Title: Prince Albrecht of Prussia (1809-72),his family and descendants
Post by: Svetabel on April 12, 2006, 12:32:04 PM
I am searching for any info on Princess Agatha of Prussia, born Hohenlohe-Schillingfurst (1888-1960)
She married Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia (1880-1925), 3d son of Prince Albrecht and Princess Marie  (of Saxe-Altenburg).
The couple had 4 daughters:
Marie Theresa,Louise, Marianne and Elisabeth.

It seems that very little is known about this branch of the Hohenzollerns, at least about this couple and their daughters. Have anybody ever seen any pics of them? Of Agatha and her husband?

Thanks in advance.

Here´s an article about there daughter Princess Marie Therese (1911-2005), who married Rudolf Hug in 1932, with whom she had 11 children. She was the last living member of the Albrecht-branch.

Hello :)

Does anyone know if Princess Agatha was Protestant or Catholic?

I think the Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst were Catholic...

And another question - was the marriage of Agatha and Friedrich Wilhelm equal?
Title: Re: Prince Albrecht of Prussia (1809-72),his family and descendants
Post by: Marc on April 15, 2006, 07:50:36 PM
I think it was equal since Hohenlohe's were one of the oldest noble families of The Holy Roman Empire connected with all other ruling families(on one way or another) and were considered ''good enough'' for Hohenzollern family(mother of Empress Augusta Victoria was a Hohenlohe)!

Yes , I know that Dona's mother was Hohenlohe Princess. But she was Langenburg, not Schillingfurst, and a niece of Queen Victoria.  Agatha did not have such PERFECT family relations I guess.

I think it has been considered equal since Friedrich Wilhelm was not heir to the throne,Hohenlohe's were by the facts considered equal since they had that right of equal birth as they were mediatized and Agatha's cousin was(I think) Cancelor and well respected among all royals...so,all the facts leed us to think that it really was an equal marriage...but,you might never know!

Hello Everyone -

Apparently, Prince Friedrich Wilhelm first asked permission to marry a certain Countess Paula von Lehndorff, but gave her up when Emperor Wilhelm II told him that a morganatic marriage would mean giving up his title.

A few years later, Friedrich Wilhelm was granted permission to marry the royal, but catholic Princess Agatha after her father promised the Emperor a protestant marriage ceremony and the protestant upbringing of future children.

A daughter of Prince Albrecht of Prussia and unfortunate Princess Marianne of Netherlands.

Princess Alexandrine of Prussia ( 1 February 1842 - 26 March 1906), married in 1865 to Wilhelm Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin,2nd son of Grand Duke Paul Friedrich of Mecklenbourg-Schwerin. They had one daughter Charlotte (1868-1942), who married firstly Heinrich XVIII Prince Reuss zu Köstritz and secondly Robert Schmidt.

I read in one of the numerous books of Princess Radziwill that Duchess Alexandrine was unhappy in her marriage and quickly  separated  from her husband: she lived  in Berlin with her daughter. Any additional info and pictures on Duchess and of course her daughter are welcomed ;  ))

Here's a thread on Alexandrine's mother (with some pics of Alexandrine and her daughter Charlotte):

I wonder who was that certain Countess Paula von Lehndorff? :)

I just saw your post...it was Countess Paula von Lehndorff who lived from 1889-1931...Her father was Count Heinrich von Lehndorff and her mother Countess Margarethe von Kanitz...she had perfect aristocratic ancestry-almost no commoners, but not nearly "equal"...her nearest almost equal ancestors were Counts zu Dohna-Schlobitten and Dohna-Lauck...she is also descendant of Eulenburg,Dönhoff,Schmettau families as well as descendant of Martin von Wallenrodt, who was Chancellor of Prussia...One interesting fact is that she is also descendant of von Rüdiger family, family of late Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow...

She married in 1916,being already pregnant with her first child, Baron or rather Freiherr Gisbert von Innhausen und Knyphausen zu Kalittken(1882-1949) and is now ancestor of some members of Rantzau family...

Interesting fact that this unremarkable Princess and Duchess tried to derail engagement of GD Vladimir Romanov and his future wife Duchess Marie of Mecklenbourg-Schwerin,niece of Alexandrine's husband.
"Adi" -  her nickname in the family-   when Vladimir meet Marie aka Miechen first time in Berlin in 1872 was very glad about their feelings to each other, but when Vladimir returned home, talked seriously to his parents about Duchess Marie and had their consent, a telegram arrived from Adi. She begged Vladimir to give up his plans of marrying Marie as her niece loved another man and couldn't be GD's wife...Poor heart-broken Vladimir rushed to Alexander II, who sent a message to Marie's father that their children's alliance was out of question.
After some time all the party learned by surprise that Adi sent that telegram by her own accord and the Mecklenbourg clan didn't know anything about that! Marie of course didn't know either and refusal of the Romanovs was a blow for her.
After that Emperor Wilhelm I gave Adi a piece of his mind (mildly speaking!) and the misunderstanding was over. Anyway only in 1874 Vladimir could engage his beloved Marie.

Obviously Adi had her own reasons to push her nose into the Romanovs affairs, they said she wanted marry Marie to some relative - Reuss (Marie's mother was a Reuss) or Rudolstadt (relative of Marie's stepmother) but Adi itself didn't explain her behavior and played it cool.

"Adi's" aunt was Queen Anna Pavlovna, spouse of Princess Mariannes brother king Willem II.
There was no love lost between this Queen and most members of the RF of the day, least of
all between Marianne and her.Marianne divorced,Marianne supported her father against the will
of her siblings and whatever they married while Anna loathed her for this too.
The streak by Adi to try and derail a marriage between Miechen and Wladimir might be seen as
an act against the family of the pain Anna was to family members of the dutch RF here.
Call it sort of "pay back time"...Wilhelm I of Prussia  might have given her a piece of her mind, but
as her mothers daughter she wasn't impressed by any of it.
