It is *supposed* to be a place to discuss the Russian revolution (any and all of them, and it is your VIEW, not fact, this "counter" business), but it is, due to the nature of this website (a focus on the Imperial era of Russia), impossible to engage in serious discussion. There are two highly-opinionated, fixated, unbudgeable camps here.  If one cares to jump on the merry-go-round just for giggles now and then (which is what it's become for me, personally) FINE.

So, what ALWAYS winds up happening is:  1. those on one's "side" enjoy a sort of "mutual admiration society" 2. The opposition spouts the usual rhetoric  3. The same exchanges occur, much like a tennis match, only nobody wins 4. If one begins to *truly* speak one's mind, the thread gets locked.

Rinse and repeat until one stops procrastinating and gets back to real life and its attendant resposibilities, or simply find something better to do than be "board."
Because the procedure above is only and will remain an exercise in futility.

If you like Imperial times so much (stop denying it, will you?) why not read and post on the threads where people have an area of expertise in specific aspects of that era -- the military, jewels, photos, etc.  Those sections can be quite fascinating, very educational, and seldom controversial.

True, it is my view that the Bolshevik coup was a counter-revolution. I picked this up from Alaxander Yakovlev, who presented a great case against the Soviet Empire in the book I mentioned in a few posts back. If there was ever a Nuremberg-Style trial against still-living NKVD agents (which is not at all likely), this would be exhibit A.

You constantly saying that I long for Imperial Russia is just a canard and a rather pathetic one. I really have little interest in Imperial Russia. Are you saying that since I think Lenin and Communism was bad I somehow think the Tsars were good? Sorry, but that's just not the case at all and I think you know it. That reminds me of a debate I had with a Stalinist on another message board that since I was against Stalin I must be for Hitler. Talk about ridiculous!  Roll Eyes

But how can you judge it if you haven't seen it?
Now who is propagandistic?

Well I've heard enough about it to know that it shows Che in nothing but a favorable light. I'd probably get mad and throw my popcorn at the screen then get kicked out of the theatre, wasting $7.50 of my hard-earned money on another piece of Hollywood crap.

The Road to Perdition

"Harry Potter" all three

Can't think of any others at the moment.

Oh, ha ha. Funny, those who wish to discuss the atrocities of the Communists are always accused of this, but no one is accused of "living in the Second World War" if they bring up the atrocities of the Fascists. Strange double standard there. Both are worthy of discussion in my opinion.

The avatar is General Augusto Pinochet Ugarte, arch-demon of the Communist Left (although Joe McCarthy might be a bigger one).

"Add up all of Pinochet’s victims in Chile over the two decades of his rule — which have probably generated more western media outrage than all Communist crimes put together — and you might be able to fill a week’s quota of political murders in Russia’s Red Terror." - Sean McMeekin
