You and your informative contributions will be greatly missed by all.  I second the suggestion you not delete your account.  Simply not using it for a long time will not be of any harm to anyone, and leaves you free to pop back in sometime if you change your mind.  Best wishes to you in your new endeavors!

"Lesnoe" "Lesnoje" and "Lesnoie" are all English spellings for the SAME PLACE NAME in Russian.  I explained that already in email to Taco, but I guess my answer wasn't good enough for him.

It's all the same place.

It was quite common for people to put their initials on cigarette cases in Russia, like that.  These type cases were momentos of friends..  Your photos take so long to upload because they are very large, you should re size them before uploading to photobucket.

No Imperial Connection at all, nothing of a Grand Duke.  Just the Imperial Navy and some minor officers emblems as far as I can see.  Some of the military experts here can probably give you a better idea of exactly what rank and regiment.  I can tell you without doubt nothing on the case suggests any Imperial connections, however.

8  General Category / Rules for This Forum / Re: Post count? on: May 09, 2013, 11:48:40 AM
This is explained elsewhere. Essentially, only posts in the "Serious History" threads will count.  Posts in "Having Fun" and "the Discussion Forum" do not count.

Volkov says that Maria insisted she not be separated from her father.  The entire account is here:  http://www.alexanderpalace.org/volkov/18.html

A private Family photo album, almost certainly purloined from the Ipatiev House after the executions has been discovered in the vaults of a Museum in the Urals.

14  Discussions about the Alexander Palace / The Alexander Palace / Re: Reconstruction project of Alexandrovsky palace with plans on: May 02, 2013, 07:48:25 PM
You wrote " I am hoping maybe the people in charge will see the swell of interest in NII and family and change their minds. ".  It seems you do not actually grasp that until VERY recently, the restoration plans were to destroy the Nicholas II appearance and return the AP to the original Quarenghi appearance!

The current Museum staff is HUGELY devoted to return the AP to the way it appeared the day that Nicholas II and family left for Tobolsk!  They don't need to "change their minds" about anything.

Why do you think they are working so closely with Bob on the restoration?

People. This is the FIRST part of restorations. The budget is limited. If you want to donate funds dedicated to an eventual restoration of the children's rooms that will soon be possible.  In meanwhile I suggest you be positive and supportive of  what work is now underway!

Better some than nothing. Don't you agree?  Mme Tarantinova and Dr Bott are dedicated, passionate and committed. They need support for what is finally happening and not grousing about what isn't yet being done
