It's a wonderful pic, I have never seen it before...with this pic one can Maria imagine as a loving and caring mother looking down on her sleeping child...

Only the eye colour is wrong...but a very sweet painting nevertheless.

Absolutely new for me and simply wonderful. You can even see Maria's gap between her teeth! And I love beautiful Olga here. Only a little pity that we can't see Anastasia who seems to be behind her sisters.

Olga Nicholaievna / Who did Olga resemble?

I' ve always asked myself who resembled Olga and today I found her somehow melancholic gaze in a picture of her greatgrandmother Louise of Denmark...

Both were called the beauties of the familiy but in a different way. Whereas Tatiana was the exotic beauty, Maria was said to be more "a typicall russian beauty".

Yes :) I don't think Olga had meant any harm to her sister but - if you see her  stubborn, strongwilling and somehow "revolting" character - it is maybe more an implicit rejection which she could not really controll. That is - as I said - just my thought (and sorry if I do offend somebody with this)

The Windsors / Re: Princess Royal, Princess Anne

I think first in line are always sons and their children. The princess royal's position was heir to the throne just if the king had no surviving sons. Here's the difference between England and for example Russia. If Nikolai wouldn't have had any sons the throne wouldn't have pass to Olga but to his brothers, uncles and so on...in England the throne is always given to the children of the king, jisst that sons are favored:)

I could imagine that Olga was maybe somehow jealous. Maria was still happy, living her life, having admirers and was still very young. Olga was at this time 22. For the time around 1918 she was old, slowly loosing her appeal as a bride while she could not tell if or when the capture will have an end. Maybe she got the feeling for being "too old for living her life" when she will be released. Thats just a thought of mine.

Talking about similarities, I read once that T and M had in common their love for "womenly things" such as gowns, perfumes, and so on.
But i really can't remember where i read it, so my source is not sure at all - i'm sorry for that. I started being interested in the Romanovs when i was just 12: i have all the infos in my head, but i don't remember the exactly sources, after 12 years... and some of my Romanov books were lost when my granny's house went on fire 10 years ago, so sometimes i just can't find my info in my books - and i think i'm crazy and i've dreamt them in the night  :D

That sounds evident for me if we have a look on their diaries. I have always thought that Olga and Anastasia were more the "boyish" ones of OTMA. I've even red (don't know if it was from Alix diary) that for Anastasia it was just a little "mistake" of nature and she actually should have been a boy.

And blessOTMA you are right: they look like queens. Better: they look like new "versions" of Tsarevnas Maria Alexandrovna and Marie Feodorvna

It would be interesting - even if discussed a bit in "Tatiana with Maria pictures" - what they really did have in common, if letters quote something about their relationship or their thoughts of each other or if there is something special about the most "unknown pair of OTMA"

If I have a look at Alexis - and I know children by that age - I would say he is around 2 - 3 years old. Not older and not younger. So it must be around 1906 - 1907.

Here is the family tree of the Laborde de Monpezat.

http://www.wargs.com/royal/laborde.html

I couldn't find any Vincent so the name is maybe given just to "touch" the french side.

14
Actually the name is mostly given in France and Malta and I am really curious how this name find it's way into a danish royal house...hopefully we get an answer soon.

The Danish Royal Family / Re: Royal Twins named what do you think?

Poor kid.

I don't think you can call him a "poor kid" just because of the name. There are names which are even worse. In my opinion Vincent is very fitting for a prince and it sounds more harmonic in my ears as Knud  :)
