CARLO EMANUELE I

Born to Emanuele Filiberto and Margherita di Valois in Rivoli in 1562, Carlo Emanuele rose to the throne in 1580. Like his father he was ambitious and full of vitality. However, while Emanuele Filiberto spent his energy on governing, Carlo Emanuele spent his energy on creating sumptuous grandeur and competing in terms of splendour with the most prestigious foreign courts. In 1585, he fell in love and married Caterina, daughter of the King of Spain, Filippo II.

Born in 1759, the second-born son of Vittorio Amedeo III and Maria Antonietta di Borbone-Spagna. From 1793 to 1796 he took part in Piedmont's campaigns against the French-Jacobean invasion, which he was totally opposed to.

CARLO  FELICE

Born in Turin in 1765. The eleventh son of Vittorio Amedeo III and Maria Antonietta Borbone-Spagna. He married Maria Cristina of Sicily in 1807, from whom he had no children. He was a conservative who believed strongly in absolute power. Nevertheless, during the royal family's exile in Sardinia between 1799 and 1814 he ably assisted in governing the island.

Savoia-Genova branch was founded by Ferdinando Maria (1822-1855). He was the 1░ duke of Genoa son of Carlo Alberto and Vittorio Emanuele II' s brother.
After a glorious past the Republic of Genoa became part of the Napoleonic Empire until 1815, when the delegates at the Congress of Vienna sanctioned its incorporation into Piedmont.

Do you know where Sergey Bondarchuk  filmed his War and Peace, I mean the locations (there are a lot of beautiful palaces and rooms).
I only know that the scene of Natasha Rostova's ball was filmed in a palace of the Anglijskaja naberezhnaja n░ 10.

This is the central part of a great portrait called "La Curea" ( Curee is the moment of the hunt when dogs receive thier part of the deer). You can see Madama Reale and her husband. This painting was in Venaria Reale Palace.

This thread is very linked to "Queens of Sardinia", in fact after Anna of Orleans ( first Queen of Sicily and then of Sardinia) they were all Duchesses, but I have put them in that thread for a reason of continuity. Now I think it is right to start a new thread with Beatrice of Portugal Carlo III's wife, also becouse there is quite a deep difference between Carlo III's age and Emanuele Filiberto's one that was like a new era for the House of Savoia.
