The Alexander Palace / Re: Floorplans of the Alexander Palace
« on: July 31, 2019, 08:29:52 AM »
Is there a sectional drawing of the "courtyard side" in comparison to the "garden side" of the Palace?

It would be great to see that as well...

The Imperial Family / Re: Royal matches for OTMA
« on: April 11, 2018, 10:10:22 AM »
I watched a series on YouTube on the Scandinavian Royals ("A Royal Family, Episode 1: The Father in law of Europe" etc.) consisting of interviews with members of the various Royal families including Margrethe II.  In it, they mention that the two youngest daughters Maria and Anastasia were considered as possible brides for her father King Frederick IX who was born in 1899.  Unfortunately the events of 1918 put an end to that.

The Alexander Palace / Re: The Mauve Room (Photos)

Maybe there is a way we can find out who will be creating the lampas silk for the walls of the mauve room.  Possibly they will be working form an original piece.
I recall having read somewhere that rolls of the silk were kept at Tsarskoe Selo for refurbishment prior to the revolution.

Thank you for the information, I just ordered it through Amazon...

Question, do we know if her 1917 diary has been published in English for those of us who cannot read Russian?

I am not sure where to post this question:

Is it possible to get more information on the French firm that is weaving the mauve lampas silk for the walls of the mauve room?

And is it possible to order a piece of the silk fabric from the firm (though I do recall Bob saying it costs like $600.00 per meter...) ?

This is very interesting Johanna, can you please post more information on the "own dacha"?  I have not heard of it.

One cannot really see the plans properly from the website.  If there is a way for you to post them, I shall really appreciate it.

Rulers Prior to Nicholas II / Re: Empress Catherine II
« on: March 31, 2017, 01:50:51 PM »
At some point I read about Catherine's eating and drinking habits.  She ate little.

I recall she was fond of thick soured milk and also that she drank her coffee extremely strong (whatever that might mean by 18th century standards). The piece I read was that she once gave some of her coffee to a footman/valet and that the poor man passed out from caffeine overdose... Can anyone confirm this story or where I might have read it - It was definitely in a biographical book on Catherine.

This thread is about the private rooms in the WINTER PALACE, thus my question to Johanna concerns the bathroom and toilet of Alexandra Feodorovna in the Winter Palace, not the dressing room in the Alexander Palace.  Maybe it was not clear? I apologize.

Dear Johanna, are there any photographs of the bathroom and toilet of Empress Alexandra (of Nicholas II) as it looked in the early 1900's or today? The painting shows what it looked like at the time of Alexandra Feodorovna (of Nicholas I).
Can you please post?

French Royals / Re: Queen Marie Antoinette, Part II
« on: August 03, 2012, 05:56:41 PM »
I saw the movie last weekend here in metropolitan Washington DC.  I cannot say that I really liked it.  It was not shot within the Queen's apartments.  Parts of it was supposedly shot in Le Petit Trianon.  Knowing the layout of both places visually and plan wise, it is clear that they used other venues - unless things have changed dramatically, it has been some years since I have been there...  They used the outside of the buildings in the film and the Galerie des Glaces. Interesting the take on Mme Campan and Rose Bertin. Would like to hear what other members thought of the movie.
