Does anyone know who this man is? A suggestion by a friend was Emanuel of Salm-Salm but I have my doubts.

Hello,

It came with other photos on the Habsburgs.
I have found one or two photos of Elisabeth or Marie Sophia where she looks quite the same but which were not convincing me.

It is  -by the way- a cdv by Adolf Ost, Wien.

Ofcourse it's possible it got mixed up with the Habsburg cdv's by mistake !

Jan

This is neither Elisabeth nor one of her sisters. And they never went to Adolf Ost's studio.

Totally agree with you, Yelena. Photos for family would have been to risky because sooner or later, some photos might have got lost and reach the public. But the point was not that she was afraid someone could see her. She simply didn't WANT to see herself on a photo from the age of 30 on. She was most beautiful around that age and she knew from that point on, things would get worse again. It would have felt for her like watching her beauty disappear AND having proof of it in a photo. If I remember correctly, there is a quote from Elisabeth in a book where she says something like that.

Based upon earlier photos or paintings. The black dress may be the one worn at that time.

If so, then only based on earlier paintings. Because by the time she wore black, after Rudolf's death, she had already stopped having her photo taken.

I think with all the black dresses, it's nearly impossible to say which one she wore that day for sure. Another mystery to add to the Empress' life. ;-)

Around that time, Elisabeth didn't allow any photos being taken of her anymore, so I doubt that.

Well, it seems to be an old newspaper article and photo, so it's not sure it still exists. Maybe somebody knows for sure.

That's true, I haven't thought about this!! This photo can be from not much time after Sissi's death. Well, I must correct my statement, I didn't imagine that there was a photo of the dress (I only can remember a painting of that event and the Empress wearing a black gown). I expect that it has survived to the two disastrous World Wars  Sad More info about the whereabouts of it will be very welcome!  Smiley

You mean the painting by Gyula Benczur, I guess:

I don't know. Maybe it doesn't exist anymore at all. Who knows, after two wars and all that.

Could those be members of the Solms family? I think the girl on the floor has some similarities with Marie Solms HS Lich. On the back of the card it says they are members of the Ysenburg / Isenburg family.

Here is another photo from my private collection, supposed to show members of the Ysenburg/Isenburg family. Does anyone know who they are? Maybe even members of the Solms family?

It's not a traveling suitcase. This was part of an exhibition. The text under the picture says "The Queen's Hungarian gown which she weared on the Millenium Feast.
(of Hungary...)"  Wink
