Rasputin / Re: Ella's Role

Alexandra and Ella already weren't on the best of terms due to Ella's disapproval of Rasputin.  But she must still have felt  confusion, anger, and betrayal when she read the contents of the intercepted communications.  This on top of her devastation at Rasputin's murder must have been terribly hard on her.

Oh. My. God.  This is a long awaited first glimpse at the interior reconstruction.  In color, no less.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting, Alexandre Mickaelovitch!  My imagination is soaring!

Scandanavian Royal Families / Re: Swedish Jewels

The news re arrest of at least one suspect, and likely recovery missing crown jewels is amazing, as well as a huge relief.  Hopefully, all of the stolen jewels will be found with that one cache.

I've often wondered about the value of crown jewels and lesser, though prominent, royal jewels.  They must be very expensive; I remember reading that a diamond and sapphire brooch the Queen Mother gave to Princess Diana as a wedding gift cost $350,000.  Given their lengthy and important histories and associations, the monetary value of crown jewels must be incalculable.

Interior courtyards were used to allow light and air into interior rooms - in everything from palaces to NYC tenements.  Made living in such buildings more pleasant, and people healthier.

I really like this plan, BRNBG.  I can't get enough of studying it.

The floor plan looks interesting.  Alas, the link is not working.

Alexandra Feodorovna / Re: Empress Alexandra - paintings and portraits

I can certainly see why the Kaulbach portrait in the formal reception room of the Alexander Palace, with the sweetness and seriousness Page mentions in her post above, rather than stiffness and formality, was a favorite of Alexandra's.  I imagine she and her family would be amazed to see it hanging there to this day.

I hadn't seen the two photos posted by Sister Romanova on August 11, of Olga and Anna Vyrubova at Livadia.  The first is especially intriguing; I've seen only the well known photo of Alexis and Alexandra sitting in this chair.  I had no idea that it was one of a series.

Joanna, I read your post; the urgency that clearly surrounded Anastasia's illness comes through and is sobering.

My apologies, Tatyana!  I scrolled back up and see it is you who posted the beautiful photos, and you whom I should have been addressing.
