Suzanne, that is very interesting about what Olga A. said. I remember once that Alexandra tried to get all the girls to go out horseback riding but only Tatiana was persuaded (most likely just to please her mother); all the other girls were too lazy and instead went to the hospital to play with the babies!  Smiley

Thank you very much for all the information you generously provided, Daniel! And for the links, Nena.

For those who don't speak Russian (my Russian is a bit rough at the moment, but this is the basic idea):

The first link shows a granite statue sculpted by Khalramov Matvej Jakovlevich (1870 - 1930). It was opened on August 26th, 1911 and the inscription reads, "To comrades fallen in war. 1904 - 1905." It was devoted to the soldiers of the 148th Caspian Infantry who had died in battles of the Russo-Japanese war of 1904 and the donations for it came from other officers.

The second shows various emblems of the infantry.

You know, it would really interest me, how were the regiments chosen for the girls. Was there any specific reason for Olga to be in charge of Hussars, Maria Dragoons and so on?

A Russian site of Olga's regiment, 3-й гусарский Елисаветградский Ея И. В. В. Кн. Ольги Николаевны полк:
http://olginshtab.narod.ru/
It includes some photos of regiment/members.

Here you can see GD Ella's and GD Michael Alexandrovich's regiments/costimes.
I believe, Ally, giving regiments to Imperial Children was tradition. For specific reason, I don't know. I'll check what Voeikov said.....

Were these uniforms original or made according to description? Where do you find them in present (specific place)?

Tatiana´s uniform has been preserved and is displayed in Alexander Palace. I think Olga´s uniform is there too, but not Maria´s.

I have a question....

It has been stated, that the Grand Duchesses were "given" their regiment when they were 14, usually on namedays.

Olga got hers in 1909, Tatiana in 1911 and Anastasia in 1915. Does that mean Maria got her regiment in 1913? Because the photos of her in regimental uniform are usually labelled as 1915. It would be weird if there were no pictures of her and her regiment, if she really beacme its colonel-in-chief a year before the war.

If I recall correctly, Olga's uniform is held at Pavlovsk.

My mistake then.

According to Russian website, those series were taken on August 5th 1913, at Peterhof . Commander A.I. Martinov is also seen ( seated on left ). It comes from Bulla's atelier. i think it is Catherine Palace too, though not sure.

I'm not certain whether these regimental uniforms belong to OTMA. if they are, will someone please mind identifying whichever belonged to whom?

I think the last thumbnail are regimental uniforms of Olga (white) and Tatyana (blue). Just correct me if i'm wrong.
