was there ever a king louis?

i watched a programme, possibly one of Simon Scama's, that referred to a king louis of England. Apparently at some point before henry VII there was a King Louis who was annointed but never crowned. He has been all but ignored in the standard history books. I can find no trace of him in the geneaologies of the Plantagenet kings. Was I dreaming? I may have his name wrong (but do not think so) and cannot get hold of any books by Simon Schama to check.

Nope, never heard of him but I have the set of books that accompanied the series so I will have a look.
I think this may well be Louis VIII of France who "claimed" sovereignty over England in 1216-1217. ( we are talking about the time of King John here).

That must be the one, the future Louis VIII was actuallly proclaimed King of England in St Paul's Cathedral in 1216 and received homage from many members of the nobility, but he was never crowned and formally renounced his claim in the following year when the tide turned against him.

That must be him, thanks for the help. i was beginning to tkink i'd imagined it especially when i couldn't find anything on the  internet. my mistake was in thinking he was an English prince, possibly connected to Henry II or EdwardIII. It's great to get it sorted out.
