Having Fun! / How often did the Imperial Family buy new clothes?
« on: January 04, 2015, 01:29:32 AM »
A bit out there,  just wondering how often the Imperial Family bought new every day clothing until their arrest?   I know the girls would have hand me down night wear but I am just thinking every day clothes in general?

Just saw this article of a grandmother claiming to be the child of  Frederik VII and his ballerina wife.    Daily Mail.

I wanted to show you what Helen Rappaport has said on Facebook in regards to the documentary being posted on Youtube.

This was after Helen reported about being hurt how the documentary was posted on Youtube.   There was a full blown discussion about how wrong it was that people would do that etc etc.   Then she deleted it and posted this.

This was on a page post and Helen tells more about what happened and how Silver River productions are going to take legal action for the postings of the documentary with no permission or royalties.

Anzac Girls it is not a movie but a tv series.   (Though no mention of the Romanovs)

I thought I come on and share my thoughts of Russia's Lost Princesses part 1.

Helen Rappaport on her Facebook page had said how hurt she was that people had taken the doco and posted it on social media sites such as Youtube and was going to take action.   She has since removed the comment and has put it in the hands of the BBC.

I am going to admit I did watch Part 1 on Youtube as I live in Australia and I was going to hold out till it screened here but it got the better of me.

The opening was nice to view,  we can not blame the voice over narrator for saying people don't recall their names but worship them as maytars.    She has a script to read from.   As thought the whole episode was about Nicholas, Alexandra and Alexei with at times OTMA mentioned.  With Rasputin taken up a big chunck of air time.   The only times I found interesting was the ancdotes of Olga and Tatiana buying tickets to the ferry by themselves and how excited they were in doing so.

I agree with the voice overs,  it seemed they wanted to keep some romanticisim that the family spoke with Russian/German accents.   When as we know they spoke an English accent for the most part of their lives.   I found the girls accents grating and I could not understand what they were saying as it was to quick.  I am normally good at listening to other accents as I am an avid watcher of SBS channel.

That is all I can write now at such a short time.

Just a little trivia we celebrate ANZAC day on 26th of April.     It is similar to Veterians (sp) day in the US.

You are welcome Tim :)

My great grandfather served in Egypt during WWI.   So it took my interest.

I want to share with you guys a new Australian period drama called "Anzac Girls".    Set in 1915 Egypt sees a group of Australian and New Zealand nurses facing war.   The costumes are fantastic and seems to want to stay true to that time period.   It even has Australian Indigenous soldiers.   It is interesting to see the contrast of the IF women and associsated women of Russia as nurses and Australian/New Zealand nurses of the same period.

I thought I post some photos.

Having Fun! / Re: Age progression of OTMAA
« on: August 16, 2014, 07:26:37 AM »
I would have to agree with you Rodney about Olga.

If you compare Olga's photos from 1917 to 1918 she has aged a lot in her face.  She actually looks older in her last photo taken on the Rus more older then a 21/22.  It is not just her expression but she lost weight and looks gaunt.

Your Olga is adorable.  :)

Not sure Georgiy.   I just see them on various Romanov Facebook groups.   I was happy to see the whole OTMA tea "party" set.  I have seen the Tatiana photo of her cupping her chin in her hands for years and now  I see there is a whole OTMA set from that day.

Nicholas II / Re: Nicholas' fitness regime
« on: July 05, 2014, 02:48:49 AM »
Thanks for this guys :)   I just thought of learning something different about him.   From his known photographs of him swimming he did look really fit.   I should add he seemed to like swimming ;)

Nicholas II / Nicholas' fitness regime
« on: July 04, 2014, 02:26:07 AM »
I know this is an odd topic but just wondering what was Nicholas' fitness regime?   It has been said by those who knew him personally and from those who examined his remains that Nicholas was a very fit man even by the time of his death.

It is very well known he liked to go on long walks around the grounds or wherever location he was at.  (Does any one know how long his walks lasted was it minutes or hours?)

He also was a keen horse rider.

Is there anything he also did to keep his body in good health (besides his smoking ;) )

The Final Chapter / Just a thought. What if he abdicated in 1905?
« on: June 28, 2014, 06:17:04 AM »
Just wondering what would have happen if Nicholas abdicated in 1905 during the first wave of protests?  Would things have been different?
