Research Russian Roots / 1897 census Odessa
« on: January 27, 2020, 12:06:21 PM »
Recently found my Great Grand presents Marriage Certificate Dated 1898 in Odessa.

It gives there addresses but I have looked on several web sites that has the1897 Census but none that have been translated.
the information would greatly help me in my family Research. I do understand that the Census may not be complete
I was wondering if any one could help me out.

Hi Nicolay.
A big thank you for the infomation, What i am trying to sort out is what my family had to do with the canadian built subs.Wilfred Dunderdale was my Gt Uncle.I know a lot about his life after 1919 but its before that date that im  stuck? in his obituarie it says that he was educated at the gymnasium in Nikolayev and was studying Navel engineering at petrograd university. when he was 16 his Father sent him to meet some American clients from the Electric Boat Company in Vladivostok. they were there to sell the Tsarist navy 12 partially completed Submarines. Dunderdale acted as interpreter and escort across Russia. It also clames that later he went as a observer to accompany the imperial procurator on his investigation of the murder of the Russian imperial family at Ekaterinburg? His Obituarie was Writen By  Bruce Lockhart who was the British Counsul- General in Moscow.
His Father Richard in many Books claim that he worked for Vickers and in 1943 the KGBs Elena Modrzhinskaya said that we was the former manager of the Vickers works in Kronstadt.  So Im trying to put all this togther and find out what if any thing the Dunderdales had to do with the Holland AG class Subs.

Having Looked at my Gt Uncles Birth Record It says that he was born on the 12 0f December yet i know his Birthday was on the 24th. could this be down to the Old Julian calender?

I have recived a list of Experts engaged in testing the AG class subs. These have been translated from Russian.
Edwin Viler [Wiler? Willer?]
Robert Gilmore
Herman Noblit
Wort? Worth? Vort? Foster
Andrew Anderson
Edward Mayers
Wilfred Dunderdale
Constantine Antilas
Would any one have any idears about who they would have been working for.Electric Boat Co , Vickers? Or any info. on the construction, contracts ect
of these Canacian built Subs.

I have just found a record of my Gt Grandperants Marrage dated 1898. It says that the Marriage place was Odessa, Kherson, so would it have taken place in Odessa or Kherson? My Gt grandmothers Father was a Carl Urbanek witch i do not think is a Russian name. does any one know how or where it might be able to find out any more about my family.
My Gt uncle was born in Odessa in 1899 and my Grandmother, Nicolaev 1901.
Many Thanks

This comes from a book from last year,Triplex by Nigel West and Oleg Tsarev. Tsarev was a KGB officer given access to the archives as part of a  soviet programme to publish details of the KGBs successes,
The KGB document is a report in April 1943 by Elena Modrzhinskaya, who was a top KGB expert on the uk.
The report in about my Gt uncle Biffy Dunderdale but it says that his father was the former manager of the vickers works at Kronstadt and his Mother Countess Demidov?
