So true Tim,  I just think he had no idea what was in store once he signed those papers.

Yes I also thought it was amusing she had very limited English as well.   Which as we know the IF did talk in English frequently.

James that is a very interesting fact that Nicholas looked relieved after he signed the abdication.

I am sure they knew their fates.   It was most likely a waiting game.  With little communication decreasing by the day be it letters or newspaper articles it would make anyone wonder what was to become of them.

This thread made me think of Queen Victoria being worried about Alexandra after finding out the engagement of Nicholas and Alexandra.   Queen Victoria liked Nicholas as a person but knew that there was trouble in the Russian empire.        She must have had an idea of what would be in store for Alexandra.

I just spent a lovely evening looking through this thread.   Wonderful finds in such sad circumstances.

To the original question,  for me it was when I first spotted the photograph of OTMA in the book "Great crimes of the 20th century"  and I thought they were beautiful and was sadden to see they died such tragic deaths.   I was 13 years old at the time and a few months later the cartoon movie Anastasia came out which I did not like at the time because of the fictional scenes.

I became fascinated by the whole soap opera lives of the IF and their family members such as KR and Ella etc.   Then as I aged I became interested in the palaces and travels of the IF.   It is just hard to explain what it is about them.   We know they were just human beings who were placed in to their situation.   Events occurred and many tragic events took place.   Sometimes I wonder what would happen if Nicholas did not abdicate,  or what if OTMAA were sent with Olga A or Xenia and were able to leave Russia.   The what ifs are just as interesting.

RosiePosie, that is quite understandable.  By-the-by, I noticed that your banner is of Princess Grace. Just to say, one the favorite books in my library is Princess Grace's Book of Flowers...

Thank you Griffh.  :)

There was a thread many years ago of actors who look like the IF.

I decided to start a new one after seeing this picture of Lea Seydoux from the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel poster.

No need to say who this picture reminds me of ;)

Seeing Lenin's statue being pulled down by protestors in Kiev made me smile.     This was last night but two months ago Kiev protestors also pulled down another Lenin statue.     It makes me think of the IF and wonder how so much has changed in almost 100 years.

This footage was from 2 months ago.
Though kind of ironic since we know any statues of the IF were also pulled down by protestors.

I no doubt there some sort of kinky side of her but I was saying that book was most likely something Alexandra wrote as a token to remember her by.   If it was something sorrid it would have been noted.  Just like the merkins (yes I already knew what a merkin is I am 30)  and the condoms of Nicholas' which was found.

LOL sorry but 50 shades gee.   Alexandra was not into erotica,  she was deeply religious.   Dirty little mind you have there.
