Who all had a portrait in the Portrait Hall? And as I was looking at the pictures on the site, I saw this one with a man standing in there. Who is he?

Alexander I is on the right of the door, on the left is a grand duke son of Nicholas I, but Bob isn't sure just now which one.

If you mean the guy standing next to the door, that actually is a mannequin  dressed to look like one of the Nubians of the palace. That photo is from the time when the AP was a museum, in the late 1920s or early 1930s.

I was curious about the same thing so I looked at some of the portraits in the Hermitage and compared them to the photos of the Portrait Room on this sight. The large Portrait on the back of the wall is Alexander on Horseback and is displaed today in waht was the Imperial Bedroom I believe.... One or the portraits bears a resemblance to  one of  Grand Duke Alexander Nikolayevich by
Kruger

Check out the Tsarskoe Selo website and you will see a couple more .

You could make a choice of proper portrait from the following portraits by Kryuger which were in the Portrait Hall that time:
1.Portrait of GD Mikhail Nikolaevitch
2. Portrait of GD Nikolay Nikolaevich
3. Portrait of GD Konstantin Nikolaevich
4. Portrait of the Heir Alexandr Nikolaevich

The Main Enfilade was created by Quarenghi in 1796 and consisted of 3 halls: the Portrait Hall, the Semicircular Hall and the Marble Drawing Room regarded as a single premise subject to a unified artistic conception. The walls and the parquetry pattern of the 3 interiors were the same. If one looks at pictures from 1917 one sees 3 chandeliers, central in each room. I wonder if any survived?

On this other picture taken in 1949, we also see the three chandeliers, so I think that could be evacuated, unless this is only copies?

Vladimir - you are right :-) I have just looked at my pictures and I have a great one of just the ceiling with the chandelier but the lights were on and the picture is dark (indoor without flash 2 years ago) and it looked like the chandelier from the crimson drawing room to me! My mistake :-)

Does anyone have any information on how many original portraits were returned to the restored Portrait Hall? From the one picture I've seen, it appears that the large equestrian portrait of Nicholas I has been returned.

I have never noticed the gathered fabric in the ceiling before. Was it there originally ? It has gone now, and the room looks much better. I hate the "tent' look.

Alexandre64 asked about the chandaliers. IF they were removed, which I doubt, they are certainly back in place now. Please see my photographs on the Alexander Palace Restoration pictures section. They were posted very recently so will be towards the end of the section.
The one in the Empress's Corner Reception Room is identical.  Alan
