The Final Chapter / Re: One Hundred Years On

It may have all gone silent on the issue of Romanov bones , re-burial , church recognition , etc. But we will likely be getting an academic paper this year detailing the DNA findings of the recent investigation which ,among other things, will confirm the results of 2009 , place the family within a Central European ( ie German) DNA context , and also provide info on other Russian dynasties. If I had the link I would post it but it is buried on Anthrogenica. Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere.

The Imperial Family / Re: Prince Ioann Konstantinovitch (1886-1918) - letters

I started reading this book about Princess Helena Petrovna:

Regarding my own question, I found out that in Imperial protocol Princess Helena had higher place in hierarchy than her husband Ioann. As HRH and daughter of the reigning King, she was placed higher and had "the right" to formally receive diplomats, while her husband, based on his title and place in Imperial family(being downgraded from HIH Grand Duke to HH Prince of Imperial blood) did not have this right, as he kept being "only" HH.

I'm so sad to hear this.  It was his book that got me really interested in the Romanovs and Russian history.  Nicholas and Alexandra is truly a must read for anyone interested in Russian history or the Royal families of Europe.

Okay, this is the ABSOLUTE clearest, but I'd prefer the figures be full length.  Can anyone help?

youtube: there is the 1917 Oesel Genommen a period 31 minute newsreel on the German 1917 capture of the Baltic island of Oesel or Osel AKA Operation Albion

Perhaps I missed it elsewhere, but was it posted anywhere on the AP Forum that Robert Massie passed away?

Just in case it wasn't, here is Paul Gilbert's tribute.

Of course, a Google search will bring up many more obituaries.

Wonderful work, everyone!  Perhaps someone can help me out with a project.  I need a good colorized version of this picture.  This is the absolute best black-and-white version I've found anywhere.

I looked at probably more pictures of Caroline Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr. than should even be allowed and found one which would have been absolutely perfect except for the unfortunate fact of the guard partially obstructing John.  The photographer obviously couldn't take a step to the side as somebody or something was there and if it was another photographer at a better angle I've been unable to find the picture!

In this one they aren't obstructed but the positions are not as perfect.  I thought perhaps photo editing could be used on John's arm and hair to complete the above picture.

If anyone wants to colorize the picture of Alexei and Anastasia in shades and tones which would match the one of John and Caroline and share it here, I would be most grateful.  The pictures will not be published but will appear in a one-of-a-kind artwork.  Thanks.
