Hello

I research personel history of Hippolit Studnitzky, who  was a rear admiral in Russian Navy in Baltic sea from late 1800 to early  1900. He was born 1857 in  Poland (?) and died 1929 in Helsinki, Finland. His  son, Alexander, was  served in cruiser Pallada and killed when U-26 torpedoed cruiser in october  1914. I'd like to make "full investigation" about these  soldiers and I need help  to find any kind of information.  So, please, if You know any hints or information  that might help me, or any  place or sites or something.., please let me know.  All information is very  important to me.

Best Regards

According to this info, Hippolt Studnitsky was Lieutenant General of the Navy (a rank equivalent to Vice Admiral, accorded in 1914). Throughout his career, he was an officer in the navy's hydrographic corps (hence the quasi-army rank) and served in the Pacific, Arctic and Baltic areas.

He apparently had a daughter, S.I. Studnitskaya, who in the 1920s was known in Helsinki as an amateur actress.

Hello Mike

Thank's for information! I'd like to know how You know all this? Can You tell me more or give a hint? I have tried to contact Navy Museum and Navy Archives but no luck.

I know that H. Studnitsky lived in Helsinki 1916-1929. I'm not sure about daughter but I know that he has got a son (Alexander). I got Alexander's letters to his girl friend (1912-1914).

Best Regards

Wolf, my primary source is the Web. But I know how to search in depth in several languages, including Russian.

As to the general's supposed daughter, the actress name was S.I. Ippolitova (Studnitskaya). Obviously Ippolitova was her stage name, and I. was the first letter of her patronimic name. Now, the Russian version of the name Hippolit is Ippolit...

It turns out that Hippolit Studnitsky was not only a hydrographic officer through his naval career. In October 1900, during the "Boxer rebellion" in China, he was the executive officer of the cruiser Ryurik in a rank of commander (kapitan 2-go ranga) and commanded a landing party.
