Books about the Romanovs and Imperial Russia / Re: Duplicate Books
« on: April 13, 2014, 12:37:22 PM »

Aloha all:

I realised that "Laura's" post was from awhile ago - haven't heard back from her so I wanted to say that I have a large coffee table size paperback of Peter Kurth's "The World of Nicholas and Alexandra - TSAR" to trade - very good condition - heavy book!

Please let me know here or via PM if you have a trade and would like this book.

Aloha all!

Once more, thank you a million times Tatiana Z for these amazing photos!  So many new treasures here, each one opening the window just a little more into the lives and personalities of these people that we all are so fascinated by!

Oh, and I hope they are not poking at a frog with their walking sticks, parasols in that one photo!  It doesn't look like they are actually touching it, whatever it might be!

The one of the Grand Duchesses almost in a stance as if getting ready to run a race is particularly wonderful!

Thank you again!

Aloha all!

That video is so fascinating, altho' I don't understand Russian, one can easily see the amazing staircase, tilework in toilet room and those servants passageways!

So Nicholas II's bathroom that we have seen some photos of (partial photos)....the big bathtub that the Grand Duchesses "swam" in sometimes was in that area in the family area....and the stairs would have taken Nicholas down to his private toilet room?  I remember something about GD Anastasia writing that she was using his "WC"....so I picture her trooping down those stairs to the lovely tiled room for that purpose.

Interesting, because as has been said, we have never seen a WC in the bathroom of Nicholas in photos before to my knowledge.

That is so amazing....all that sitting there untouched all these years....to be discovered now and in such good condition!  Wonderful!

Aloha all!

I feel like a kid waiting for Santa Claus....everyday I listen for the mailman outside and go out to grab the mail as soon as I hear it....hoping that my copy will be there.

So far no go, but I do live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, so I guess I'm getting it a little later than some of the other folks who pre ordered also on the mainland.

One of the very few times I feel at a disadvantage to folks on the mainland I must say!  LOL

Anticipation is kind of fun though!  :)

Aloha all!

I agree Helen....I definitely think that the "average" American browsing books would need to have it spelled out a bit more than our European counterparts...JMO.

I have ordered the U.K. version thru the Amazon U.K. site because that is my favorite cover, but I will ultimately end up ordering the American one as well I feel sure.  I'm just that nerdy!

Having Fun! / Re: How Do YOU Organize Your Photo Collection?
« on: November 21, 2013, 01:22:07 AM »

Aloha all!

I've been collecting Romanov photos for, maybe 10 years or so now?  I'm afraid my system is based on when I acquired the photo which is another way of saying I really have no system.

What I do have that I love however is a digital frame.....you can put a ton (!!!) of photos on a card and put that in the frame....I have one in the cabinet where my TV is and it goes for 24 hours....I never turn it off.  It is entirely Romanov photos and I am continually updating it with the "new" photos!

I find myself looking at it quite frequently....... it relaxes me also and helps me to sleep sometimes.  I like falling asleep thinking of OTMAA!

I need to organize my photos, but at this point it seems hopeless!

Aloha all!

Yes, I certainly want to add my huge thanks to you for sharing these "new to me" photos.....it never fails to amaze me how many photos there are, and that are still being found apparently.  That family was a group of shutterbugs, thankfully!

Each photo seems to add just a little more to our "insight" (or perceived insight) into each of their lives and personality.....it is like seeing them anew for just a minute.

Thank you so very much for this!

Aloha all!

I just got my notice today from Amazon that I should have it by November 26th (and I live in Hawai'i!).....so I cannot wait for my copy!!

This is one I've been looking forward to for a very long time indeed.....as have others I know!

Aloha all!

Well, at .99 for a Kindle copy, I decided to shell it out...even I can afford that!

I haven't started it yet, but it looks like a...."quick read" at first glance.

It would have to go a far way to be as bad as "The Tsarina's Daughter" by Carrolly Erickson.....that was so bad I put it down after just a couple chapters!  And I paid for the hard back copy!  THAT made me mad!  LOL

Aloha all!

Thank you very much "Grand Duchess Kassy"......for some reason my computer did not like that first link!  LOL

Appreciate it.....such a wonderful photo, and now we have the photo of GD Maria triumphantly standing in the middle by the swan.....question answered!

These new photos are so wonderful, along with everyone else, let me say a huge "thank you" to "Tatiana Z" for sharing with us!

Aloha!

"Grand Duchess Kassy".......do you have another link for the one under your comment "I love the look on Tatiana's face in this photo"......the one you gave told me that my computer had blocked a virus that was associated with that link.....I tried it 3 times and got the same warning.

Might there be another link to that so I could view the photo please?  Thanks!

Aloha!

Ordered the ebook that Helen Azar wrote entitled "The Last Romanovs, in their Own Words" for my Kindle yesterday and had it delivered.

Wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Romanovs, or as a companion book for Helen's upcoming book as well!

So exciting!

Aloha all!

I "borrowed" this book on my Kindle as part of my Amazon prime membership (aka: free).....it was pretty bad.....after I read about Nicholas keeping his "mistress" Princess Sonya Orbeliani at the palace for so called easy access....that is when I put it down I'm afraid.

Granted I only read the first 3/4 chapters....but that was enough for me to give a solid thumbs down....unless you also can read it for free and want a laugh.
