The Windsors / Re: Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York

The various judgements and opinions around here about Sarah Ferguson have nothing to do with hypocrisy, since you do not know anything about the private lives of any posters. It has nothing to do with curtain twitching either. Sarah Ferguson has made so many mistakes, the list is endless, so the negative judgements (none of which are prudishness) expressed by many posters about her are valid.

Yes that's true. And the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital was named after him, which is one of the biggest hospitals in Australia.

Yes absolutely!  :) By 1892, he had received a lot more training than George and G. coped fine when his turn came, as E. would have.

Yes, her sister was never really seen in public, not with Kate at least, and not in the press, until after the split.
KM studied art history. Maybe she has an interest in Stalin ??? but it is a social appearance. But if that is what she wants to do, then I suppose there is nothing wrong with that, she is entitled to choose that path.

Burrell is constantly cashing in on his former royal connections. Look at his new brand of wine!  ::)
H and C do look quite in love. Still, I can's stand Chelsy's fashion sense!

The writer of the film Peter Morgan really puzzles me.They say he wrote a sympatheic potrayal of HM the Queen, during that terrible time in 1997 when Her Majesty looked really bad.Alot of people say that he made her and makes her look good in this film and it's script. But during his acceptance speech in the Golden Globes Awards Ceremony he called her a"stubborn old lady"Which is downright disrespectful and disgusting. With that comment he seems to say what many of Her Majesty's detractors keep saying about her whenever the Diana subject comes up.Is Mr. Morgan one of those anti-Monarchists?

Maybe he wrote the script to make a very good and successful film, telling a story in this particular way, sympathetic to the Queen. Perhaps in his speech he let his true feelings show, and showed a lack of respect? Or perhaps as others said, he did not mean ''stubborn old lady'' in a bad way. Still, my first impression of that phrase, is not favourable, it sounds disrespectful to me.

As for Philip calling the Queen ''cabbage'', I would like to know where that came from? He would only call her that rarely I'm sure!

Well...Busmark did call Dona "the cow from Holstein".  ;)

Yes and I think that was based more on political opinions, rather than her actual looks. But a horrible thing to say, she was not a cow at all.

Not to get off topic, but wasn't that title last given to the infant son of James II (then Duke of York) and Anne Hyde?

Yes their fifth child, Prince Charles was Duke of Kendal, he was also Earl of Wigmore, Baron Holdenby. Their other three sons, James, Edgar and another Charles, were all Dukes of Cambridge.

and he was quite old.

35!  I had better run out and see if my cemetery has any plots available!

I think you mean in reference to Helena's age. The fact that he was prematurely aged made it seem even greater than the 15 year difference. But I think in those days that wasn't really all that unusual. Their age difference was the biggest, but Fritz/Vicky 9 years, Louis/Alice 6 years, Affie/Marie 9 years, Bertie/Alix and Lorne/Louise only 3 years, Arthur/Louise 10 years, Leo/Helen 8 years, and Beatrice not only got her love, but he was 1 1/2 years younger.

I think w/Helena and Christian it may have been more affection on her part, as he may have saw it as a step up and possibly something to do. But 51 years, so they must have done something right.
[/quote]

Yes, I meant older compared to Helena. And yes he was prematurely aged, and that made him seem old. I was thinking of a photo of him with his two little girls, and he looks like their grandfather.

I could see the relevance of a Kate Middleton thread when she was dating Prince William, but now that we know for sure she's not going to be the future queen, what's the point of posting about her this royals forum? Maybe some people are interested, but surely there are "next big thing in fashion" forums somewhere. She was the girlfriend of a royal at one time, but she's not anymore. Or maybe I should just open up threads for Koo Stark and Sabrina Guiness?  ???

Well I think you could open up threads for them if you wanted to Taren.
The point of posting about her in this royals forum, is I think, that some people who are interested in Prince William may be interested in what his very recently ''ex'' girlfriend is DOING, not wearing. It was Scarlett who gave the fashion commentary, not me. Not that there is anything wrong with the fashion commentary at all. If everyone here has NO interest in KM, I guess I won't feel like I should post NEWS articles about her. As for the relevance of the thread, perhaps it should be closed, the moderator can decide.

Quote
and so her style kind of matters (erhmm...to me? lol). After all, she works in the fashion industry, and some young girls perhaps look at her as some kind of fashion inspiration.  Smiley
I wish she'd accept the job offered by Tom Ford! (If it is indeed true that he made such an offer.)

Her style doesn't matter much to me. However it is mildy interesting. After all, this is someone who apparently came CLOSE to being William's bride, well it seemed that way. I certainly don't look at her as some kind of fashion inspiration, and I am not a young girl, if you are refering to me.  ??? I honestly don't think KM would accept the job in the USA with Tom Ford, if it was offered to her, as she would be leaving behind her fame in Britain which surely it is clear she enjoys, and also she would be leaving behind her family and social circle etc.

Quote
why this obession with someone who is no longer even in the "royal circle?  What difference could it possibly make in anyone's life, except perhpas her own, WHAT she wears? Paris Hilton is at least going to jail to make her tlife newsworthy. Kate Middleton's dress & boots seem rather iirrerelvent

Really if you had any perspicacity, you would see that I am not focused on "WHAT" she wears. It was Scarlett who commented on her clothes, etc. There is nothing wrong with that either. If you are so UNITERESTED, don't read the thread, no one is forcing you to. I am NOT obsessed with KM, far from it. It makes no difference in my life what she is wearing, I just posted some NEWS articles about her which I saw, and there is NOTHING wrong with doing so. And by the way, your pathetic insult is rather a description of yourself, rather than having anything to do with me.

Obviously many people are interested in KM, including in what she wears, since she gets so much press attention. There is no harm in it.

Quote
So she's a major partyphile now, hey? lol. Good on her. She is better off as an IT Girl than a queen.

And omg I want to read that book.

I agree Kate, as an individual is better off as a so-called it girl, than a Queen, because it suits her more. However, the position of Queen is infinitely greater, for those who are suited to it!
You want to read the book on Stalin? When I saw KM there, I thought, what on earth does she have to do with Stalin?  ???
But I guess she was going for the social opportunity and to support her friend perhaps.  :-\

Thanks for the compliment Eddieboy_uk! I'm very new to the forum so it's good to hear things like that!
As for Sophie, she is one of my absolute favorites. I don't know if you've read Born to Rule, but that's what sparked my interest (it includes great photos too). Sophie was an extraordinary woman who really did have some struggles. It was the Vicky in her that kept her going. ;)

I wonder what you like about Queen Charlotte, MR, for her to be one of your favourites? She seems a bit mean to me in what I have read of her.

Well it is the way fate ended up making it, however Eddy was born the right man to follow his father. I really think Eddy could have done just as good a job leading his country firmly through WW1, he was a good man too!

Where did you get that tan, Miss Middleton?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=454147&in_page_id=1770

She may have spent the week at work, but Kate Middleton looks more like she's been lazing on a banana lounge.

Prince William's ex sported an exotic tan when she arrived at London nightclub Mahiki ready for another night out.

Middleton seems to be working overtime to make her post break-up appearance especially head-turning.

Kate really loves a good knees-up

The 25-year-old hasn’t taken her foot off the gas since splitting from William last month, regularly partying with friends at the captial's most exclusive night spots.

But she had better be careful she doesn’t bump into him - Mahiki is a favourite haunt of William, too.

One person she may have encountered on her night out, however, is Mischa Barton, who was also at the Mayfair club.

Kate Middleton and sister Pippa paint the town red - with Stalin
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=455023&in_page_id=1770

Prince William's former girlfriend Kate Middleton was a surprise guest at the launch of Simon Sebag Montefiore's 'Young Stalin' at Asprey.

Many hoped her presence might signify a graduation from nightclubs to book launch parties. Middleton with her younger sister Pippa.

Other guests, including Sebag Montefiore's sister-in-law Tara Palmer Tomkinson and historians Paul Johnson, Andrew Roberts and Antony Beevor, sipped Margaritas.

Novelist Philip Kerr speculated what British football team Stalin might buy if he were alive today - and thought it would have to have the colour red in it to enable Stalin to differentiate himself from oligarch Roman Abramovich.

Kerr favoured Arsenal. Guests were amazed by the sight of an unidentified snogging couple. Happily, we can report it wasn't Kate Middleton.

Has losing Wills driven Kate to take up smoking?
Prince William's ex, hard-partying Kate Middlton, appears to have taken up a new habit - smoking

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=455703&in_page_id=1773

Kate Middleton may not be a royal in waiting any longer, but she's quickly developing a reputation as a princess - of partying.

The 25-year-old has been a regular at her favourite London night spots since splitting from Prince William, but that's not her only new habit - she appears to have taken up smoking.

Kate Middleton was out on the town for another night of partying

An open packet of cigarettes were stashed in her handbag

During a yet another night out at London's Boujis, Middleton was caught with a packet of cigarettes peeping out of her handbag.

Middleton, who made sure her behaviour was always fit for a Queen during her courtship with William, has clearly dropped her guard - and squeaky clean image.

It was a girl's night for Middleton, who arrived with her sister Pippa, and actresses Mischa Barton and Anna Friel also made a show at the club.

The accessory buyer for fashion chain Jigsaw looked stylish in a monochrome print dress cinched in by a thick belt and a black cardigan.

The younger Middleton opted for something more colourful, a coral and cream patterned wrap dress.

No doubt the girls were keeping an eager eye the crowd that night - both are single.

Pippa, a 22-year-old Edinburgh University student, split from her wealthy aristocratic boyfriend JJ Jardine Patterson in April after more than three years together.

It came just a week after the shock news that Middleton had parted ways with Prince William after almost five years of dating.

Middleton's party pal for the night was sister Pippa

I think Kate is looking quite gaunt. She is clearly showing herself now to not be future Queen material.

Chelsy is 'thrilled' at Harry's Iraq ban

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=456328&in_page_id=1770&ico=Homepage&icl=TabModule&icc=picbox&ct=5

Prince Harry may have been devastated to learn he would not be serving on the front line in Iraq - but at least one person has taken the news well.

Chelsy Davy was "thrilled" to learn Army chiefs had banned her 22-year-old boyfriend from the war zone for fear it would be too dangerous.

She gave away her feelings on a page on social networking website Facebook only accessible to her friends.

Chelsy Davy was 'thrilled' to learn Army chiefs had banned her 22-year-old boyfriend from the war zone for fear it would be too dangerous

On Wednesday, the day it was announced that Harry would not go to Iraq, she changed the caption under her picture to read:"Thrilled!!!'

Chelsy, 21, has been consoling Harry, who is said to be "furious and deeply disappointed" he has not been allowed to command his armoured troop.

Army chiefs have given him a fortnight to "decompress" and get over his anger.

The besotted beauty had just splashed out £20,000 on a diamond encrusted Jacob & Co watch as a going-away present before Harry was to set off for Iraq.

The designer watches, which are favoured by the likes of David Beckham, P Diddy, Madonna and JLo, are renowned for their brightly coloured faces and sparkling diamonds all around the rim.

We’re told Harry, 22, has yearned for one of the celeb accessories for quite a while and Chelsy was ready to surprise him with the gift on their last night together before he flies out to the war zone for six months.
