Nicholas II / Nicholas and his father
« on: January 18, 2010, 03:43:58 PM »
Hey, everyone,

I have been wanting to verify a reference that Count Witte made in regards to Nicholas II, when he was still tsarevich.
The story, that most of you have probably heard, is that Witte suggested to Alexander III about having Nicholas on the committee to help build the Trans-Siberian railway, and Alexander III said: "What do you even know the tsarevich?"
I have thought that this quote was in Count Witte's memoirs, but I have been unable to find it there.  I am wondering if someone can tell me the source of the quote--regardless of whether or not you agree with Alexander III or Count Witte?

The Final Chapter / Colonel Kobylinsky

I don't have Massie's book in front of me, and even if I did it might not answer this question, but whatever became of Colonel Kobylinsky?  Anyone have any answers?

Nicholas II / 122 year old soldier, Nicholas mentions
« on: July 28, 2007, 03:37:44 PM »
Greetings!  I was wondering if any of you knew anything about the 122 sergeant major, that survived the Battle of Borodino, whom Nicholas II mentions in a letter Grand Duke Konstantin Romanov on September 14, 1912?  I've tried to look up information on this soldier, and all I can find is the reference from Nicholas' letter.  It would seem to me that a survivor of that battle, that was alive at the 100th anniversary, would have more written about him.

Take care,

Nicholas II / Nicholas II and Vladimir Lenin
« on: May 09, 2007, 04:29:44 PM »
Greetings, everyone!

This is my first post here, so we'll see if I make this an interesting topic or not.  I've been curious to know, for quite a while, if Lenin--after the Bolshevik take over in 1917--ever once had a desire to confront Tsar Nicholas face-to-face?  Or if Nicholas, after Lenin took over, ever had a desire to meet Lenin face-to-face?
