Forum Announcements / Temporary Goodbye
« on: August 15, 2006, 01:18:53 PM »
Hello everyone!  Wow, this place is a sight for weary eyes! I can't believe how far this place has come, and it definately deserves an applause.

Unfortunately, my computer loves me so much that it has fobidden me to access this wonderful forum.  It's not the end of the world, seeing as there are other computers out there, but I won't be able to get on as much as I would like to.  But then again, this site has advanced so quickly and there are so many intelligent and new members, I haven't been able to keep up anyway.  I'm way behind on my reading due to reality and all of impediments it hands us, so I haven't been able to really contribute much to anything as I should.  But someday in the future, I'm sincerely hoping to become as active as I once was, but for now, I'll simply be an on-and-off lurker. =P

Well, to stop a post that could continue much farther, I'll just say goodbye, and good luck to everyone.  And to Bob, congrats on such an absolutely wonderful site!

Until another time,
Shvibzik  :-*

Books about the Romanovs and Imperial Russia / To Be a Princess
« on: November 02, 2005, 04:40:34 PM »
Hi everyone. :)

The other day I saw this book "To Be a Princess" and when I flipped through it and noticed the GDs.  I bought it but when I started to read their pages, I was a bit disapointed.

First of all, the 1912 or 13 (I'm terrible with dates :-[) formal photo of the girls (l-r: Maria (standing), Tatiana (sitting), Anastasia (standing), and Olga (standing).)  is painted.  Not that that is a bad thing, but kind of strange.

But the text itself was pretty basic.  The classical Romanov story and the classic ending (Alexandra and Olga crossing themselves but being shot down, that sort of stuff).

I would recomend it for those just getting to know (or don't know at all) the Romanov "story".  It is in more detail than you are used to finding, although there are some errors (such as the spelling of "Shvibzik" it's "Schwibsik" and that the men that killed them had revolvers, which I don't think is true :-/.)  But overall, it covers the basics in good enough detail. ;)

BTW, it also features Mary I, Elizabeth I, Marie Antoinette, Victoria, Ka'iulani, Gayatri "Ayesha" Devi, and Elizabeth and Margaret.  It's by Hugh Brewster and Laurie Coulter.  Illustrated by Laurie McGaw.

Imperial Claimants Post Here / AA Looks Like...?
« on: June 09, 2005, 04:03:56 PM »
This is a strange comparision, but I was reading a book on the American Womens Sufferage movement and it showed a picture of Alice Paul.  Although I'm not an AA supporter, I thought they looked alike.

Birthdays:

King George III (1738-1820)--married Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

That's the only one I know off the top of my head. :-/
(Oh, but how could I forget?  It's mine, too!) ;D

Okay.

I forget where I saw this, possibly here, and I was wondering if anyone knew if this was actually about Anastasia's life, or about Anna Anderson.  I found some place that said this:

"Here is the fully documented autobiography of the Grand-Duchess Anastasia, youngest daughter of the last Tsar of all the Russias, the only survivor when he and his family were shot by the Bolsheviks in July 1918. In 1928 Anastasia was invited to the United States where a limited company was formed to establish her identity. Further quarrels among its promoters and vaious would-be patrons led to her being forced into a mental home and eventually back to Germany. However, she was declared sane, and her story reveals a sincerity and courage worthy of the royal upbringing which she claims."

If so, is this book even any good?

Anastasia Nicholaievna / Favorite Anastasia Pictures
« on: March 31, 2005, 05:19:14 PM »
I was looking through Alexei's threads and came across the "Favorite Picture" thread.  I checked through these threads and (unless I overlooked something) there wasn't one for Anastasia, so I thought it may be a good idea.  So, please post your favorite Anastasia pictures here. ;D
Here's one of mine that I just recently found, I have many more, but that will require me to go searching through the My Pictures file. :P

Having Fun! / How did you become interested in the Romanovs?
« on: March 22, 2005, 02:23:29 PM »
This has probably already been discussed elsewhere, but I'm curious: how did some you become interested in the Romanovs?
For me, I was at the library, and I reluctantly pulled the Royal Diaries book, The Last Grand Duchess off the shelf, and when I finished it, I read the eplioge, and thought it was so sad what happened to them, and started researching--which is how I got here. ;D
Again, I apologize if this has been discussed somewhere else. :-/
