Stored in the garden? Does that mean they were buried?

Oh no, I think they were stored in the outbuildings in the garden, they were in labelled trunks and crates.

Tom, Nicholas' diaries are on the safe place, in Russian archives, GARF. (i believe that some of them were found in guards' houses) -- some of the complete diaries are published online in Russian.

Thankyou nena  :)

Hello :)

Just a thought, what happened to all of Nicholas' diaries that were stored in the garden of the Ipatiev house? I know that extracts are available on the main AP page. Does this mean they all survived?

Hello all,

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place, but can someone colour a picture for me? I'm a little bit desperate :| !

here is the photo - http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/tom_romanov/img272-Copy.jpg

Its my great-great uncle, its not the best photo, as its from a newspaper cutting, but this is why I would like a coloured copy of it.

Thanks very much,
tom

I think Thomas_Hesse meant that this photo was edited. Not the one at the Standart window.

Sometimes, if they cut it wrong then no!

Flowers in a vase or flowers in the garden?

And you can see from his agonized eyes, that he is telling HIS TRUTH.

This is a bit off-topic, but I think that the agonized look in his eyes, yes partly due to the troubles of his life. But at the occasion of that photo, a plaque was being unveiled to mark the century of Queen Mary's birth, I suppose that he was also very sad at that event, probably remembering the less than harmonious relationship between mother and son.

Yes! Everyone should always have a nice pen  :) but I wish I could write with a fountain pen.

Digital clocks (don't tick/ clear time)  or  normal clocks (some are very beautiful) ?

Please tell me some of you are laughing!

I am! ;D

I take it that Alexandra was in a good mood one day in 1910 as she is not only smiling in the photo with Nicholas, she was again smiling on the photo of her walking up the gang plank. That is unless she was wearing the same dress on two different occasions, of which she was seemingly happy.

Yes, thatīs right. Even more so - why wouldnīt Maria smoke when everybody else in the family did?

Makes sense that she smoked then  :)

Smoking was not only common in that time, it was prescribed by doctors to calm the nerves and, specifically in woman to lose weight.

True, even Alexandra had her special French cigarettes for her nerves.

But I think we're covering well trodden ground now...

Ah! Thanks for clearing that up Elly, once again your vast knowledge has helped us all...

And Anastasia Spalko, I'm sure the grand duchesses didn't mean to offend you  ;)

I was like that too when I found out. I thought ' how could they do something so bad?' but then someone pointed out the me that they were only human and that at that period in history, people did not know the effects of smoking and it was seen as new, exotic and fashionable. In a way you could say OTMA were just following a trend amoung young women at that time.

although I haven't heard of Maria smoking?

The guards' testimony from that night says the girls were wearing blouses and dark skirts. (I'm not sure about Alexandra.)

Probably something similar to this - http://www.livadia.org/mashka/images/mawounded.jpg

I presume that if he did return to his house, perhaps to pick up his belongings ( wasn't some silver and paintings locked in a shed or some other outside building?). Then the house would have been empty of the belongings of the IF? And that the investigators had long gone?

I was flicking through Royal Russia album last night when I came across this photo -"http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/tom_romanov/otmaresting1916.jpg"

And I noticed something I haven't seen before. We all know that Anastasia is either smoking or pretending too, but when I looked at Olga's left hand I notice something inbetween her fingers. Could it be a cigarette?

I don't know but I just thought I'd publish it as it was new for me.
