Re: Translating V.I. Yakovlev's 1928 "The Alexander Palace-Museum in Detskoye Selo"
I had some trouble with this one because it had a lot of religious themes. If anyone wants to correct, please feel free!
p. 402
Among the icons, a gift from a peasant of the Tver county(?), the 68-year-old self-taught Mikhail Terentev, which looks awful because of its amateurish even among the works of the most common icon painters.
On the tables by the bed there are more icons, eggs, [??], a cross and religious books, in particular: The New Testament and prayer book (?) presented with blessing by the Metropolit Antoniy in 1909. For the praying memory from the Mother Superior (?) of Voznesensky Monastery of Evgeniya; the blessing of Alexandra Fedorovna; four bibles (?) (small pocket editions), received in memory from [??] A.A. Khotovsky from New York in 1909.
Inside the night table: "Passion" (?) (the explanatory) (?) - presented to the members of the imperial family in Fedorovsky Imperial Cathedral; canonical (?) St. Andrei Krtiskiy; a grade of the holy and religious lithurgies [?] to Our Holy Father Vasily the Great with an inscription: "To His Imperial Highness, the Heir Tsesarevich and Grand Duke Alexei. Pray to the Prelate Father Vasily for him. Lord keep and save him for the happiness of his autocratic parents and the whole Land of Russia. Bless you in my mind, Your sinful Arkhim. Varnava. January 10, 1910."
In the armoire [??] is a large collection of small (bodily) icons and crosses, sent by....

Thanks FA for clarifications. Will you put up on another thread the cleaner versions for us to follow as completed or do you want each translator to repost here on this thread. Final version will be eventually (after 500+ pages are laboriously worked on!) on the AP site!
Does anyone know the correct translation of the following words in red as I am encountering them often and am super puzzled:
стены оклеены светлыми обоями с
легкнм рисунком

Please start a second thread with the clean translations, with pages clearly marked PLEASE, so I can eventually put them up. Thanks

Actually, I think in this case it means "with a light pattern", "light" as in "not dark" or "not bright". So the entire thing says "wallpaper with a light pattern".

This sounds like "museum of communications".

I think this means something like "carved by burning" - I am not sure if there is a specific term for this, but it's drawing made with a very hot metal point instead of a pencil or ink. "исполненный" means "performed by, or "made by".... which could also be translated as "carved" or "drawn" in this case (I think....).

"С легким рисунком" means "delicately patterned", i.e. the pattern doesn't contrast against the background.

I have since being told today of the wood burning method so would this make sense: portrait of Nikolai II, a wood-burn carving,?

The term is "pyrography". I would translate it thus: "a pyrograph portrait of Nicholai II" or "a portrait of Nicolai II, done in pyrography"
