From memory

The bulk of the allowances that George V paid to the Grand Duchess Xenia and the Empress Dowager would come from what then would have been regarded as private income. Certainly the property that she occupied seems to have been maintained at what now might be regarded public expense (althout at that time the board of public works would have had responsibility for all these occupied Royal buildings) - it seems that as a grace and favour resident even then it was practice for people to pay for any works done however the King made it explicit that he didn't want the Grand Duchess bothered with such matters and one assumes he picked up the costs.

Hi all,
From memory,
Prince Michael Andreevich told me that King George V privately supported his grandmother (GD Xenia) and family when he was a child, and as he and his siblings grew they had to make their way in the world, hence his training in aeronautics/aircraft, and moving to Australia after WW2.

My consort had met her as a child. She certainly possessed all the public relations attributes that fit a queen! (unlike her husband who, even as a king, could hardly speak the language of his subjects).

never in all my life heard of king paul unable to speek greek! do we have any proof for this?

I ont think its Queen Frederica who uttered the statement Eric,(unlike her husband etc), someone else said it.

All parents teach their children their native tongue.
This is just maicious rumour mongering.
Kiing Konstantines children had been educated by some of the best people in Athens, and all the boys had served as military cadets in all the services. It is IMPOSSIBLE for them to not be able to speak the language properly.

That is the most ludicrous thing I have ever read. Ther is numerous audio(s) of His Majesty speaking perfect Greek.

I believe he reaquainted himself with Greek, and the reason being to his and Prince Charles' highly private trips to Mt. Athos.

It was reported that the palace did not want to burden young Katherine with legacy of the title of Princess of Wales, which is indelibly linked to Diana, Princess of Wales.  Also, my understanding is that the Queen, being the font of honors, may request that the Dukedom of Cambridge be bestowed on her grandchild Prince William and his wife.

Firstly,
Her Majesty doesent need to request anything to anyone to bestow a title to anyone.
Secondly,
It is my understanding that Prince William will become Duke and hence his  bride will be known as HRH Princess Katherine, Duchess of ??????

The traditional dress' the ladies are wearing look like Northern Greek.
Perhaps Makedonoa or Thrace?

You are most welcome Royal Watcher.
Carisbrooke, Europe has a lot of problems at the moment, any opportunity for the extremists to vent their anger will be taken advantage of.

The protestors just saw a target of opportunity.
The security detail failed to properly reconnoiter the route prior to the commencement of the "move".(ie half an hour)
Probably because they had done it 1000 times before.
There was obviously a break down in communication between the security detail and the incident commander.
The Prince and the Duchess should never have been in that old clunker.
The uniform police who wedged themselves between the car and the kids performed admirably but slowly, they probably didnt even know the cortege was coming through.
The detail commander will probably be sacked, as the actual head of the protection team.
Prince Charles handled himself admirably, the Duchess like any other scared woman who has just been poked in the ribs by a stick through a broke window.
My main concern is what will happen in the future when the situation gets worse, what will these angry kids, and their left wing agitators do??
By the way, that guitarist's  son was using the Union Jack as a rope to climb the statue, he doesent seem to have much respect for his Nation does he?

It may have something to do with Prince Phillip vowing to never return to Greece until the Monarchy has been restored.
Perhaps its one of those vows that travel generations?
And before anyone says anything, Mt Athos is not included in this point

No its not Rob, have a closer look, it's much lighter than the painting/wall behind the grand duchess(is it Anastasia?)
The actual head of the apparition is  above ASnastsasi's head and the shoulders drape on either side of her seated body.
It's very strange.
