« on: September 26, 2007, 10:33:28 PM »
This is the new thread to continue, if wished, the topic currently on the Princess Cecilie thread. It's a touch off topic there!

A visiting exhibition including the wedding dress of Diana, Princess of Wales plus many other items from Diana is openly soon at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia. The items are on loan from Althorp House, the childhood home of Lady Diana Spencer.

The Myth and Legends of Survivors / Time and myths
« on: September 11, 2007, 12:57:05 PM »
I wonder how long it will take for the myths to fade? It would seem with the final exposing of the reality there will be little left to be of any interest. Myths need to be a touch mysterious to continue it would seem. Greek myths for example continue because perhaps there were just good stories and never based on any mortal reality.

Princess Eugenie of York looked particularly attractive at the latest London society wedding.

The Windsors / Prince Henry/Prince Harry of Wales
« on: September 01, 2007, 10:13:23 AM »
I think Prince Henry/Prince Harry did a wonderful job at his late Mother's memorial service. I found it curious that he delivered the address and not his older brother Prince William.

Maria Nicholaievna / Remains of Maria
« on: August 24, 2007, 01:11:57 AM »
It will be interesting to have further information on the female remains discovered alongside those which are said to be those of Alexis. It should be possible to obtain information on whether the female remains are those of Maria or Anastasia by height difference one would think. The Russians have always said that Anastasia is already buried therefore it would seem the new remains are those of Maria.

Tsarevich Alexei Nicholaievich / The uniforms of Alexis
« on: August 15, 2007, 09:11:15 PM »
I found it really quite touching to see the uniforms of Alexis on display at the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoe Selo. You realise what an enormous tragedy this boy experienced in his all too short a life. He deserved a much happier end.

I must admit I find the marble effigies of Edward VII and Queen Alexandra rather beautiful to one side of the main altar in St.George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. In contrast I like the simplicity of the last resting place of George VI, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret in the George VI Memorial Chapel in St.George's Chapel. The Royal Mausoleum of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert is rather wonderful as well. The marble recumbent effigies of the Queen and her Prince by Marochetti are marvellous. The private royal graveyard behind is rather beautiful.

The Habsburgs / Crown Princess/Archduchess Stephanie
« on: August 05, 2007, 03:54:02 AM »
I often wondered what happened to Crown Princess/Archduchess Stephanie after Crown Prince Rudolf died at Mayerling in 1889. As a widow of a former Crown Prince she lost whatever position she had held previously as the Habsburgs did not allow female inheiritance of their Empire. Her daughter of course remained the granddaughter of Kaiser Franz Josef I and Kaiserin Elisabeth but had no position of importance. Of course I know Stephanie married again. How different it all would have been if the salic law had not existed in Austria-Hungary. Young Archduchess Elisabeth would have become the Kaiserin when Franz Josef I died under a different set of succession laws and Stephanie would have been more important as mother of a Kaiserin. Maybe Elisabeth would have been a strong Kaiserin like Maria Theresia. Who knows?
