Does OTMA show up in your dream?

Yes, I always use photos because I find it really hard to draw without a reference...
oh me too! ...I said " of course " because it's the way to go, to get a start...not because it makes it easier! lol!  Getting a decent likeness is part battle, luck , prayer...with talent in there too! lol! I'm doing a painting of the big pair in thier nurses uniforms. It's a powerful experience to bring them into being again, even if it's just on canvas with paint. I find I can paint for about 90 minutes before I have to stop, due to emotional exhaustion. And it's often startling to have them regard you as you work!  Once the likeness found in the in the reference photo is established, ( and that is no easy task at all, Lord knows) one can then flesh out the image a bit based on knowing thier faces...and there by you create something new. Art is alchemy...even for those who do it. While one is working, there a moment when what you are after is  not there and then in the next moment  it is there. But just how it got there is ever a mystery to me.
I know, it's so cool! Sometimes when I color photos I get this weird feeling like I'm bringing them back to life with each layer of pencil. It certainly is an emotional experience as well as an artistic one.
Your painting sounds so awesome, be sure to show us! Is it a really big one or a small canvas?
I know just what you mean. I find that the things I draw that I have a special attatchment to, like OTMA, always seem to turn out the best.

that's quite nice dream I suppose... :)

I keep having dreams(almost every night, for almost three weeks) with either Nicholas or Alexandra-I always tell them how wrong they were, how many things they should have done in different way. they always agree with me, but says that it has to be done this way. they later ask me to keep trying & pray. If in this dream is Alix instead of Nicholas I always dream that after that conversation she prays near my bed...
That's interesting, but it sounds like a frustrating dream!

I'm glad you like them!  :) Yes, I do have one or two entries by Tatiana in this little book that I write pretend entires for OTMA in.
Here is some more of Anastasia's:

6 December 1913
I found Gleb! His father is in St. Petersburg and can't come though. Gleb says he knows a little doctoring, so we found Alexei's other medicines and the essential oils labeled:
Alexis.N.Romanov
and then the type of oil or med. When we arrived at the Big Pair's room Gleb announced he was going to pick one of us to be his "nurse" helper/assistant. I thought he would pick Olga or Tatiana, but he picked me!

Later
Alexei now has a fever. his frostbite on his nose is gone, thank the Lord! his toe frostbite is not gone in the least. he has a very not forehead and hands and very cold toes.

7 December, 1913
Yesterday  evening a letter came from Papa. It says he will not be home today as arranged, ut on the tenth, three days from now. I suppose it's for the better, anyways. I prefer it with no frantically worrying Mama at Alexei's bedside, although Papa would know what to do about the doctors. Olga is glad, too. She'd rather not be in trouble because of her argument that happened 2 days ago. I pasted the letter on the other page. He, (Papa,) sounds so loving. I wonder what will happen when he finds out about Father Grigory and Olga;s argument. Gleb says his father is due in an hour or so. Hurray!
To my dear daughters, I regret to say your mother and I will not be home tomorrow as arranged, but on Tuesday, the 10th of December, 1913. I am sorry I could not come home sooner, but affairs of my Tsardom keep me too busy. Your mother sends fond regards to you and Alexei. Fodly, Papa. Postscript: pass this news on to Father Grigory, your tutors and your maids.

Later
Dr. Botkin is here! we are to go to Grandmother's for a break.
They're actually pretty realistic, good job. Can you post the Tatiana ones? She's my favorite btw.
I've noticed that all of OTMA's real diary entries are very short. I suspect it's because life was very similar day in and day out...I'm exactly the opposite, absolutely nothing will happen and I'll write pages and pages in my journal!

I have the same kind of thoughts all the time.

Did you know that trees that Nicholas and Alexandra had planted on the grounds of the Alexander Palace on the births of each of the girls are still there?
Wow, really?? That's so neat! Do you have a picture of the trees? I just looked it up but couldn't find anything.

I had one last night. I was waiting in the bsement of the Ipatiev house with NAOTMAA and my brother and sister, but the room was really well-lit and a lot bigger than the actual room was. Alexei wasn't sick or injured, and he, my siblings, and OTMA and I were running around the room playing tag! Alix and Nicholas were just sitting in their chairs at the other end of the room and watching.

Having Fun! / Strange thought about home videos and trees
« on: January 01, 2010, 09:38:47 AM »
(This is a weird subject)
I was watching a home video of Nicholas II's family, and in it there was a tree rustling in the wind in the corner. And I thought that was really weird! The tree was standing right there where the real people were, at an actual moment, and it might be there still. Seeing the tree and knowing what it really looked like, rustling, despite the less-than-perfect quality of the video, made me realize that if they'd had modern-day-quality flim equipment, we'd see how they really looked while living.
I guess if you watch the home videos, you're getting as close to them as you possibly can, since it's footage of real moments that happened, but there's still a level of separation from the absence of color and sound. And even if I know aspects of their personalities and things they did, I can never know what they were really like on an ordinary basis because I wasn't there. It feels strange to watch the videos becuase you're both close and far to the real people.
Have you ever had a thought like this? It kind of remeinds me of the music from "Russian Ark", because it's peaceful and sort of happy, but sad at the same time. It makes their deaths even more tragic to think of them like this.
Just some thoughts :)

Here's a drawing I did of GDs Olga and Tatiana quite a while back, the big pair is my favorite...I think it was completed last year, it took a long time! I think Tatiana is especially hard to draw, just because of her interesting features.
Impressive...you used a known photo as a starting point of course, but went beyond that and showed us more based on knowing what they looked like...really good!

Yes, I always use photos because I find it really hard to draw without a reference...I'm so glad you like it, thank you :)

Tatiana Nicholaievna / Re: Main talent?
« on: December 31, 2009, 03:21:56 PM »
It's said she played very well but when she played it was more technical and dry; she didn't put any emotion or feeling into it. Olga was more musical and had a good ear for picking out notes on her own. She could even play in the dark.

In the dark? That's pretty impressive! Where did you find that out?

That's really interesting, I didn't know that. Is it true that she was best at piano, but didn't play with as much emotion as Olga did? I've gotten into the Romanovs again after a period of time and have forgotten some things :D
