uh, i guess i posted the pencil version of my work in progress on Tatiana's portrait - here goes another WIP, my God, I will never ever finish this, i don't know what to do with it next... maybe in one year, you will get the final version :D

that's seriously the worst book i ever read, money wasted! even if i'm looking at it as a total fiction, my God, it's so pathetic!

no worries :) as I said, the word 'zubr' is both in Polish and in Russian, means the same but is written a bit differently, someone mentioned the 'Żubrówka' spelling (which is pronounced nearly the same as 'Zubrovka'), so I wrote something more about it:)

anyway, I wonder if Alexei's Zubrovka was named so after the animal... highly doubt that there is any other possibility to be honest :D

Not that I remember. Żubrówka is a very old brand of vodka but I don't know if that is related to Alexei's cat Zubrovka. :-)

In Russian "Zubr" means a bison

'Żubrówka' - it's written in Polish.

in our language it means both a kind of grass AND a vodka distilled from rye.

It was first made in the region of Poland and Belarus, from the beginning of the 16th century. The name comes of course from 'żubr', which means a wisent - but this word is also used in Russian. The interesting thing is, the wisents live here in Poland only in Białowieża, where the tsars used to spent their free time - and one time Alexander III decided to take some of the wisents to Gatchina, where they lived in the imperial forests :)

SO SORRY for the offtop, it would be great if my info helped anyone :)

(remember this letter of Alexandre III to his wife where he wrote "what a pity Serge will never know this joyce of having children", or something like that)

I also read about this, and to me, it shows very well that Sergei had some medical problems when it came to having children, not that he was homosexual - you think that the family would write about him being homosexual with such an ease AND understanding? I don't think so!

yeah, in the second one, where Alix is seated in the armchair. but in the one I posted, from FrozenTears, she is not, and they're much older, I guess it was taken around 1910 or later. Gosh, I'd love to have the full version...

Alexandra Feodorovna / Re: Empress Alexandra Photos #4

I think she's probably a lady-in-waiting of Alexandra, or at least someone known to the family, she also appears on many summer photos, especially those made in Finland, and on Standart, but I have no idea who she is... Huh

Alix seemed to like Sergei very much, they're usually near each other in the photos and seem very friendly, there are lots of other Hessisches Staatarchiv photos of that duo :)

not rare to me, sorry.

but this one is rare to me, I've seen only the version with Alix, Louise (? is it Louise?) and that kid that I can't name. Besides, the only other person I can recognize is Albert Victor (am I right?) in the middle...
