so Thank You all. :)

Hi everyone!

*looks around* Well look at this fancy place! I'm shocked that I didn't discover this board years ago!

Quick introduction. My name is Leah, I'll be 18 in a little over a month, I live just outside of Toronto (that's in Canada). Like many others, the Romanov story was brought to my attention when I was quite young... I do believe I was reading about the new Fox film to be released that speculated on the possible survival of Grand Duchess Anastasia. Needless to say, I was hooked by the possibility, and scrambled to the library before sitting down to watch the film (which was a huge disappointment for me!!!) So far most of my learning has been through reading and researching on my own time... I've read a fair few of Edvard Radzinksy's books, which I quite like... not to mention two stellar biographies of Alexandra Feodorovna... pity, I forget the author and the name since it was so long ago! I've been a bit of a history buff since age 9 and I've been through my phases... after the Romanovs I went in the direction of Classical Greece and the Roman Republic and haven't turned back, so I'm probably a little rusty on my Romanov facts ;) However I plan to double major in History and Classical Studies when I move on to university next year and I am taking two courses in my third year that cover Imperial Russia. Should be a treat!

I look forward to reading all the posts here. What a heaven! Once I'm done reading this board, everything will have come back to me!

Hi everyone!

I've been reading your forum for sometime, and found it wonderful. I love the fact that I can find both historical information, and trivia as well. I am greatly interested in history, and the Russian history has always fascinated me.

Personally I am very happy not to live in a monarchy, and I am not impressed by empires and nobility. But I do like the Romanovs, and I want to learn everything I can on pre-revolutionary Russia. Maybe it's because I've always felt that the Russian culture is not at all what I could see growing up (cold war etc). Maybe because the belle epoque (and it's style) is my favorite era. Maybe because I am trying to learn the Russian language, so poetic and beautifully complex.

Who cares about reasons! I am just happy to be here!  :)

Greetings to all.

I have spent hours on this website and have recently registered as a member.  I would like to thank you for the delight and erudition you have brought into my life.   My first introduction to the Romanovs was as a little girl reading Life Magazine.  If memory serves me, some time during the early "60's there was a picture of Anna Anderson at her compound in Germany with a caption explaining that she claimed to be the daughter of the last Tsar, etc.  That caption peaked an interest of almost 50 years.  For me, the vast march of history becomes more understandable in its personalities and their stories rather than a more analytic approach of events. How grateful I am to have found you all.  Lesley

I'm fairly new... I'm a writer and law student in California who came across this site in an unusual way.  During one of my few free periods, I was researching the Victorian Era for a novel I'm (sloooowly) working on, and I came across the photos of Victoria's World website.  I finally got a good look at her and all of her children and grandchildren.  I noticed that a couple of Victoria's children had died young and wondered about the cause.  So I looked up Alice's biography on Wikipedia and was not only awed by Alice herself, but discovered "Oh, she was her mother??"  From there, I had to learn more... about everything.  I found this site and have been absorbed ever since.  It's a wonderful resource that I could get absolutely lost in and forget all of my studies if I'm not careful...

I can identify w/ that. :)

First found the site by circumstance, like wildone mentioned one thing led to another.  A relative of my wife's, from Scotland, married a Russian and they both disappeared in the Revolution, never to be heard from again.  That search led me here and then to reading all kinds of threads that interested me for a long time, finally registered.

Now I try to keep up by reading through all the most recent posts every day, much to my wife's consternation. :)  Hope you enjoy participating here now as much as I do.

Hello everyone,

Thought I would say hello! I have been coming to the Alexander Palace web site for a few years but never entered the forum until a couple of week ago. What a wealth of information there is here and I am at a loss to say how impressed I am. I got into the Russian Imperial family as a young boy through history at school and the film Nicholas and Alexandra and after that I was hooked. I have read quite a few books but not as many as I thought as I see from here. I was so happy, if that is word, when the family were found and laid to rest and felt things were coming full circle at last.

Hi, I'm mark from england. I first saw the Nicholas and Alexandra movie way back in 1978 when i was about 15 and was sucked into the the whole story. Way back then it was all still a huge mystery. No-one really knew for sure what had happened to them. It's amazing how the world has changed since. Russia is no longer the "enemy" and all but two of the Romanovs have been found and reburied in the SS Peter & Paul. Now we know nearly all but the fascination is as strong as ever. Wonderful site!!!

Hello to all,

I am Dandy, 17 years old, live in Belgium and like to write(i am working on a novel, started writing a story for school and they said i should make it into a novel so i intend doing that), to read and to edit video's. But no more about me, i am here because of my interest in the Romanovs and i can say i've been into them since the moment i saw Anastasia, the animated movie. When i turned 12 i started to read about Anna Anderson and the Romanovs and i found it a haunting tale of history, and i still think it is cruel how one of the greatest monarchys came to an end. I have been reading Peter Kurth's The Lost World of Nicholas and Alexandra and intend to read Nicholas and Alexandra from Robert K. Massie, i also intend on reading the Last Tsar and have also been reading the Kitchenboy, from Robert Alexander. I really hope they translate his other 2 books on Imperial Russia. I've seen Rasputin, Nicholas and Alexandra, Agonya, Assassin of the Tsar, Romanovy: Ventsenosnaya semya and The Successor(sadly enaugh it doenst show much of the IF). I've seen Anastasia, the Mystery of Anna, Anastasia(with Ingrid Bergman) and Anastasia the animated movie, as i said before on Anna Anderson.

Besides the Imperial Family i have a high intrest in several historical events and people, including the French and Russian Revolution. I also like the next Royals, Princess Diana(i admire her for all the good work she did, and i still feel sad over her death to be honest), Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Queen Marie Antoinette of France, Queen Astrid of Belgium and Princess Gracia of Monaco.

I guess thats alll there is to know,

Happy to be here

I suppose this is my "official" intro to the AP board. My name is Steve and have been engrossed in researching the OTMA saga for over a year now. Also have amassed quite a collection of VHS and DVD video on the subject, and hope to learn about various other video material available out there! :)

Quickly went to my video collection to see what was there. I'm sure your collection is far greater than mine, but in addition to those fantastic documentaries and films downloaded from the Frozentears. org site the other day, I've got:

National Geographic "Russia's Last Tsar" - VHS
NOVA - Anastasia: Dead or Alive? - VHS
Nicholas and Alexandra - A & E Documentary - DVD
Nicholas and Alexandra - 1971 feature film - DVD
Biography - Rasputin: The Mad Monk - DVD
Biography - Anastasia: Her True Story - DVD
The History Channel - Russia: Land of the Tsars - DVD

I'm sure most of you are familiar with these above, but I'm always interested in hearing about other media available out there for purchase on the subject of OTMA, Nicholas and Alexandra.

Thanks!

I'm sure most of you are familiar with these above, but I'm always interested in hearing about other media available out there for purchase on the subject of OTMA, Nicholas and Alexandra.

Thanks!

Thank you, that's a good collection.  Good thing you have them in DVD and not in VHS as I did.  Be sure to get the latest one "Finding Anastasia."  Thanks again.

"Finding Anastasia"? I haven't heard about that one. A quick search turned up it apparently was a National Geographic TV program; since I don't watch television at all, may have missed hearing about it. Do you know if the program is currently available on DVD and where? If so, I'll buy the video today!

I believe that it's pretty new so probably won't be available on DVD yet, but I am pretty sure someone on this forum will end up recording it. It will be on the NGC several times in August.

I just joined today.  I am looking forward to spending a lot of time on this board!  I have been interested in the Romanovs for the last 20 years (at least).  I love reading books about royalty anway, but the Romanovs are my favorite.  I also love reading books about Russian history and culture.  Grand Duchess Elizabeth is probably my favorite.  I keep an icon of her in my prayer corner (I'm Orthodox), and several women in my parish who have been received into the church the last couple of years have chosen her as their patron saint.  I also like Anastasia and Tsar Nicholas II.

I have quite a collection of books on the Romanovs and quite a few on Russian history and culture.

I live in Billings, Montana, and moved to Montana in 1991 from South Carolina.  I miss the ocean (and Southern cooking and the Southern accents), but Montana has incredible scenery and is very beautiful in its own way.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you, and learning even more about the Romanovs!  I enjoyed reading the article on St. Tikhon, who was the Patriarch of the Russian Church in 1917 and had spent several years in the States before going back to Russia.

Hello!

I have been lurking around here for a while and have enjoyed all your messages and especially the pictures so much I finally decided to join in.

I have been interested in Russian culture and history since I took Russian as an extra language at high school over 20 years ago. Unfortunately I didn't have a great success with the language, but luckily the interest in the culture and history persisted. I'm Finnish, and as you all know, Finland and Russia have a long history to share. But it was my mother who then got me interested in the Romanov family. She has been a keen diy historian of the Romanovs for the past 20 years and has a huge collection of books, dvd's, postcards, pictures and all things related. She even has some glass negatives of the family photographs. We probably speak more about the Romanovs than about our own relatives! So far we have been in St. Petersburg twice, and have visited all the important places, including the Alexander Palace - and the most memorable of all, the basement shrine at the Feodorovsky Cathedral. There was a restoration work going on, but seeing the shrine was one of the most powerful emotional experiences in my life.

I hope I will have some contribution to make to the forum, maybe a picture you haven't seen already - if that's possible - or something. First I have to spend some more time investigating all the picture links in order to find out the pictures that you already are familiar with, and read some more messages in order not to ask anything silly.

Looking forward to exciting and interesting time in the forum among you kindred spirits!

I have been interested in the Russian Royal Family for years. My parents lived in Rota, Spain in the late 50's and early sixties. My godmother, Princess Alexandra of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, "Dolly" and a friend of my parents  the Infanta Beatrice were both descendants of Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna of Russia. I never  knew  either of them because they both died when I was very young. I have often wondered what impact of the execution of Czar Nicholas' family had on my godmother's family. My parents are both dead but I have been able to verify all the stories the Royals told  to them.

Hello

My name is Ralf De Jonge and as a child I collect all kind of stuff about Queen Elisabeth of Belgium and her Bayern sisters.

I am also the auther of the dutch books: "Koningin Elisabeth, zwierige vorstin in woelige tijden" en "Koningin Fabiola, vrome vorstin in een vluchtige wereld".

Looking for photo's off her elder sister Sophie at older age, also Elisabeth at older age.  Can anyone help me?

I have a lot of photo's, but I do not know how to post them here in the forum... can anyone say how to do that?

Thanks

Ralf De Jonge

Leonor, that is very interesting and I hope you will be able to share your stories with us on our boards!

Ralf, I would suggest uploading them to a photo account such as photobucket or, my personal favorite, imageshack. You'll find the photos of the people you are looking for somewhere here on the boards; try the BeLeNux(???) threads. :D

Hello,

I'm Ella. I'm a third year university student studying museum and gallery studies.  I have been interested in the Romanovs since I was a child, in part thanks to my mother, who studied at Moscow State University in the 1970s and taught Russian language and culture at a university in the UK for a few years.  Ethnically, I've no Russian blood in me as far as I know but I still enjoy studying the language, culture and history regardless.  I'm bilingual in English and French and continue to study Russian when I find time.

I often go by the name "schatzi", which means "treasure" in German (my parents are both half-German).

I look forward to many animated discussions here!

Best,

ella_schatzi

Please excuse the length of this my first post and excuse some of my poor spelling. I just registered and I feel a bit awkward because of what brought me here, concerned about how others here might feel about me and about what brought me here. Two things really brought me here.

For many years I have had an infatuation, even romantically infatuated with Grand Duchess Tatiana. I know it's silly and makes no sense. Why over the years would I be infatuated with a Russian Grand Duchess who died now just over 90 years ago? Was it how she and her family died? Was it the mystique surrounding Russia's last Imperial Family? Or was it something else something more? It just does not make sense. Also, why Tatiana? Why not one of the other Grand Duchesses? True Tatiana had grown into a very beautiful and even alluring young woman. But what is it about this person Tatiana Nickolaevna Romanov that for years I have felt this infatuation with her? But I do come back to the questions of "Why?".

My interest in Russian history and in particular the last of The Tsars came about because of two dreams I had very early in the year 1980. One night in January or February 1980 I had a dream in which I saw Ronald Reagan and Brittain's Prince Charles walking up Capital Hill in Washington, DC together. I knew from that dream that Ronald Reagan would be elected President of the United States in 1980, and that one day Great Brittain, The UK, would rebuild something of her empire. I knew we would one day see the rebirth and rebuilding of a large and powerful Brittish Empire.

About that same time in 1980 I had another dream in which I saw the fall of The Soviet Union and with it the fall of Communism. Out of the ashes of The Soviet Union and Communism in Russia, I saw the restoration of the Russian Monarchy and a Romanov Tsar seated on The Imperial Russian Throne. As the dream ended I heard a voice. It spoke Russian. Even though I don't know a word of Russian I understood every word it said perfectly. Translated into English it said, "Mark well these words, for before this century is out there shall again be a Romanov Tsar seated upon the Imperial Russian Throne."

I thought "this century" meant the 20th Century and I expected it around 1999. But the oher evening I was reading a new book I receintly got on The Romanovs published this past Fall 2008. It looks at The Romanovs from 1613 to the early 21st Century. It said that in a little over four years (2013) we would mark the 400th annaversary of the rise of The Romanov Dynasty to The Russian Throne. I realized "this century" meant the third century since the Romanovs came to the    throne. Ever since that dream in 1980 I have said that the time would come when The Soviet Union and Communism was swept away and that we would see the restoration of The Russian Monarchy.

So these are the two things that brought me to this forum. Naturally I have questions about both these things. But this is what brought me here and I wanted to share them both, perhaps hoping in return I would also get some answers.

Welcome to the forum Multiverse, quite interesting - the dream of yours. One would hope it to be true, and that the Russian Monarchy could be restored one day, if only because Russia needs some stability after the past 90 years. Really intriguing I must say, I hope you'll find some answers.

Hi my name is Nevey I come from Florida (U.S.A).  I've been intrigued by the Romanovs since I was a teen and sadly enough what got me into it was the Anastasia (cartoon) movie.  I honestly knew there was more to it then that ill informed tale of a movie, so from there I have dug in and tried to find out more about this family how and why the died, how they lived ect ect.  So I guess some good came out of that movie  ;), from what I have read here and there that movie was very evil to many of you, to me it was only a starting point for me to start digging and finding the truth of it all.  I'm what I call a history buff of sorts now, stuff that really gets to me and pulls me in (at a time or point in history) I try and find alot about it as much as I can.   I hope that I will be able to fit in here for the most part I may just lurk but I will be around and posting where I can.
Oh and also I just love looking at the old Romanov photos everyone has posted, I've scanned a few posts and learned a few things I didn't know about them.

I am new :)

I have loved the Romanovs for a very long time, since learning about them, perhaps six or seven years ago.

I would love to go and visit many places in Russia the IF lived in/near. I'm a skeptic about claimants, survival theories, and Rasputin's evil/good nature. What else? I am Eastern Orthodox, so to me the Romanovs are Passion Bearers, and Saints.

I'm so glad I found this forum, it looks so fantastic and well run!

Hello everyone.  This is my first post, and I'm really impressed by the website!  I'm a professional historian who is writing a biography on Anna Vyrubova; I plan to be spending a lot of time here, as a lot of you are very knowledgeable about Imperial Russia and the Romanov family and there are some valuable resources at the site :)

Where does one find here on this site a thread devoted to designing a bright destiny for the Children of Russia?
Like statistics and information on exactly how things are at the present time. I have some old statistics but they are from 2001, and I was very shocked and upset to know just how many children were being put into orphanges and classified as mentally retarded, in the main these poor children are the result of no freely available birth control for the women of the streets....if a site like this can be created out of the ethers then what about the same people helping the kids of russia have a brighter future.

Hi everyone!

My name is Alexis and I'm from Canada.  I've been interested in the Romanov family for as long as I can remember... I'm pretty sure that my mom got the book "Anastasia's Album" by Hugh Brewster out of the library when I was little and that's how it started, but I'm not entirely sure.

Anyway, I've been lurking and reading here for about four or so years, so I thought I should finally join and introduce myself!

I've also been working on-and-off on my own Romanov website which is still a real work in progress, but here's the link.  Click here. (http://www.ruiter.ca/Monument/)

I'm looking forward to the chance to get to know everyone better!

Alexis

Alexis - I live in Canada too! Your Romanov site is great! You should make a thread on it in the "Romanov and Imperial Russia Links" board. Were those pictures on your site coloured by you?

Grand Duchess Jennifer - It's nice to meet another Canadian!  Thanks for the compliments regarding my website... I will definitely make sure to start a thread about in the "Romanov and Imperial Russia Links" board.  Yes, all coloured pictures on my site were coloured by me.  I quite enjoy colouring pictures and find it very relaxing, but I'm still a beginner for sure!

I'm basically interested in all things Russia. I have a particular interest in Russian history, and I'm (slowly) learning Russian. The Romanovs are a specific interest of mine, so I was quite happy to find this place.

I plan to go to Saint Peterrsburg as a children's missionary, hopefully working with orphans and street children.

I'm looking forward to learning more about the Romanovs, and meeting some people with similar interests.

Hi everyone!

I'm Beck (short for Rebekah) and I'm 19 years old. I live right on the border between Illinois and Indiana in a boring cornfield town where nothing exciting ever happens. I am a proud sophomore honors student at Indiana State University and I'm studying English and Science education so that hopefully one day I'll be teaching in junior high or high school somewhere not too far from home. I'm an only child and I have a dog, Snowball. I mostly I keep myself busy spending time with friends and family, doing church activities, with school work (of which I have an abundance) and hobbies. I enjoy almost anything artistic - painting, acting, writing, graphic design etc and I pretty much never leave the house without a book in my hand.

It's good to "meet" all of you.

Ok, I should have written here when I registered and that was like 7 months ago. Oops I forgot. But anyway now I'm here. So my name is Hilla and I'm 15 year old girl from Finland. I'm very proud of my name because it's the finnish name for cloudberry, which I think is a very nice berry. I'm the only child of my family and have always dreamed such siblings like OTMA had. I have a 7 year old dog, a schipperke. She's the number 1 thing in my life.
I have many hobbies like riding, singing, learning french... Next year I'm gonna start skating again. I quit when I was 6. But I love it so I want to go back to ice. In august I will go to college and start learning russia and french for real. I'm looking forward to that.
I've been interested in history since I saw the lovely cartoon movie "Anastasia" when I was little. And few years ago I started to search how things really went and bam! I got stucked in this world. But in a good way.
I'm very exited because I might have a chance to go to St. Petersburg in summer. That would be my third visit there but first time I could visit the palaces. That would be very interesting.

Funny though that I'm mostly very quiet person but sometimes, like now, I just keep talking and talking about myself  :D

Hilla, you are welcome! This is also great to have here another person from beautiful Northern Europe.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what are your attitude to Mannerheim? Among your classmates and familiars for example? Do you study him in school? Sadly, according to my information he is becoming more and more controversial figure in Finland with a big help of different Finnish left-wing establishment.

Btw, maybe you've already seen a huge thread dedicated to him? You can find there only one of his main sides - Russian (1887-1918). Something like: brave Russian General, close to Nicholas II Officer, favourite of Polish women and man from the Petersburg - narrow, but at the same time important period of his life story. I'm planning to continue writing about him in chronologically: Finnish Civ. War, interwar period, Winter War and so on till the end.

Nicolá, I don't mind asking but that's a very hard question. I don't see there's any attitude to him. Among my aged and a bit older finnish people he's such a neutral character. People hardly know who he was. We didn't study lot about him but I guess there will be more in higher schools. And yes, he's an controversial figure among the "big people", but not really among "the normal people" like me. Of course people have different views but they don't talk about them.

I support your plan about writing of him. People should know him better.

I'm sorry I couldn't really give you a sensible respond.

Sorry I didn't post in here before, but I only saw this thread today.  Anyway, I'm Tim, and I too like the Romanov family.  OTMA is what gets me the most.  I have seen many pictures of these four beautiful young women and it's horrible what happened to them.  I'm glad I found this board, where there are others who, like me, remember and honour the last Tsar and his family.

Anyway, I'm Canadian, and I like to write stories, mostly science fiction and fantasy.  I also write stories based on shows such as Charmed, Doctor Who, and Will & Grace.  I'm looking forward to being a member here.

Hello everyone,

I have been visiting the forum for several years but just decided to register and become a member.  I have enjoyed very much the wonderful photos that some of the members have shared and have also found a wealth of information in the books topic.  I was unaware of so many of the older books and have been collecting quite a few of them.  I am a little uncertain about posting since this is the first time I have been on a forum so please be gentle if I make a mistake.

I've been here for a few days already, but I haven't introduced myself yet...

My name's Anastasia (I love this coincidence xD), I'm 13 years old and I live in Germany. I always knew about the Romanovs (when I introduce myself to someone the answer often is 'Oh, Anastasia, like the daughter of the tsar' xD), and about half a year ago, when I was bored one day, I decided to look up the Romanovs and read more about them. The more I read, the more they and their story fascinated me. I've been visiting this board ever since. I've got almost all of my knowledge about the Romanovs from this Forum and everyone here seems to know so much about the Romanovs, so I'm kinda afraid that I can't contribute anything that hasn't been posted yet (that's why I've only written two other posts on this board up till now), but this Forum seems to be a lovely place, so I registered, anyway.

Mind you there ARE some rules:

You must be in by midnight,
Eat at least one meal of vegetables/salad per week
Never speak to strangers
And always wear something warm when you go out.

There, that said, I think we should all get on nicely.

Hello! I'm Vicky (not a Dagmar, alas) from England. I stumbled across this forum ages ago and thought: "Yay! More people obsessed with history like me," but I've only just plucked up the courage to join.

I've already learnt a ridiculous amount (even thought I should probably be concentrating on learning Cicero...but oh well) and I'm just buzzing around looking for anything particularly appealing to absorb and tell my fellow Latiners.

In order to keep dozens of new threads cluttering up this section, new users wanting to introduce themselves are to use this thread and THIS THREAD ONLY to do so. Any new thread started for that purpose will be removed without notice. Thanks for your cooperation and welcome!!

Hi Everyone. I am a newbie too! I am a relative of the Wettiners. I would like to comment further  about the entry on page 19 re Rudiger etc. I notice that Louise has had compassion from writers (as so she should ) and so also I believe this tragic family from Tante Margrit (died when only 26) leaving Rudiger and Iris to be raised by grandparents in the light of Georg Timo's ... (Yes Georg was his first name)grieving and depression, should also recieve compassion. I know also that through the ages in many Royal circles, very great crimes were committed and that did not result in them losing title. The parentage of any family regardless of nobility is through direct bloodline. As for the morganatic marriage of Margrit to Timo, had she survived I feel sure that  the morganatic issue would have been resolved (as has Princess Mary of Denmark). The female issue of Karl and Hilde Lucas (Margrit's family) were all faithful and devoted to their spouses. I have photographs of the marriage of Margrit and Timo. So here we have a family that fled persecution, were robbed of their heritage, suffered ill health from the poverty outcomes of war that everyone suffered, personal tragedy and now ...we judge them and further deny their right to their heritage. Accepting an adopted person as an heir to the title and  refusing the true bloodline their inheritance is a further assault on them. HOWEVER, I do personally believe that we are not given any title or wealth without responsibility and purpose and that purpose is to do good. Should Rudiger and his sons fulfil this duty of their heritage I see no reason that the Christianity formerly adhered to by this family but appearing long gone,  should not again become a standard of belief and action. By the way, according to my mother, the Lucas children used to take small packages of food and leave them in the forest so that Jewish people could benefit. That action of a morganatic family was truly noble! Bless ya!

I  suppose it high time I come out from hiding in the shadows and offer a humble "greetings to all," given so many of you have already provided me invaluable sources for my research.  Apologies for posting three new topics (questions) recently sans a proper hello.

My nickname is "Kiwi" given I live between New Zealand and New Mexico (USA), dodging bad bits of the cold seasons.  Perhaps my NM name should be "Chili."

This site has proven to be the BEST source for my investigating family relics (militaria/antiques) from the early 1900s, and my family's connection with Russia, especially between 1914 and 1922 -- strange that a family of Danes on business visas would make their way numerous times through Russia, Scandinavia, and the U.S. DURING the Revolution and through the entire Civil War.

Thanks folks.  Those of you who know political history (i.e. Anarcho-Syndicalists, and other non-Bolshevik revolutionaries), and those of you who know antiques and militaria have provided the best leads for books, experts, etc.

As for myself, after a fun academic career, I've turned to writing historical dramas.  Have completed two thus far (marketing stage), and am now collecting all the info I can on the 91st Dvinsk Regiment and the Anarcho-Syndicalist movement (the "dreamers").

Just this week, almost a year into my search, I found the documents that explain why my family was running TOWARD Russia during those turbulent times.  It'll be a fun story to tell.

Cheers,

Kiwi

Hello, I have been reading this forum for quite some time and I love it. There is a place with people just as interested as I am in the Romanov family and Russian history. I just love the fact that there are so many of us out there in the world.

A little about myself, I am from the Netherlands. I am a history teacher, and one of my favourite subjects to teach about is the Russian revolution. (although I studied medieval history, not modern history) Poor students, I cannot let this subject go without a detailed account of the Romanov family. But most of them do find it very interesting, especially the fate of the children connects with them.

I am looking forwards to share my love of the Romanovs with and to learn from all the people on this forum.

kind regards, Bettina

Griae, you are very welcome!

It's always a pleasure to have here (and talk with) someone with historical education. I envy you in a good way. I like the serious Russian history researching (historical philosophy, Russian problematics, revolutions, regime changes, intellectuals and ordinary people, etc...) but sometimes lack of professional historical education effected.

Waiting for your contribution here. But..., I must admit that the last Romanov's and Russian Revolution themes are for miles and miles away from the Medieval times;). I think that even one Russian Revolution with afterbirth Civil War is an order of magnitude more difficult, then all the Medieval times. But it's only my personal opinion.

Thank you both, Aleksandr Pavlovich and Nicola De Valeron for your kind welcome.

Nicola, I agree with you about the difference between medieval history and the Russian revolution. That is why I consider myself an amateur reagarding Russian history. I have no wehre near the same amount of knowledge about this subject than a lot of people on this forum.

Aleksandr, how nice you are also a mediaevalist, you find us in the strangest places!

kind regards, Bettina

Hello! I stumbled upon your website some time back while looking for more information on the Romanovs and I've been lurking for quite some time so I finally decided to sign up for an account.

My username may be Princess Victoria but my real name is Rachel. I stumbled upon this username playing a nation simulation game and it stuck. The game was also where I began my love for royal & imperial histories. First, it was the Hohenzollerns I became interested in. I'm still interested but from the Hohenzollerns I went on to the British Royals for a brief period. I don't know how but I eventually ended up fascinated by the Romanovs. I blame my interest on my endless reading list of which I have lost the page count on. I'm from central North Carolina and I'm currently in college again, this time studying pharmacy technology.

I look forward to seeing you folks around the forums.

Sincerely,
Princess Victoria

My name is Ryan, and I wanted to briefly share my story with the whole community. For the last year, I have considered myself a staunch Marxist-Leninist, and used to defend Lenin as if I was a member of the Bolshevik Party. Like most Leninists in the twenty-first century, I defended Lenin and criticized Stalin as a traitor to Communism and the Revolution, while refusing to simply open my eyes and realize that Lenin betrayed both Communism and the ideals of the Russian Revolution right after he came to power.  I have never been in favor of the murder of the Imperial Family—as part of my Marxist viewpoint— however I refused to judge Lenin based on it until recently, along with the Red Terror campaign, which claimed 800 lives in two months (Sep-Oct) in 1918 in Lenin's Red Terror campaign. I didn't want to see the other side.
Having been a Russian history buff for about a year now, in May, while on YouTube, I came across a video I had never heard—The Romanovs: An Imperial Family. At first, I didn’t plan on watching it, because I already knew all I needed to know about the Romanovs (representative of extreme indoctrination). I couldn’t sleep, it was about 2a.m., and it was something new, so I convinced myself to watch it. By the time I was halfway through it, while I was most supportive of Lenin, I felt great sympathy for Alexei (played by Vladimir Grashko), for the first time having actually seen what he went through (I understand his dilemma because I have had type 1—insulin-dependent—diabetes since I was 16). I was touched the talk that Pierre Gilliard and Alexei had, watching Nicholas be taken away to Yekaterinburg. The soft musical undertone, and Gilliard sadly telling Alexei he will always be “majesty” to him. Then Yakov Sverdlov ruins the moment by ordering that Alexei and his sisters be sent to Yekaterinburg as well. What finally changed my opinion of Nicholas was the scene in Nicholas and Alexandra where Nicholas responded to Yurovsky  (who said he was a murderous Tsar) “I have since realized that a strong man has no need for power, and a weak man is corrupted by it.” That epitaph describes Lenin accurately.
I have experience both sides. I understand the Leninist viewpoint and still sympathize with aspects of it; but I cannot sympathize with the cruelty and naivety, initiated and perpetuated by Lenin, that led a small group of young men to brutally murder an entire family—two parents, three young adults, and two children—and a few loyal servants in a basement, indoctrinated by the false idea that this would all end in utopia. In fighting for social justice, it is vital that the death penalty be abolished.
It is in memory of the youngest of the eleven killed 93 years ago—Alexis Romanov, the last Emperor of Russia--that I have created this account.

Tsar Alexei II

Welcome  Rachel! and Ryan ! I found both your stories very interesting and connected in a way. They both  tell of a journey taken  though other places and here you are. I have to say, the Romanovs have never cease to reward me for my interest. I think you will find the same =)

Well said, Ryan.  I found your story interesting because I too have sympathies that seem to clash with my interest in the Romanovs and other royalty.  Anyway, welcome both you and Princess Victoria to the Forum  ;)

Welcome Ryan and Rachel!

Ryan, that is a real heart warming story! People can be swayed by pity, and your a great example. It's true that Lenin did stray from his morals, but I think it's just because he wanted to create a better Russia for his family and people. Although, that won't stop me from hating his guts for killing innocent children; imperial or otherwise. If I could I would slap that man senseless and send a telegram telling the Bolsheviks telling them to escort the Imperials and all servants to the Russian border and get them on a boat to the US. But alas, we have to make the best of the world we were left with. Either way, welcome and happy Romanoving!

Well, here goes! I hope that I am doing this right.

I have been reading the AP Time Machine and the Forum off and on for many years.

I actually registered last March, but this is my first posting.

Question: With so many topics and threads spanning so many years, how can anyone know if someone else posts new information on a topic that perhaps has not been active for some time?

One could spend a lifetime tracking everything down — even with the search option.

Any comments or advice?

Thanks!

I'm afraid it's the only way. Like you i had been reading the forum for ages before registring and still, i did not know everything there was on it.
Often newbies (i was the first do to it!) start a lot of new threads to makle question, but my advice is: wait for a queation to pop up in your mind. When it happens, first check in the search engine, and take some time to browse in the forum to see if you can find a thread where the topic is discussed. Then, if you don't, wonder if there's  already a thread where your question would be in the right place but hadn't been asked yet. If not again... well, you really should start a new topic ^^
Art least, this is the way I use, you could try to see if it's ok for you.
With the search engine, for exapmple, i was able not only to find a lot of infos i was searching for, but also so many others i hadn't asked yet!

Welcome again!

I've been following this forum for a while now and find it fascinating.

A little about me. I worked during high school as an electrician's apprentice and developed a fascination with architecure. I worked for my dad who did strictly up scale residential work in the So Cal Areas of San Marino, Beverly Hills, Pasadena. I was also a huge history buff growing up.

I did not follow through with becoming an electrician after watching my dad struggle through the down times and sought a job with more security, but it didn't kill my love of beautiful architecure.

I discovered this amazing site while looking up the various palaces on line. After perusing the site my history bug got to me and you all have awakened a strong interest in the entire history of the Russian Empire.

Thank you all for your contributions and I hope I may be able to add some along the way too.

I'm Alianora (or Alia for short).  My screen name comes from my favorite royal of all time, Eleanor of Aquitaine - Alianora is a variation of Eleanor.  I'm also descended from Eleanor (through both her husbands, Louis VII of France and Henry II of England).  Of course, to paraphrase a well-known saying - "That and a dollar will get me a cup of coffee.". Same with my being a 4th cousin of Winston Churchill through his American mother.  My avatar is a colorized Victorian drawing of Eleanor.

I've been interested in royalty for as long as I can remember.  When I first told my mom about our royal ancestors, she laughed and reminded me of when I used the encyclopedias when I was 8 to write up a timeline of England's kings and queens.  I can't remember when I got interested in the Romanovs.  It seems like I've always known who Anastasia was, probably because I was 12 when Anna Anderson died.  I first read Nicholas and Alexandra when I was in my early teens, after seeing the movie, and was in college when the bones from the first grave were identified.

I've lurked around here for a while, butl just recently signed up.  Glad to be able to chat with people who share the same interests that I do.

For someone who lived in the 12th Century, Eleanor of Aquitaine is interesting for how long she lived.  In a time when one was lucky to see their 40th birthday, she lived to be 82 years old!

Especially considering she gave birth to 10 children in an age where many women died in childbirth.  Her long life meant she outlived all but two of her children, Queen Eleanor of Castile and King John of England.  One of the most amazing stories I've heard about her is how she traveled to and from Castle, going over the Pyrenees Mountains, to bring back her granddaughter Blanche of Castile to marry the future King of France.  She made this trip in 1200, when she was 78!

I've always been somewhat interested in life expectancy and the longevity of those from the past. It seems like a lot of people made it at least to relatively old age if they were able to reach a certain point. Tim I agree with 40 sort of being the magic number...to get there was rather difficult, a trecherous path. But if you made it that far, reaching, say, 70 or beyond was not that unusual. Obviously the wealthy and privileged, with better medical care, sanitation, diets, etc, had a much better shot at this than a "commoner".

It's easy to be initially shocked at how short life expectancies were centuries ago but that number is also skewed. So many more babies and young children died than do so now. If one sibling lived to 80 and the other died at 4 the average between them is a mere 42, for instance. But that 80 year when they were in their 30s and 40s could have been reasonably optimistic for a long life still.

One last thing to keep in mind with regards to life expectancy. If they say the average is 78, for example, that means it's 78 from birth. Should you reach childhood it goes up to maybe 80...reach your 20s it inches up further, 40s, 50s, etc. So by the time that you're 78 (should you be relatively healthy) your odds of making it another decade+ increase exponentially.

Back on topic now...HELLO ALL NEWCOMERS! :)

In those day, medical science was virtually nonexistent (they don't call it the Dark Ages for nothing).  The cities were grubby, animal feces was everywhere, it was a breeding ground for disease.  This was the era that the Black Death made its march across Europe, wiping out half the continent.

No wonder life expectancies were so short.

Hello everybody! I joined AP last night, though I confess to visiting the site, as a sort of thief in the night, fairly frequently for 3-4 years.

Hey, is that a 301 gun salute I hear? How kind, thank you!

I’m already quite an expert, so feel free to milk my extensive knowledge… Like, I know what OTMA means, and even NAOTMAA, but much more than that you’ll have to ask somebody else.

I live in Canterbury, Kent, UK, not far from the sewage farm… I don’t get many visitors.

I like to colour Romanov photos… sorry about that if you’re a “purist”. Worse, I even sometimes manipulate and otherwise alter the pictures too. I don’t do this to publish the pics online (at least not so far), but they go into my videos on YouTube. My username on YouTube is “MessengerMagi” if you’d like to take a peek. Here’s the links to my two latest videos if you’re interested:

http://youtu.be/Oo8n0ajOwXo (A short Tsar Nicholas video)

http://youtu.be/jX7GTAf7HgY (A longer Tsarevich Alexei video)

So far my videos have mainly concentrated on Tsarevich Alexei. It’s a sort of subtle agitation to get him and GD Maria respectfully buried sometime soon. Sadly, it doesn’t appear to be working in that respect just yet. Maybe YouTube is too modern for the “House of Romanov” and the ROC hierarchy to watch, or they’re reluctant to see how a proper Imperial Family looks and acts? Or perhaps they’re still too busy trying to figure out what DNA is?

I’m over the moon to be a member of the wonderful AP family now, and I promise to behave myself… following Tsarevich Alexei’s splendid example. What fun!

Well it's really going to horrify you then to learn that I've actually made 325 posts since becoming a member on here. But it's as much about where you post as it is how much you post.

My batting average right now is .283. Good enough for an everyday MLB lineup but pretty crappy by virtually any other measurement :-)

That said I'm only eight posts away (well I guess maybe seven after this) from acquiring that elusive second star...woo hoo!

Hello!

I am Brian and I have joined just today! For years I have frequented the forum and site to gather information and now that I am very close to finishing school, I have decided it was time to join! I look forward to delving into these discussions and hopefully making some contributions.

For years I have been fascinated by the history of the Imperial Russian Family, as well as other Royal Families. I myself am descended from the Spencers, whom we are still in contact with today! I feel quite privileged to have such a family history, although I don't always appreciate it. Distant relatives of mine even include Churchill!

What really sparked off my interest in history was learning of my family's travels in 1912 when they were onboard the Titanic and disembarked at Cobh in Ireland. Had they not, I might not be typing this today!

Currently I am studying music, history, art and French. I also learn Russian in my spare time. I was to be attending the Amadeus Academy of Music but decided to stay local since leaving my family is a little too difficult for me at the moment. Maybe one day I will live in another country on my own. Hopefully Russia! Hehe.

Anyway, I very much look forward to talking to you all and getting involved with some of the discussions on here!

Welcome! You should check out the Bookfindersection on the main AP website. It's an excellent feature listing and describing in fairly good detail almost all the primary Romanov books , old and new. It's so thorough it's almost overwhelming. A great place to visit and further your reading.

Post by: sunbeam on March 01, 2013, 03:48:33 AM
Hello everyone,

This is my first post as new member. I hope this is the right place to introduce myself.

I'm a 32 year old Dutch journalist and poet. I have only recently become fascinated with the Romanov history. Especially the fate of tsarevitch Alexei. My nickname on the forum was one of his, according to Pierre Gilliard. Alexei's life story includes elements and themes that interest me and strike a chord with the imagery and symbolism that I am using in my recent poems. So now I am thinking of writing a series of poems about Alexei and the Romanov family.
Since I am so new to the whole Romanov history, I am still learning and trying to get my hands on books and pictures etc. I joined the forum in order to share my enthusiasm and learn more.

A little bit more about me... I am Roman Catholic, since 2010. I was brought up Protestant but wanted to find my own way as I got older. After many years I found my home in the Roman Catholic church and am now also working for my parish.

I have always had a mild interest in history. Especially WWII because relatives of my grandparents on my mother's side were involved in the resistance. A great-uncle of mine smuggled illegal newspapers and was caught and later killed in revenge for an attack on a German official. He was only 18 years old at the time. His name is in the official honorary list of the fallen, compiled by the Dutch government. His parents and a brother of his are commemorated, along with hundreds of others, with their names on a wall in Yad Vashem, Jerusalem. I got to visit that wall last year.

I love music of all kinds, especially English college and cathedral choirs. I'm also a big fan of the British boys choir Libera and am a moderator of a Libera fan forum.

I hope to have an enjoyable time here. Thanks for reading ;)

And yet your likeness chose Felix Yusupov's hand in marriage over poor Dmitri. What's more Olga (Nikolaevna) from St.P. was also forced to reject Grand Duke Pavlovich. Ahhh how it drips with irony!

Some friend you are!

lol :-P Seriously though, welcome Olga!

My father had lived in both Amersfoort and Utrecht (his family moved around a lot.) : )

I live in Ontario, near Toronto.

lol :-P Dmitri definitely desired Irina, but she chose Felix. From what I gather it was a pretty amicable arrangement. Obviously it didn't cost Dmitri and Felix their friendship as the two were united in the plot to murder Rasputin.

Far as Dmitri and Olga N. are concerned, there was much discussion of the possibility of GD Pavlovich as suitor for the eldest Grand Duchess daughter of the Tsar & Empress. But I believe it was his "unsavory" relationship with Felix and persistent rumors of their sexual dalliances that made Alexandra think better of the union.

I guess you can't blame Alix for thinking this way. Yet consider how GD Xenia and Alexander Mikhailovich accepted, albeit with reservations, Felix as their new son-in-law. Certainly he was far more outlandish and had a far more controversial reputation than Dmitri. Yet they remained open-minded and allowed the marriage to proceed. By all accounts Felix & Irina wound up a terrific match and had a happy marriage. Could Olga Nikolaevna and Dmitri Pavlovich not have done the same? Perhaps fate would never have allowed it, but I can't help but be saddened by the thought that marrying him would have saved her life.

Dmitri P has always seemed to me to favor more sophisticated women than Olga N . and certainly she seemed to enjoy those less  suave than he. Why he was chosen among the family to aid in the killing of Rasputin is a mystery to me.  Alix was not going to allow one of her girls to marry before the war, they hadn't even had a coming out ball in the capital  before much less being thought of as marriage material ...and during the war Olga said there was "no danger" of a marriage coming up . So just when  she and Dmitri  would have a chance to marry at all  is another question. Dmitri  lived because he refused  to return to the capital when "invited" to do so by the new government . If only others did that as well.

Olga from St.P your English is very good! Welcome !

     Hi all!
My name is Mike and I'm a new user. I've "watched" for years. I'm a huge royalty fan, British royalty in particular. I've collected "Majesty" magazine for twenty-four years. I can still recall the excitement and fascination I felt when I bought my first book with a royal as a subject. It was on the late queen mother of England. I have to say I admire greatly the collective knowledge of this esteemed forum, and I look forward to contributing positively in my small way.

   Thanks again and hello! :D

Hello!

I've trolled this site for many years now (not in the real sense of an internet 'troll', thank goodness!), and I have registered on the forum just today. I've been somewhat of an 'outsider' in the Romanov community, but I would love to get involved!

Currently, I am studying history, classical civilisation, sociology and English literature and language. In the near future, I'll also be working towards an MA in decorative arts and historic interiors. I'm actually descended from one of the oldest aristocratic families in Britain, and have been fortunate enough to have been surrounded by beautiful stately homes my whole life, and it was when I was young that I developed a keen interest in antiques and interiors. It is thanks to my family heritage that this is my area of interest!

The Romanovs have always been a huge fascination of mine, and I've studied them for years. Naturally, my interest gravitated towards the interiors and design of their dwellings, transport and other buildings. I am currently in the early stages of writing a book, dedicated solely on the interiors of Alexander Palace, which may be in a couple of different volumes. This is a fairly new project, but having studied historic interiors for a long time now, as well as accumulating a vast collection of reference material, the wheels are most definitely in motion. The biggest obstacle will, of course, be copyrights. Funding this book is not cheap, especially purchasing material to study, including books and documents, some of them original. Contemporary sources are also expensive to own, but hopefully my hard work will all pay off.

Anyway, you can expect to hear from me a lot more in the future! I very much look forward to getting involved in these discussions, and keep an eye out for the announcement of my book, which will be made closer to the publication date!

Hullo from Texas, all.  I'm a lifelong Russophile, and developed an interest in the Romanov family about halfway into my life, about 16-17 years ago.  I've come across this forum many times in my searches, and have perused alexanderpalace.org quite a lot.  So after several years...I decided to take the plunge and register.  :)  I do keep up with Ms. Azar's project of Olga's diaries on Facebook, and follow/post there pretty often.

I don't have half the photo-identification skills/knowledge of most people here, so I'll keep quiet, for the most part, and learn.

I'm in my early 30s & just now nearing completion of my bachelor's degree in English, with a minor in history.  I love all things Celtic, Russian, and Oriental, animals, anything medieval or Renaissance, most music, have an addiction to scents, and love to write - when, of course, the muse descends, which is rare.

I'm currently working, in my "spare time", on an organized "archive" of Romanov photos by date, location, etc., but if/when I'm finally satisfied with it, would love to post online for anyone to reference.

So these are some of the fascinating facts of my life, which, unfortunately, aren't really that fascinating at all.

Oh my!  This is going to be a learning experience for me.  By way of introduction, let me just say I had to hit the reply button to post anything.  LOL!   I am technologically challenged in that regard.  To further the intro, I am a retired teacher of "social studies" (more like history) and English---and a lover of both.  I was born into a very different and very poor family who did not appreciate "books."  I found books exciting, and books opened up new vistas I couldn't visit due to my socio-economic status.  I read most of Shakespeare by the time I was ten.  (Come to find out later De Vere was one of my great grandfathers.  There is some evidence and a claim on the official Shakespeare site that state De Vere and Shakespeare were the same.)  Due to the fact that many royal "second born" children came to America in the 1600s and so on, I am related to most royalty in most countries (except Asia) -- that includes the Romanovs (confirmed via my dad's DNA).  Another of my great grandfathers -- Lord Ferdinando Fairfax -- had a daughter, Lady Francis Fairfax, who married a Widdrington, and their son, Samuel, came to America to start one of my lines, but there are so many others.  I have traced my lines back to 750 BC at this time.

All of that, while notable in a historical sense and perspective of "roots," means little in America, and it meant nothing to my father who died last year of Alzheimer's.  I was able to tell him from whence he came before his mind completely went, but it still meant nothing to him.  He was raised prior to/and during the Great Depression and had little book-learning.  However, I have always been different.  I believe a person's DNA is a strong bond to what I call "ancestral memory."  From a young age I had a thirst for learning about the French, the Russians, the Vikings, and so on.  This was not given to me by my parents; it was encoded into my DNA.  It has only been in the last five years that I discovered my ancestors who had lived before the 1800s (except for a French Huguenot I always knew about because of my grandmother), and again, that is not unique.  I am sure there are many who connect to the various Dynasties.  DNA simply supports the paper trail.

My name -- "Duchess Room 311" -- was bestowed upon me by a cab driver after he heard some of my history and ancestry.  I was visiting my daughter and staying at a hotel.  I look forward to learning and possibly sharing (as soon as I figure out how to make a post without hitting the reply button!).  Hope I wasn't too long-winded.

Lord Fairfax's daughter was not entitled to the style "Lady". As long as she wasn't the daughter of a duke, marquess or earl but a mere Scottish lord of parliament aka baron, she was just "The Honourable Francis Fairfax".

You are correct, and thank you for that correction.  I thought some may be interested in seeing how the line of Fairfax enters in to the lineage of Prince William and his bride, Duchess of Cambridge Catherine Middleton.  They are 14th cousins once removed via the Fairfax line.  http://www.americanancestors.org/uploadedFiles/American_Ancestors/Content/Blogs/The_Ancestry_of_Catherine_Middleton/WilliamChart.pdf

Hi, I'm new here!  I was wondering if it's ok to start a thread for new members to introduce themselves and why they're here?  I have been lurking here in the past for information about biographies on the Holstein-Gottorp-Romanovs.  I'm particularly interested in the places that the immediate royal Russian family visited besides their royal residences.  I'm also interested in Alix's relatives!  I'm very shy at first but am always wanting to learn about other cultures.  I'm an American.

Hi, everyone. My name is Scott, and I'm from Mississippi.  As you might guess from my username, I enjoy writing about hockey, especially hockey history. I have a general interest in history as well, and Imperial Russia is one of my favorite subjects. I haven't really had much time to put into it for a while, but I've begun some study anew in the last few days.

I know I won't have much to offer compared to many on this board, but I look forward to reading, learning from, and hopefully joining in on some of the conversation.

If you don't mind my asking what team did you grow up rooting for down in the Deep South?

Hi all. I discovered this forum quite by accident about 10 days ago while researching some family history (sooooo difficult). Anyway - I have spent hours reading all the posts on this fastinating subject.  through out my life I had never been told anything about my fathers side of the family until about 2 years ago when he gave me the names of his parents and their birthplaces etc. and since then I have learned quite a bit but I am digging for more. As far back as I can remember I have had such an interest in the  Romanovs and as I continue to learn more and more about them I have become completely addicted!  Looking forward to continuing to learn here!

Aloha! This is my first ever posting, although I've been quietly stalking so many of these threads for nearly twenty years... what's motivated me to actually post something is, i want to say how very grateful I am for APTMF and its denizens; I'm never really alone in my obsessions anymore! I realised its been TWENTY YEARS since Bob started this, and I want to scream THANK YOU from the top of Mauna Kea! I value this place and its contributors more than I can explain; you all, unknowing, add greatly to the quality of my life.

I'm back -- used to post as Skatepixie but changed my name to reflect the title of the Alternate History novel I am writing about the Romanov family.

Hi, Mutley here at last!

Seems I registered about 7 years ago and for some reason did not progress the matter ::) :-[

Anyhow, I intend to put up a couple of posts very soon :)

Hello to everyone!

I'm a total newbie and this is my first post.

I happened upon this forum by chance and I'm so happy to find a place to discuss one of my favorite topics - the Russian Imperial Families and royalty in general.

I'm currently readingThe Last Empress, by Greg King, and his point of view is different from many of the other books I've read about Alix/MF. I'm fascinated!

I look forward to learning how the forum works and contributing to the discussions. :))
