I wasn't sure where to post this so I thought this would be a good place. In Nicholas and Alexandra, he mentions several generals who were important in Russia during WWI and the beginning of the revolution. These were Generals Mikhail V. Alexeiev, Lavr G. Kornilov, Alexei A. Polivanov, Alexei A. Brusilov, and Vladimir A. Sukhomlinov. I was wondering how they lived before the revolution and what happned to their families afterwards. I've found quite a bit on General Sukhomlinov and his notorious third wife. I was also wondering if a picture existed of Mme. Sukhomlinova.

Thanks!

Maria Nicholaievna / Marie's Baptism
« on: March 16, 2006, 08:55:28 AM »
I was reading on the AP website that Alexandra kept the originals of popular prints that were released of Marie and Anastasia's baptisms over her fireplace in her dressing room. Has anyone seen these prints and could post pictures?

Thanks!

Rasputin / The Golovina
« on: March 11, 2006, 09:43:09 PM »
I wasn't quite sure where to put this, so I thought this forum would be the best place...

One of the things that stood out to me in Grand Duchess Marie Pavlovna's memoirs was the vast degree of interest that her step-family had in Rasputin. I had no idea that the Golovinas that introduced Felix Yusupov to Rasputin were related to Princess Paley!

Could anyone provide more information on the Golovinas? I know that Mme. Golovina was Princess Paley's older sister and that she had a daughter named Maria Evgenievna Golovina. That's about it.

Thanks!

I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of portraits, paintings, or sketches of Alexei. There are several that I have seen in the Maple Room, Mauve Room, and the Pallisander Room, all with artists unknown.

Thanks!

The Final Chapter / Officailly in charge
« on: March 04, 2006, 10:12:11 AM »
I have been reading through several books and i was wondering who was officially in charge of the Romanovs during their captivity.
During their time at the Alexander Palace and Tobolsk, it was, I think, Col. Kobylinsky
From Tobolsk to Ekaterinburg, it was Vassili Yakovlev.

Who was offically in charge of them during their stay in Ekaterinburg?

Thanks!

The Russian Revolution / Fortress of Peter and Paul
« on: March 03, 2006, 12:44:51 PM »
I read in "The Last Tsar: The Life and Death of Nicholas" that a poet named Alexander Blok detailed those in the Fortress of Peter and Paul. He mentiones Sturmer, Manuilov, Goremykin, and Beletsky who all fled here, as well as Ania Vyrubova (under arrest). Were these men imprsioned here or just seeking refuge? Who else lived here/were kept here during the time Blok is describing?

Thanks!

The Alexander Palace / Decorations of the Imperial Bedroom
« on: February 28, 2006, 02:37:26 PM »
Iwondering about the Boticelli Madonna that hung in the Imperial Bedroom. It seems to have been a favorite of Alexandra's because it followed her to Tobolsk. I did a search on Google and found several Madonna with Child's. Does anyone know which is the one that Alexandra owned a copy of?

Also, does anyone know which Faberge Easter eggs were kept on the vitrine in the bedroom?

Thanks!

The Imperial Family / Possessions Taken into Exile
« on: February 20, 2006, 03:56:27 PM »
Besides the Imperial Family, does anyone know what possessions were taken by the different members of the Romanov family as they fled Russia? An example of this would be the Faberge St. George Egg taken on the Marlborough by the Dowager Empress.

Thanks!

Does anyone know anything about the Cannes residences of Dowager Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna and Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich? Were they the only ones who had villas in Cannes?

Olga Nicholaievna / Friends of Olga and her siblings
« on: January 23, 2006, 12:49:30 PM »
Does anyone know who the friends of the Grand Duchesses were. I know that Marie would write to Zenaide Tolstoy and they were friendly with Botkin's children. But did they have any close friends their age who weren't just family?

Thanks!
