You seem to miss the point that when Grand Duke Mikhail died, Grand Duke Kyril became the Head of the Imperial House. Kyril then declared himself Emperor-in-exile and according to the Fundamental Law his children were elevated to the rank and dignity of Grand Duke and Grand Duchesses of Russia. Though Grand Duke Vladimir did not declare himself to be the Emperor-in-exile, he was the head of the Imperial House and the son of a de jure Emperor of Russia. Grand Duchess Maria of course is a grand daughter of an Emperor-in-exile and entitled to the title of grand duchess.

David

He was not an Emperor-in-Exile, there is not such thing! You can be a former emperor who is in exile. But, you cannot be an Emperor of a non-existing Empire. In Russia, he was a grand duke, after the revolution he continued to be a grand duke but it was already an empty title because there was not an empire or an emperor. Therefore, MV was the grand daughter of an exiled grand duke (who by the way betrayed his oath of allegiance to his Emperor, the real one).
None of the reigning Royal Houses of Europe gave him the rank of emperor, it was all a fantasy, an empire on paper which never became real.

For most of the family he was an embarrassment, especially after the parody of declaring himself an emperor.

Maria Vladimirovna is always a very hot topic Shocked, so I always find discussions about her fascinating!! Personally I have no doubt that she is head of the Romanov family and is a Grand Duchess. That doesn't change because she lives abroad, or because of regime changes in Russia.I don't see what she is doing that is so different from other heads of exiled families.
The Pauline Laws are outdated, but hey, they only live in our memories anyways....

I find very funny this topic about MV. She is pretending to be the head of the Romanov family, but she only recognizes as living Romanov her mother , her son and herself. What kind of nonsense is that!! How can she ignore tens of Romanov fellows all around the world who are direct descendants of different Tsars and Grand Dukes? And please do not tell me about laws of a State and monarchy who ceased to exist almost a century ago. Prince Nikolai, Michael, Dimitri and so on are true Romanov , with as much right as hers to belong to the Romanov family.  Before her divorce she was a member of the Royal House of Prussia,House of  Hohenzollern, and after she is just a member of a Royal family in exile. Her son is a prince of the Royal House of Prussia, House of Hohenzollern, period.

There are no living Grand Dukes or Grand Duchesses. Vladimir K. was not a Grand Duke, only a Prince. There is no curator or curatrix of a throne of Russia, for the simple reason that there in no throne or monarchy.
Prince George of Prussia (MV's son) is one of the  princes of the Royal House of Prussia.

... not all websites are correct or reliable as sources, Russian or whatever languages they are written.

Ms Dehn never believed that the person was anything but an imposter, but her carefully structured words were misinterpreted decades ago and that  misinterpretation incorrectly offered a different complexion.

Those fully conversant in a number of languages have encountered flawed translations where spoken statements were taken out of context, losing their original intent on paper.

Sadly the new inquirer relies on that flawed translation, rather than seeking out the original for confirmation; as a consequence, they believe that this interpretation bears the semblance of accuracy.

I have to rely on sources translated by reliable and known translators rather than in individuals I do not know their credentials and who discredit so openly others people's work.

Please, as you are "fully conversant in a number of languages" cite the books on this subject which are wrongly translated so we can contact the editors and warn them of such mistakes and misleading translations.

My personal opinion is that if we have to go everytime to the original source to read the statements in their original language we are in serious trouble. Publishing houses, books, and translators would be useless .

Most of the members in this forum are "fully conversant in a number languages" but I think most of us would find kind of pretentious to arrogate the role of discrediting translations of professionals and published works .  I would be more cautious in the future before releasing statements as yours. At the very least cite your sources, and for sources I mean published works, documents from archives, but certainly not websites.

PS Lili believe Anna WAS Anastasia......

According to the Russian language link provided by Matushka, the presumption in the above quote is incorrect.

"No. From first sight (I) don't recognize her", - said the Tsaritsa's friend, seeing the imposter. In that, Anna Anderson is not Anastasia in any way, clearheaded Lili had no doubt (and which DNA analysis confirmed after Anderson's death), ..."

Yes; she wrote it. She didn't recognized her at the first sight, but the quote is not complete.

I'm sorry that I can't write in Russian. .... I do not think that a translation could change a "yes" in a "no" or vice-versa:

You are right. DNA said that AA was not Anastasia
RealAnastasia.

RealAnastasia,

In view of your own words informing us that you "can't write in Russian", kindly please inform me where I have erred in my Russian translation of the linked document provided by Matushka?

I eagerly await your response.

Thank you.

Real Anastasia is not saying you have erred in your translation but that the quote is incomplete. Please, remember you are translating from a website, not all websites are correct or reliable as sources, Russian or whatever languages they are written.

Sigh. I'm so disappointed. Bear for a few hours today I actually thought you were going to FINALLY be fair and objective to both sides with your posts, but I was wrong. You only want to dig up stuff that helps AA's case. You say you don't believe her, then prove it! Let's see all you can dig up and post AGAINST her being AN, and in favor of her being a fraud. I challenge you.

I have been away for a while from the Survivor posts, and I see things have worsened. Ms. Annie I consider you are taking this too serious, and you are going to extremes. Bear is a wonderful and well informed poster in many threads and you are just rambling all the time with few or no sources and just repeating yourself over and over.

I read your post asking the Forum Administrator to lock the Survivor post. Why on earth? Are you running out of steam? If you are so much stressed by these posts why don't you move along to other threads. You could try colouring pictures  Wink, that will help you to calm down a little bit. And leave people like Bear and other posters to discuss armoniously this interesting subject.

We got the idea you don't believe AA!!! But, that gives you no right to ban these threads or impose your beliefs .I find no reason on earth why you are so determined to continue discussing a subject you don't believe. What a waste of energy!!. Take my advice do some colouring ........ Grin
21  Discussions about the Imperial Family and European Royalty / Servants, Friends and Retainers / Re: Jim Hercules on: April 05, 2006, 03:28:26 AM
Thanks David and Sarushka, great information. The chance he was born in Barbados is very possible, but we must also remember that not all the birth records microfilmed by the mormons are online.
However, I find hard to understand how an African-american could take British citizenship at that time, even now it is not that easy. But, if we go with the Barbados theory, being this island a British colony, he was already a British subject then the pieces fit into place easier (If I am not mistaken there were many types of citizenship within the British empire).

The story about being from the States could come from the fact that he moved from Barbados to New York to start his career as a boxer and being billed at that time as an American boxer and from former slaves parents was very exotic and good marketing . America was seen as wild and very exotic place, especially after the tours of Buffalo Bill and his troup.
He could well have been son of former slaves because slavery was abolished in 1834 in the British empire.

I look forward to seeing more info on the subject. Is there any chance of getting that picture of Jim in uniform posted  Smiley?

Not a late XIX or early XX century blackamoor but it gives an idea. The subject is Elizabeth Petrovna with a black servant.

Thanks David, great pictures much better  than the one I posted. By any chance, do you have any picture of any of the Court Blackamoors?

In my post there is one so small, almost impossible to see anything.

Thanks

Dear Frimousse,

We are always nicely surprised by your knowledge of the "lesser known facts" about the Romanov family. And the pictures you post are really wonderful and hardly seen before. Thanks a lot!!!

By any chance do you have a picture of the son of Grand Duke Boris Wladimirovich.? Do you know if his son inherited his father'estate in France or personal property? Was he ever recognized or acknowledged by the Grand Duke Boris?

Thanks.

Until those books are published and we can finally see a picture of Jim, I think this is the kind of uniform he wore. A small picture is seen at the bottom, unfortunately hardly visible. Hope some other members who are not publishing books may have a picture of Jim or the others "Africans" and share them with us.

A thousand thanks again, really wonderful pics. One question, the one in black and white where did you get it?

I am asking because I read somewhere that many interiors of palaces in Modena where photographed before the Second World War,and I have been trying to get some from Pentetorri that unfortunately was bombarded and destroyed during the war. Any idea?

29  Discussions about the Imperial Family and European Royalty / Italian Royal Families / Re: The Dukes of Modena, Este and Habsburg-Este on: March 14, 2006, 01:01:14 PM
Thanks Ipflo and crotolo for the wonderful pics.

Here is another pic of Pentetorri del Duca.
Does anybody have any interior pics of Sassuolo or pentetorri?

Thanks
