Amazing story!

She was such a  strong woman!, It is simply incredible how she managed to survive, and how hes decisions were always aimed at being together again with her husband.

I may be totally wrong, but I do believe that "high society" in different countries is still HIGH SOCIETY.... especially in that era.

What I mean by this is that most people in court, or attending  balls and important dinners spoke in French, it didnt matter where they came from, and they probably talked about the same things whether in France, England on Russia... so learning about other countries culture was not vital, unless you married into it (as happened to Aleksandra) in which case a tutor would be appointed.

I guess they were more preoccupied with court manners, as these did vary from one place to another, but not with cultures.

Of course, I might well be totally off

That was a very interesting article, thank you for sharing it.

Anastasia Nicholaievna / Re: Nastya's teddy bear...

I do believe I have seen a picture of a teddy bear, it was in ony of the exhibitions that visited the USA.

Tha caption read something about it being the Tsarevich's Teddy bear, but no name was provided.

From the pictures I have seen, the girls mostly played with dolls, and among themselves.

As for the dogs, the first one, definetely looks like a Pomeranian... but thats just my opinion

In that first picture that brnbg posted I thought she looked ok but a little bit manish to me.
:o "waits for the backlash for that manish comment. :o

Good to know Im not the only one who thinks so

Very interesting questions!

I only know about the Hermitage in Yekaterina Palace.  The kitchen was located about 500 meters away.  So the guests would put their requests for dinner on the table, the table was lowered from the first floor to the gound floor where very FAST waiters ran to the kitchen, waited for food to be prepared and ran back to put the food on the table.
When this was done, the table was again raised to the first floor.

Thank you very much Laura!

Having Fun! / Re: Children named after the Romanovs
« on: May 03, 2005, 02:58:39 PM »

Well.. I like lots of Russian names, not neccesarily Romanov names: Galina, Natalia, Nadezhda, but the one I like the most TATIANA... and my husband also really likes the name, so if we ever have a girl... the name has been chosen.

The problem comes with boys names, I love Nicholas, but he says its the ugliest name ever  :'(   so... we'll see... lol
