Their World and Culture / Nationality, Citizenship & Ethnicity
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:37:52 PM »
I think Fyodor got my meaning. Frederick was not born a member of the Anhalt family and managed to dragged the name in the mud (achieved through sell the title, which was bought and he was "adopted" at 37 !). What I am saying is that Frederick was "only" adopted, so we must not judged him (and the poor Anhalt family) so harshly. He has no royal blood and was never trained to be "real" royal. As the Queen Mother once said of Countess Mountbatten (Edwina Ashley) "One must not judge her too harshly, she ONLY half British !" That phase was relating to Edwina's Jewish heritage. One can see how the royals use the "only" in this conext. It has nothing to do with other common familes and their adopted children.
I think it was referring to her GERMAN grandfather Sir Ernest Cassell.... One can be Jewish and British....Judaism is a religion NOT a NATIONALITY....Eric!

Last week I visited the V & A in London and saw the selection of costumes loaned by the Hermitage... my favourite was the costume worn by Nicholas Ii at the famous Boyar Ball in 1903...If yr there make time too ...to go to the new jewelry galleries and see among the countless glittering items the Faberge box given by Alexandra to Nicholas to celebrate their coronation..

Recently (while staying in the same hotel in London)I was talking to a gentlemen from Nova Scotia. By some twist of fate (I think I mentioned I had just been to the Hermitage rooms in Somerset House) he mentioned that there had been a lady in his childhood (he was early 40's) who lived near him and was supposed to be the survivor of the grand duchesses....yet another claimant !!!.
