Title: Welcome to the IMPROVED Forum!
Post by: Forum Admin on March 25, 2006, 08:29:27 AM
Welcome to the NEW version of the Forum, same as the old version just better! All your old information is still here, no need to re-register or anything like that.

ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: please make sure to change your bookmarks or favorite place holders to the new address.  The old version is on a different server and is LOCKED to be read only.

We expect a few "gremlins" in the system so please don't hesitate to PM or email me if you are having problems or issues.

Enjoy

Thanks, FA -- looks great!

One question:
How come I can't find the Discusison forums? All those Forum Member threads and goofy games, etc.?

HELP ME!!!!! I couldn't remember my password so I reset it. Now I can't see where to change it.  :'( And until someone tells me how I can't change anything about my profile, like my picture or anything.

I can't see the discussion forum either, and I hope it's not gone because I remember some posters ONLY posted there. (Also Palace Members don't exist anymore? Or at least we were all just de palace membered?)

Also, it's really really slow. I don't think it's just my computer. I'm sitting here about to cry because it took 5 minutes to load this tiny little page. Is that going to change anytime soon?

The Discussion Forum is still there, I can see it and access it. Yes, the old Palace members did not seem to make the transition, but there are new controls, so I think you old time users can all now see it.
We are aware of how slow it suddenly is, I think its a bandwidth issue, we are looking into it

Margarita, I'll fix your password now. Relax, deep breath, "calm blue ocean"....

I can't change my profile - I have my password, but every time I try to, it says 'profile session timed out'.

EDIT - scratch that, it worked.  ;)

Looks terrific!  I'm sure the speed issue will be resolved soon.
I'm glad that the members' threads are still there, although I'm afraid I can't see them, either.

(these smilies are kind of freaking me out, they're so animated!)

I work with software all day and would be on the phone to somebody really quick about the speed, or rather lack thereof.   :-/  As a point of reference, to move forward in the forum, whether between subjects or between threads, it taking about 45 seconds.  To return to this posting to edit it took 45 seconds.  I am setting here with a new Dell and wasn't having trouble with the old forum.

"Back" works OK.

I am glad to learn I am not the only one to find it very slow. I was beginning to fear it was my computer.
I cannot see the Discussion forum section either. I hope it will be back very soon.
My signature has disappeared. Was it too long or something ?

I share the emotion of my fellow country kroket above,it took a while to enter, but it was worth waiting. Was interesting NOT to be able to get to the forum for 2 days, used as I,and certainly many others, are to pop in from time to time, but think it must have been an horendous job to fix it all.But who "changed the speed limit"?Thought my PC had a virus, but no,so could someone please put some chili peppers in the system,so it"ll move faster? :P....And I miss the Discussion Forum, how can we let GDElla know that another week has gone and when her sweetheart of the forces is bound for home sweet home......

The new layout looks good! :) I think it is a great improvement that one can now select several PMs and delete them in one go. And I love the new text colour palet.

It's weird, though, that several posts have miraculously disappeared over the maintenance period.

Helen,

The software guy started copying over the databases before notifying me, so I could switch to maintenance mode.  Posts made in the very last 45 min to an hour in the old forum didn't make the switch.

As I understand it, our old Forum is still there, posts and all, it's simply "read only". You might want to PM the FA if you notice anything specfically missing, as I think we were expecting that there might be glitches with the new software. I must confess I haven't noticed any myself, and am really glad we are back after a two day "hiatus".

We KNOW its slow, we KNOW that those of you who used to go to the "private" section can't see it. As I said above, we're working on these things, so everyone just repeating them over and over won't help. The Discussion Forum section is actually HERE in the new forum, I've been tearing my hair out figuring out why you can't see it, since I can...

Please just be patient with us this next few days while we try to sort it all out.

and YES, the "old" original forum will be left back up at the old address as "read-only" in case anything does disappear here during the transition.  As soon as we can get the whole thing locked down over there, you'll know about it.

Thanks guys for all the appreciative words!!

The new site is very pleasant.  However it is incredibly slow.  I am on broad band and can't imagine how slow it must be for dial up.

I can't see the Discussion Forum either.

Also, posts that I made on March 22 and later were not transferred over on at least two threads.

I also am not getting notification of postings on the threads that I asked for notification on.

Goodness me! What a change! It looks very swanky over here now, thanks FA! :) Excellent work!

My one criticism is that I had to sign in with my password- it took me serious brainpower to remember it! And add me to the list of people who can no longer see the 'Discussion Forum'.

I am very happy with this new layout.  It's very pretty.  :)

Well, gang, one of the plusses of the new forum is increased security, the negative to that is that you will need your password more often.

The very FIRST time you sign in to the new forum, you will need your password. However, you can set the system to "always" remember you so you don't need to do that every time you come back.
HOWEVER, to make ANY changes to your profile and personal information you will ALWAYS need your password, for extra security. So write down your password and keep it handy!!

OK!  ;D

I am reasonably sure that you can all see the Discussion Forum now! (it worked in my "other" user name).

The new "rule" is that everyone who has passed the "secret minimum number" of postings can post there now! No more needing to ask that I make you a Palace member.  All you "old" guys are well past the secret minimum number.

Let me know if this still isn't working right.  :P

Is the Palace Member status a thing of the past now, or will it revert to being bestowed as a mark of distinction?

I did a search. I found the posting I was looking for, and someone posted a link to another thread about the same subject, but that link didn't work  :-/. I got the screen telling about the new address for the Forums. Does that mean links to other threads won't work anymore?
So then I tried to go back to the older postings to try and find it, found it but got an error message when trying to read the thread.

Hi,
Sadly, yes, Angie, the old link addresses won't work, at least until we fix the old forum to be read only. Even then, you will get a link to an address in the old forum, but at least then you will know where to look for it here in the new forum.

Sorry for this inconvienience

Like GDElla, I can now read the Discussion forum section, but I can't reply.  There are simply no buttons for replying, quoting, etc.

Just to let you know, FA.  With the big update, there are bound to be some kinks needing ironing out, and I am happy to be patient.  I know I'm not the only one who appreciates all of this effort you're putting in, especially as you don't get paid! :)

We know about the colors. These are the default colors for the software. Bob and I decided to get the new forum up and running ASAP, work out the bugs, especially the slowness issue, FIRST, then we will change the palette.

FYI, if you go to your personal profile, and go to the "options" section, you will see a small pulldown for "templates", eventually, I hope to have a couple of different color palate templates in there so you can "personalize" your APTM Forum experience, so if you don't like the default settings, you can change select an option you prefer. Am still trying to figure that bit all out, so be patient!

Let's see, I can see the screen, lol, and i'm one of the old guys, everything seems to work, except, I need to have a better understanding about the storage, e-mail, etc. of one's messages placed individually under our own identifying names. Would there be anyone available to kindly pm me in regards to this part so I may better understand how to store, etc. I had to come back and modify my message. I also tried to enter the discussion forum, but was given a message, i am not authorized to enter the area. How does one get in ?

Delighted to see for GDElla, that in 9 weeks, her dear hubby will be home. Hurrah for you ! Glad for this good news ! Hugs to you and yours.

Will our old links to previous threads be updated as well?

Here's what I mean -- when I click on the link in the post below, it takes me to the "Maintenance-Mode-Please-Go-to-the-New-Forum" page instead of the original thread:

Hi,
No, sorry, there is simply no possible way to have the old links updated to the new forum address. What [highlight]will happen[/highlight] (eventually  8-) ) is that we will figure out how to lock the old forum to be read-only, so the re-direct message will be removed and the old links will take you to the old forum where it can at least be read.

Thats the plan anyway..

[size=14]I too have found the rather washed out fonts to be difficult to read. I also think that the present font size, 11 point is too small. I have been able to remedy these issues by increasing the font size to 14 point, using the Serif font and making it bold. This post will serve as an example of these measures.[/size][/b]

That I can alter the font types and sizes is a big improvement over the old forum. This new forum also supports Russian characters which is a big plus in a Russian history site.

[size=14][ch1044][ch1077][ch1081][ch1074][ch1080][ch1076] [ch1069][ch1096][ch1083][ch1080] [ch1055][ch1088][ch1080][ch1090][ch1095][ch1072][ch1088][ch1076]    [/size]

But I can't seem to get the smileys to work?

This new forum also supports Russian characters which is a big plus in a Russian history site.

[size=14][ch1044][ch1077][ch1081][ch1074][ch1080][ch1076] [ch1069][ch1096][ch1083][ch1080] [ch1055][ch1088][ch1080][ch1090][ch1095][ch1072][ch1088][ch1076]    [/size]

I am delighted that finally we can use Cyrillic fonts.

Now we can easily include extracts and definitions that are under discussion in the original language for all to see!

A very content  [size=14][ch1041][ch1077][ch1083][ch1086][ch1095][ch1082][ch1072]   [/size]  :D

YES! I can see the Discussion forum again. Thank you very much.

I also like the thing at the bottom that tells us how many characters we have left. In the old forum you had to hope you were under the limit, because you'd lose the post if it was over.

Yes you can. Go to your profile, go to the options tab, and select the time offset for your location. All time will then be displayed in your local time.

Definitely! The setting is just in a slightly different place, now.

Go to your profile, and click "modify" (it's under your avatar photo). Then, click on "options" on the blue band across the top of your profile. The Options page has a "Time Offset" option you can modify for your time zone.

[size=14]That reminds me of something important. If you have already passed the Magic secret number of posts to go there, you must also make sure that you have selected a gender in your profile.  For some reason the only way I could make it work was to set the advanced permissions to "both genders", so if you haven't selected one in your profile it won't work[/size]

Dear Alexander Palace Time Machine,
This may be the incorrect place for comments re the new forum, but I find this certainly new but certainly NOT improved...it is very slow loading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much prefer the former...am I the only one that is experiencing frustration?
This has always been the place I click first when I do on-line, and POOF!!! I was always in in a matter of seconds!!!!!!!   What has happened?

[ch1057][ch1072][ch1088][ch1091][ch1096][ch1082][ch1072],

I do not want to sound like I am some computer illiterate because I am far from that but I have been trying to install the Russian keyboard for some years. With the directions that you posted, I was able to accomplish this in under four hours. I can only attribute these installation problems to some corrupted programs that I dread to remove and re-instal. Thank you so much for your assistance.

I know there are always start up issues in making a change like this, and I don't want to sound whiney or carping on the great work the FA has done.  I just have a question: Is there no longer a link that takes us from the Alexander Palace Discussion Forum to the Alexander Palace Time Machine?  I keep trying to click on the banner for the Time Machine at the top of the page and nothing happens.  Is this just a matter of time?
Thanks for the new forum-- it seems a little quicker today.

I already checked your profile.  Do this (actually it works for ANYONE having software issues with the forum, so TRY it before asking me for help)
Log out of the forum (don't just close the window)
Clear all cookies from your browser (security prefereces)
Close the browser program.
Restart the browser program
Log in to the forum again.

[size=14][/size]I am ok with the new format, but I have to agree with Daivid P. that the print is too light and small. Changing the template, though, helped this a lot. Much easier for me to read. I do like very much the improved notification feature- almost unlimited it seems. Not quite sure what the  "add to favourites" list actually does though.
One thing I would have liked, not just on this forum but others as well is spellcheck.[size=14][/size]
as you can see, I am experimenting with the size & font, but this is too much bother to do everytime one posts !

[size=12]Ok, another annoying question  ::)
How come when you do the search now you are only limited to 15 results?[/size]

Does it have to do with what will be the "read only" pages of the old site?

You can change the default setting of 15 to whatever you want, just type in a new number. FYI you get better results limiting one hit per thread.

The Alexander Palace image on the banner is magnificent. It is simple, and the Palace appears to be enveloped in mist giving it some mystery - and that idea appeals to me.

I have only one minor concern. I notice that the font size has been increased today. I am aware that some posters prefer this larger size, however I prefered the smaller one. If most prefer this size then I will adjust.

Thanks again Rob and Bob for presenting this splendid new Forum software - it is very smart and user friendly.

[size=10]Dear FA,

I checked again to make sure that the error is still transpiring, before telling you of the difficulty that arises when i am ready to logout. I did not want to bother you if I could make changes myself.

When I go to logout, I place the mouse where required on the logout area. Nothing happens. I then have to do this again at least two times, and still nothing transpires. However, when I decide to press on one of the threads it suddenly states that an error has transpired, and at the same time, I am logged out.

Thank you kindly for any support and assist I might have in regards to the issue(s) above. Thank you also for all the hard work put in on the new AP Website. I enjoy the new website and all it's changes.

I had six or seven emails yesterday reporting a denial of access to the forum. People all freaked out they were "banned". I haven't banned anyone at all. First, if you're banned, you get an email from me and, you can still read the forum as guest, just not log in to post.  Even if you did, you get the Forum logo and a message saying specifically that "You are banned".

THIS problem is a server problem. You get a server message "You are not permitted access to forum.alexanderpalace.org".  This is a temporary message that arises from several things. The cause is either Walt is working on server issues to make things faster and smoother, or the server processor is running at full capacity and simply can't accept any new users (we are addressing this with the new processor in the next week or so.)

SO, bottom line, be patient and wait five or ten minutes and come back.  If you have this problem persisting over more than an hour or so, don't hesitate to email me and please include the identity of the internet provider you use so I can check IP addresses for issues.

Thanks

Is it just me or is the forum inconsistent in its speed.  Sometimes very slow, and sometimes almost normal?

FA:
I just noticed there is no way to modify or delete previous posts.  I was trying to change a link to a photobucket image that says is not there, and I find no way to make this change or delete the post with the nonworking link to Photobucket.  Tell me this is not a permanent situation, but only something temporary.  There have been many times in the past that I have seen something in a previous post that needs to be changed.
Please advice.

Forum speed is now related to traffic. This new software uses a LOT more processor memory than the old forum. So, when there are a lot of users, it will be slower. We are upgrading the processor to accomodate this.

Posts made by you can be modified for 3 days after posting. After that, it locks. Am exploring ways to change this feature, but still learning this software in places.  What I really want is to allow you to modify, but not delete posts. These "mass deletions" of departing users, in their snits of pique really annoy me and I would like to stop that.

Last evening and today, unfortunately, it took me five times to press on the logout, finally I was logged out. Sorry to be bothersom about this, but just thought you might like to know, in case others were having the sameness of issue. Thank you.

Ooh! I'd love that. Mass deletions bug me, too -- especially when they deprive me of information because of a argument I've had no part in. And if we can modify, we can at least take back anything we *really* regret... ;)

I have also been annoyed by references to post only to find the specific post mentioned is not there and you can't figure out what people are talking about.
The concept of modify posts and not deleting them makes sense.
No one should be allowed to "pull their posts".  By posting in the forum you are sharing your thoughts and ideas and participating in a "group" discussion.  Once you have posted they really should remain as part of the discussion forum.  If you no longer wish to participate, don't post anything new.
I hope you can work this out.

Tania,
The "Modify" and "Delete" button appear on recent post i.e. those less than three days old.

Dear Bob,

Please accept my apologies. The only reason I have deleated any post, it was because I found when I went to send a post, it for some reason duplicated the sameness of posting. I therefore deleted the duplicate post. I'm sorry if I posed a problem to the Board Members. It was not done intentionally. I did not know one had to wait three [3] days before deleting a post. My apologies again !

I also have modified a post or two, but did not know that on this, I could not modify it. Here again, it was done in error. It was not done to pull any one of my posts, or anyone else's.

The only other reason I posted here in this thread, is that I still am unable to leave without pressing the logout button four to five times each time I wish to disengage.

But, I noticed when I wished also to send a response to messages, I was met with an error message 3. something txt, or 2. something txt.

Watching extra, to make sure, I make no errors in the interim. Sorry Members, Sorry Bob !

Tania,
There is no need to apologize to me, and I did not  mean to imply that you or any specific person had deleted any posts.  I was speaking in general in reference to the FA's post:
Quote

Posts made by you can be modified for 3 days after posting. After that, it locks. Am exploring ways to change this feature, but still learning this software in places.  What I really want is to allow you to modify, but not delete posts. These "mass deletions" of departing users, in their snits of pique really annoy me and I would like to stop that.

FA

and giving him some feedback as he was trying to make decisons about how he wants the software to work.

I also think I was responding directly to a post of yours about the "Modify" or "Delete" buttons, but I don't see it here, and may have scrolled down incorrectly and should have addressed it to Grandduchessella:

Quote
I don't even have a modify button come up on my screen.  :-/

I try not to direct any criticism to any other member of the Forum and was just concerned that sometimes in a thread one or more of the main posts under discussion have been removed and it is difficult to understand what all the following correspondence is about.  I have no problem with any member removing a post if there has been no responses to it.  I do feel that once other people send their reaction, thoughts and comments about a post, ithe original post should be considered part of the thread that should not be deleted.

Please don't think I was in any way criticizing or refering to you in any critical way.

BobG

grandduchessella,
That's strange.  I have "Quote" "Modify" and "Delete" on my April 7th post.
I have only "Quote" and "Delete" on my April 5th and April 6th posts.
And only "Quote" on my March 29th post.

I'm not sure what would cause this, but you might try shutting down your computer and rebooting.  Sometimes that and deleting "cookies" might also help. Another option would be to try "Refresh" when your in the forum.

Hope one of these makes it work.

As I've written several times before what almost always works for most software bugs is:

Log OUT. Don't just close the window, click logout.
Clear your cache and cookies from your browser
Quite the browser.
Restart the browser and log back in again.

FA, I know that everyone has been harping on how slow the new site is.  It has sped up, but there are times when it takes so long to post that I'm sure those with "dial-up" could go out for coffee and come back before the posting is done.

I have broad band and I get restless waiting.

Is there anything that hasn't been done yet that could be done?????

I haven't noticed that posting takes a long time now. As I told everyone before, the only thing left we can do is upgrade the processor on the server. The new processor has been ordered and will be installed when it gets here. We are always trying to do everything we can.

If there WERE something left to try that would could try, dont you think we WOULD have?

Dear Rob and Bob -

You both should be congratulated, on an hourly basis, by all the users of this site, for all you do for us.  The manners of some folks on this site simply astounds me - Can I ask - who is paying for the software, hardware upgrades (last I knew, new processors for servers weren’t free), and your time?? - I suspect the answer is YOU TWO or Bob's Company.  I’m not aware of anyone on this site paying for these upgrades and your time – I sure haven’t.

The fact that anyone would have the kahuna's to complain about anything to do with this upgrade shows a real ignorance to the world of computing in the 21st century.  I've worked with databases and in computer support for 25 years and as near as I can see your upgrade was practically flawless.

Anyway, you don't need me to defend you, but the last post by some clod having to wait for a message to get posted frosted me.  Maybe you should make this a pay site - it could solve many, many problems (some of which, a few of us “old timers” have been complaing about for years!)

Warm regards from the northeast to both of you.

dca

ps. To those folks who disagree with what I’ve said here, save your time – flaming me will get no response…

This "clod" has been supporting and complimenting both Bob and Rob for a long time.  This "clod" has also mentioned time and time again that the cost of this site must be astronomical.   ;)

The only thing I have to say, and I usually try to stay as far away from contravercy as possible, is that since I have been recognized as a "clod", just remember, it takes one to know one.   :-*

"The manners of some folks on this site simply astounds me"????  Try looking at your own.   :o

Did you really think you wouldn't "frost" me by the nasty remarks you just made?????   ::)

I am well aware that we are guests here and that we are all grateful for the beautiful site and the freedom to use it.   :)

I simply asked a question that many have asked in the past and will surely ask again in the future.  I didn't deserve the "flaming" that you just gave me.   :-/

I would normally not fill this site with the garbage that I just had to in order to reply to a fellow "clod", I would have sent a PM, which (my fellow clod) you should have done.   ;D

FA, this is my last word on this subject.

Perhaps if you do make this a pay site (which I think you are too generous to do), then posters would not be so likely to waste their time and money insulting other posters.  That would be a good thing.    :-X

Dom,

Thank you VERY much for you supportive and kind words. Alixz was FRUSTRATED, not a clod. Trust me, this upgrade has made ME very frustrated and I know whats going on.  I"m sure that to many users, their own frustration is only made worse by being in the dark on the state of things. That is how I read what Alixz wrote.  Let's all cut each other some slack on both sides.

But, yes, you are quite correct, Bob bears the cost of this site 100% out of his own pocket. Many people have offered to help, and Bob always directs such offers to Father Markell at the Feodorovsky Sobor, who needs the assistance far more than we do.  We also have GREAT moderators who volunteer their time to help ME keep things in order, and lets not forget to THANK them hourly as well for their time and effort.

EVERY single person coming in here, believe it or not, has the POWER to either create something positive, or be negative and destroy.  Its their choice. Its YOUR (generic and not any one person specifically) choice to use your posting and words to either be positive and create, or be negative and destroy. Amazing, simple but true.

I urge each reader to ask themselves before pressing the "post" button, to review their post and see which choice they are making. The wonderful freedon of THIS place is that we allow you to MAKE that choice (so long as the negative does not cross into harmful to others).

THANK YOU ALL for making this Forum and the Alexander Palace website in the TOP one half of one percent of most visited websites in the WORLD (over 40 million choices at last count)

That fact always amazes me! When you think about the millions of websites out there, that the one that we're so proud to belong to is so well-visited is just astounding. It also helps reinforce the desire to carefully think out posts before we hit send--not just for civility's sake but also the knowledge that so many people could wind up viewing the information we put out there.

grandduchessella - you are so right!

We have to remember that this is not a private chat room and that what we post is visable to anyone and everyone.

For myself, I will apologize for any and all indescretions.

We must remember that our negative posts could give a new visiter the wrong impression of what we want to accomplish here.

This site is so valuable a learning tool.

FA, thank you for your kind words and your understanding.  To all of the moderators, thank you, too.
What you do here is amazing!

Alixz   :)

Some hard numbers on visitors just to the Forum. There is always an average of 45 people here at any given time. We average about 1,000 users a DAY, these are different users, not including some people who come back several times a day.

The Alexander Palace Main page has ONE MILLION users every month.

It is quite an understatement to say this is no private chatroom. Try to remember while posting that what you write will be read, quite literally,by tens of thousands of strangers over the next few months.

Very true, FA.

I think it's great that you are now locking posts in as permanent after 3 days. On most other boards I'm on, it's only an hour, or one day. On one board, you can edit up to an hour, but never delete. People need to know that they must take responsibility for what they say, because, like you posted, it is out there for thousands of strangers to read. Don't post anything you don't want to go on record as saying. It isn't right for people to come back and 'mass delete' everything they have said, then deny it, and accuse others of lying on them for having seen it. Everyone should have their posts locked in as permanent, and there should even be a time limit on editing. People can reconsider within the first hours or day, then it stays. This should make everyone more careful about what they say and do here.

FA   Every now and then a poster will mention something like Annie just did about making the posts permanent after so many days, or another time someone mentioned reserving space to reply --- I never know about these things and I was just wondering where this information is listed?

The new site design is killer but is the forum running painfully slow for anyone/everyone else? I saw a little prior mention here of it but none since and mine is taking far too long for serious browsing. If it's a major problem may I suggest a separate thread for it.

I saw that but I was under the impression that was fixed. At any rate my visits have been sporadic but I didn't notice any slowdown till yesterday, so I figured it was tied to the redesign somehow (afaik that just happened). At any rate I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one having problems, since I'm sure if it's 'an issue' it'll get resolved eventually.

Am I doing something wrong?
After I have visited an "Unread" posting, when I return to the homepage, the checkmark doesn't automatically update to "Read" as it used to.  I have to hit "Refresh" on my Browser toolbar, and then the arrow changes color indicating "Read."  Is there some control or preference I need to change?  Are others having this same issue?

Bob

the reason for that is the new software stores the previous page in your cache memory for faster loading, so it won't "update" unless you refresh the page or click on the home button to reload the updated page.

I just watched the film of the Feodorensky Sopor 1912.  It is wonderful :D

It kept stopping about every 3 to 5 seconds on my player.  Is it supposed to do that?

Title: Re: Welcome to the IMPROVED Forum!
Post by: Sarushka on June 12, 2006, 10:00:27 PM
Do you mean the way the screen jumps up and down, Robert?

That has to do with the little news item at the top of the screen that reads, We are saddened to annouce the death on June 7 of Nancy Leeds Wynkoop, Granddaughter of Grand Duke George Mikhailovich. The text is too wide and/or deep for some screens, which forces the banner to accomodate it by expanding every time the message pops up -- hence, the "hiccup".

I have trouble with this at work, where the screen is a standard size. On my wide-screen laptop, though, there's no problem.

Well, there's not a lot to be done. If it's really bothersome, you might ask FA to remove the "Welcome to the new and improved Alexander Palace Discussion Forum!" message, since it's the switching between the two items actually that causes the jolt.

The reason the forum is so slow is that it is a pearl-based forum and with 230,000 messages and so many users that programming language just can't handle the load.  In the next few days Walt is planning to move us to a PHP forum that should solve the problem.  He is already testing it.  It looks like it has lots of new features that we haven't had before.
