I thought the same (because Rudolph was the heir), but Sophie was their first child. But probably you are right and the baby is Rudolph. Wink

The nice sculpture of the Imperial couple and FJ's parents. Does anybody know, who is a child on emperor's arms? I suppose, it might be Sophie or Rudolf.

That's wonderful photo! I've never seen so old photo of him, when he was in his early twenties. If you have more old photos of Maximilian (or his brothers), please post them! I will be very grateful!

I would like to know the author of the portrait of young Emperor. Somewhere I read, that the author is Winterhalter, but I have doubts. Can anybody help with identification?

He was something like connection between "today modern world" and "world of the past". People in his age, who can remember "old empire" stepwise leave us.  Sad RIP Archduke Otto!

10  Discussions about the Imperial Family and European Royalty / The Habsburgs / Re: Crown Princess/Archduchess Stephanie on: June 10, 2010, 03:43:49 AM
Lovely image! Wink I always feel sorry for her unhappy childhood. Her father Leopold II. was totaly cruel heartless man. Her first marriage was not happy too, but I think, she was actually glad, that she had ecsaped from her home in Belgium. In my opinion, no woman would have been happy with Rudolph. He had very strange character, was promiscuous and later became ill physiclly and psychically. He couldn't get permission for divorse from the pope, but his father was again divorse too. Fortunately at Stephanie's secon marriage she finally found her happiness. That was perhaps satisfaction for her unfortunate youth.
