I loved that book when I read it! :P Full of mystery and intrigue. I only wish I could believe the story - it would be a rather nice sequel to the tsarist story. But I've heard it rubbished... It certainly is fairly far fetched!

Me too, Donielle. I'm shocked to learn how many people in this Forum don't like QM because the idea I had, in my country, was that everybody in UK loved her!
I think you are been very harsh and cruel to her: you're only accusing her of minor things like gin, teeth and eyebrows. Don't talk about the money she spended and that she was spoiled - every royal is the same or worst!

I also think she saw her position as Queen as a duty and did her job very well, since she didn't expect to become Queen:
- she helped her husband in many personal and political problems (George VI's stammer and WW2)
- she was considered by Hitler "the most dangerous woman in Europe"
- she was a devoted wife and mother
- she was one of the few who care for Diana
- she was the only who was against Charles and Camilla's wedding (she was old but not stupid or insane)

She had her faults but she also had very good qualities, like everybody else! Look at Prince Eddy...  ;)

But back to the topic...

This is the first time I have seen the Queen Mother praised on this forum, and it's great to see it! Thank you, Grand Duke - I really admire the QM, faults and all. She was a rare woman, a wonderful Queen Consort and a good mother. Out of respect to someone who did such a lot for Britain, I could not smear her name, particularly now that she has passed on, and I don't understand how others can either.

This lookalike of the Prince of Wales, Guy Ingle, is so like HRH, lol! ;D :o

Just a bit thinner in the face, I think, but otherwise there is a great similarity!

Lol, tsaria! ;D

Found this. Doesn't compare to the Duchess' display, but I thought it had a place in this thread.

Simply awful. They shouldn't have requested that she wear socks. It just looks absurd. :-/

Express you opinions and ideas!  We all learn from each other on this thread and the Forum as a whole.  "I just do" is an Ok answer but I know you have greater thoughts on the matter.  Please share your thoughts on William & Mary and facilliate the exchange of ideas and debate.

Respectfully yours,

Was that a formal reproof?! ;D Probably my main reasons for liking him are that he was Protestant & he rescued us from the House of Stuart. :D

I think that is worse. :P But then, perhaps, you can relate to that better! :D

I just do. ;) Well, I like the way he and Mary were equally King & Queen instead of a monarch and a consort. That's one thing.

1. Queen Victoria - maybe the last monarch who dabbled in politics?
2. Prince William of Orange - just to plunge myself into controversy
3. King George III - so what if he has a nasty reputation?
4. King George VI - wasn't really suited to be king but made a good job of it anyway
5. Tsar Alexander III - tried his best for his people
6. Queen Elizabeth I - she had character ;)
7. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother - she had a faults but she is, IMO, much to be admired
8. Empress Marie Feodorovna - I just like her ::)
9. Queen Mary (wife of George V) - a true lady; I think her efforts during the war years are admirable
10. Queen Alexandra (wife of Edward VII) - sister to Dagmar lol :P

What a tie - and I thought the Prince of Wales liked flowers.... The Duchess of Cornwall barely let go of those feathers outside the church that day. And that might be the only pic of the Queen losing her habitual good manners. :P
