Having Fun! / Favourite Perfume/Eau de Cologne
« on: July 05, 2010, 11:36:51 PM »
Perfumes are such a deliciously indulgent luxury. Many of us spend years seeking that 'One' that suits us and which we love! For Millennia perfumes, there formulae and ingredients were fought over and coveted by the rich and powerful and it is really only in the last hundred years that the masses have been able to get their paws on bottles of the same perfumes worn by aristocrats and Royals.

I love wrootling and snuffling around perfume counters in department stores collecting paper sticks soaked in new scents and ocassionally splashing a plash on a piece of virgin skin just to see how it dries down on my skin! Sometimes I discover a new favourite but not often!

I would be really interested to know other members' top favourite perfume/eau de cologne and maybe a few others that they have on their dressing table, as I think perfumes can reveal a lot about a wearer!

My absolute favourite and the one I would bathe in if I could afford it is Cuir de Russie by Chanel. I have to get it sent over from the Chanel boutique in Paris which makes it even more precious and therefore sniffed a great deal, but actually dabbed very very occasionally rather than splashed about as I would love to do!

I also have Rive Gauche by Yves Saint Laurent which I favour for general day wear! It is easy to get too thank goodness! It is such an odd mixture of metallic like sharpness, rich fruity depths and harmonies of floral spiciness in the middle...Yummy!

I adore L'Heure Bleu by Guerlain, but only really started to get hooked on it a few years ago! Before that I had some prejudice against this Grande Dame of Olfactory legend. She seemed just a bit too heavy of the heliotrope/almond and reminded me of Play-doh! Then one day, in an airport I had time to kill and gathered some spray sticks and spent the proceeding flight sniffing those sticks and finding L'Heure Bleu getting better and better as the dry down continued. I had never given this wonderful perfume the chance to really show off her sublime nuances. As the name implies this perfume is the Blue hour just as dusk is falling over France! It is unique and very evovcative.....perfect for summer evenings, after a hot shower when one can sit outside on a terrace listening to the crickets' symphony in the fading light and just be part of that unique time of day!

I have found myself unconsciously drawn to men by my nose when it comes to Santos de Cartier. It is such a divine Eau de Cologne.

Having Fun! / Any Questions?....Any Answers?
« on: February 20, 2010, 01:21:29 AM »
Here is a new thread! It is here as a type of lets ask 'auntie  and uncle' type thing! Anyone with questions about literally anything from day to day aspects of life to things about a variety of issues may be asked and hopefully answered here! We are such a diverse and eclectic mix of posters that from amongst our ranks, I am pretty sure there will always be someone who can answer a question no matter how topical, unusual or obscure!

For example, you may want to know a full proof recipe for a Hollandaise sauce or what the best solution to dealing with tricky social occasion may be! How to remove grease marks from a favourite blouse or pair of trousers, or maybe how to deal with other issues! It could be anything from 'Where  on the East Coast can you buy that particularly wonderful olive oil you discovered on a trip to Europe last year' or 'Where in London would be the best place to stay the night on a budget! I know we have had lots of these type of threads scattered about the forum before, but I just thought it might be easier to keep it all together! It would be a free for all and we could all share advice!

This thread is here to try and help.....Fire away at will......

Help!

I have been trying to send a PM but when I go to send I get an error message saying that the letters do not match the letters in the box!

I can not for the life of me work out where the 'letters in the box' which needs to be matched is!?!?!?

Is this some glitch or am I not allowed to PM because I only joined as  Newbie today?

Thank you in advance for all advice!
