The Greek Royal Family / Re: Greek Royal Orders & Regalia
« on: May 10, 2015, 06:20:48 AM »
I just noticed for the first time after watching the documentary Pavlos No Ordinary King (awesome !btw) that HM King Pavlos wore on a couple of his uniforms what looked to me a duplication of orders so i started thinking that they might have been the same order but Different classes (just awarded at different times) worn on bar across his chest on his Various uniforms.  When i went back to find some pictures of them to see if i could blow them up to get a better picture i noticed that HM King George II and Constantine II also wear (what to me looks like some of the same orders just different grade badges).  I know they are not all the same just one or two.

Anyone know if someone was granted a lower grade of say The Redeemer  , and then upon becoming the Sovereign of the Order would they still wear the lower grade badge on the bar with their others?  You can't really tell from these pictures but the delazlo is a good picture and the book that comes with the new documentary has some pretty good close ups and they do look similar ..?

ok apparently i will have to go back and post from another laptop, i can't figure out how to post from my new mac :(

But here is an example of what i'm talking about with HM King Pavlos

you also have to admit and ADMIRE HM Queen Sofia for proudly wearing her Greek Order for Karmarlis's state Visit to Spain in (84 I think) to plainly remind him what he owed her Parents.

The Greek Royal Family / The Fate of the Dynasty

In the new Documentary on King Paul one guy and i don't know who he is (?) states that had king paul  lived 10 more years the fate of the  Dynasty would have been different.  Anyone else have any statements to that effect?

Actual constructive comments please..  NO bashing of the Royal House please.

Personally, and this is my opinion, the Kings of the Hellenes have always been the scapegoat for crooked and selfish politicians.  King George navigated it pretty well but after his assination the Greek Politicians had , had almost 50 years to get their groundwork.  When King Constantine ascended the throne, they thought he was going to be a cipher, they thought wrong.  Both Queen Sophie and King George II were much maligned because
1.) Sophie was born a princess of Prussia  and was british at heart
2.) King George II, was trained with the Prussian Military
but King Constantine excercising his Perogatives and ya he stretched it but he was correct .

King Alexander said it best (or this quote was atributed to him) When brought to his attention that he Signed a document without reading it he quickly replied back "My father read first and then signed and he's in exile, my grandfather signed first and then read , and he died a King".

ok long story short is what i am asking everyone is do you think if King Constantine II had been a little older and more experienced how things might have been diferent.  King Paul seemed to be very adept at handling the politicians and IMO was a great example of a Modern Constitutional Monarch.

2.) Do you think in 60 years time history will exhonerate the Glucksborg dynasty in Greece as the Truth comes to light?

I think Queen Marie also stated in her book (now it's been a while since i read it) but she blamed a lot of the Personality deficiencies on Queen Elisabeth, and all the interference she caused with both King Carol II, & and HRH Princess Elisabeth (later queen of greece).   That being said, I think HM Queen Helen did an awesome job raising HM the King the way she did.  The Fact that the King hasn't publicly berated or trashed his late father says a lot about his own character.    HM the King said it best to his grandmother : "I have learned not to say what I feel, and to smile at those I most hate."  In every picture with Carol, you always see Michael Smiling.

IMO, also the fact that Iuliu Maniu made Carol grant Helen the title of Her Majesty The Queen but carol changed it to Her Majesty Helen, and then became punitive with her b/c she would not oppose the Governments decision to annul the divorce.  The Gvt of the day imo showed that HM Queen Helen was in a lot more favor that Carol.

I came across a Statement made by Count Ingolf at some point about His father and His Uncle only talking once  after the Constitutional change of 1953 and that things remained estranged till both men died.  Also, that Queen Ingrid and HRH Caroline M.  were estranged b/c of it as well but that they did resolve/make up before their respective deaths.  My question is does anyone know / or have read if Princess Elisabeth was part of the fued?   She seems to be on good terms with HM The Queen?.

anyone ever seen anything that shows Either Minnie or Alix has the Order of the Elephant?  I came across a site that said she received it upon birth but i'm not sure that is correct.  Minnie wasn't even a Princess of Denmark when she was born.   I couldn't find any pictures either ..  I found a list of all appointments to the order by Reign (monarch) but I do not know how accurate it was.  This list showed that Queen Louise received it in 1902?..

I Know my problem is finding any books that are in English.  I've went on Amazon, B&Noble, etc.. and none seem to have any books on the Bernadotte's.

Anyone have any ideas on where to find any in English?

the statement that King Paul spoke NO greek is ludicrous.  He use to Broadcast to the Greek People during WWII when he was with the Greek Gvt in exile from Cairo and London.
i will have to go back through my book but i have read that they spoke German after they married b/c The Queen Didn't know greek yet.  I can't find the Source Right now but I emailed the webmaster at the Greek ROyal Website so maybe I will get an answer. just fyi .. King George I spoke Greek, Danish, English, German and French and would often in mid conversation switch from 1 to the other depending on who was present.  on 3/18/1913 "he told his sons in English (which none of the Greek officers present understood that in october he would celebrate his Golden Jubilee and that he would take advantage of that and abdicate".  ("Kings of Hellenes by John Van Der Kiste , page 74).  Also, Queen Frederica ,In her book, she says she spoke German and English to Pavlos, German in person and English over the phone and in letters. She also states that they spoke Greek to the children,  However, Sofia's German is flawless and her English has a German accent, so I think that's the language she heard from her mother as a little girl.
also, just FYI, there are tons of Youtube Videos of HM King Constantine II, HM Queen Sophia, and HRH PRincess Irine speaking Fluent Greek on Youtube so just throwing that out there.

At 2 different Nobel dinners--the necklace she's wearing in both belonged to CPss Margaret. The necklace, by Koch, is composed of ruby, sapphire, diamond and pearls, is decorated with scarabs. It was a gift from Gustaf V and Queen Victoria of Sweden to their daughter-in-law Margaret of Connaught on her wedding day. Daisy and Gustav became engaged after meeting in Egypt--the scarabs might be inspired by that meeting and country.

i LOVE this picture!!

The cabinet announced that regardless of the sex of the child it would follow it's father in the line of succession.  King George's Letters Patent state that The Eldest son of the Eldest SON of the Prince of Wales would be entitled to HRH otherwise if its a girl it would be Lady ********* Windsor.  I'm pretty sure though that HM would issue new Letters Patent IMO

IMO HM THE QUEEN favors HM Queen Mary, but if you look at the pic of HM the King above giving his first speech, anyone else think that HM the Queen has her grandfathers Eyes?

i want to see Queen Alexandra Diamond Wedding Parure The Rundell Diamond Parure............ It hasn't been worn since Queen Alix Died.  And IMO I think it would be ok for THE duchess of Cambridge to wear the CAmbridbe Lovers Tiara,   EVEN better, they need to get Queen VICtoria's Sapphire and Diamond Tiara back into the Royal family is classic/not too gawdy, designed by HRH the prince consort, and it would match HRH the duchess's ring.  that's the perfect solution.... just get it back.. The Earl of Harewood should donate it back lol afterall since HM was sooo generous with her consent and his marrital difficulties lol
