She looks just like her sister Luise of Prussia. No wonder her husband King Ernst of Hannover refered to Frederica as "my angel".  :)

Father Odo, a Württemberg Prince said to the author James Pope Hennessy that Princess Marie used to wear the footman's livery botton on a chain around her neck. If true, it would mean that she had tender feelings to him and not abused by the footman as her relatives believed.
Hecht (the footman) later opened a small hotel in Lubeck.

Many years ago I was told by an elderly gentleman (a former officer) a story about Marie. On the first day after the British army had crossed the Rhine in spring 1945 there was a visitor to their new headquarters. He spoke perfect english and arrived in a dogcart with beautiful pony. The visitor must have been a relative of Marie as he asked the Commander to foreward a letter from the Princess to Queen Mary.Have often wondered if the old Queen with her tidy mind sent the letter to the royal archive at Windsor...

I am looking for photographs/paintings depicting Augusta of Cambridge, Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz as a young and middle aged woman.  The only one I have seen that wasn't taken when she was elderly is in Bokelberg & Hamann's "Sisis Fürstenalbum : private Photographien aus dem Besitz der Kaiserin Elisabeth" published by Taschen in 1981 ISBN: 3883792810.  That photograph is quite faded, at least in my copy of the book, and I'd love to see others.

Augusta's photographs as an elderly Grande Dame occur frequently in various publications.  I'd just like to see more of what she looked like as a younger woman.
