For such a lovely woman, she had a pretty fierce profile!

Alix was a beatiful woman...But I always wondered why she became old so fast...Her sister Ella was older than her, and she seems to be younger....And in some of her pics you may see a very fat Alix, and in another pic about the same year or period of time, she became thin again...What a mystery.  Huh

That might be easier to explain than you think - very thin ones could have been taken after one of the four longer fasting periods during any given year. Or, perhaps after she had been laid up ill or something like that. I know that I can drop as much as 4 kilos or more during a fast, and I don't have much to lose as it is!

What is it? Looks like a cat or Guinea Pig. Can anyone help me?

It looks like a kitty cat to me, Robby. I see little pointy ears!  Cheesy

If that's a cat, it has the strangest face and front legs I have ever seen, but I don't remember reading that they kept Guinea pigs, but then who knows?

I'd also bet it's a cat -- there's a whole series of photos of the children playing with a basket of kittens on board the Standart.

I have seen a better version of this picture. It is indeed one of the kittens.

I don't suppose anyone happens to have any pictures of any of the IF (or any other royalties of that era) holding a guinea pig?

(I love guinea pigs, know they kept them but have never seen any pictures of them!!  Cheesy)

Do you mean this one? It's a cat. I also thought it was a G. pig when I first saw it.

It's a bit too big for a guinea pig...It surely is a cat...Still no guinea pigs then?  Sad

I can't see Alexandra holding a guinea pig with that white dress, unless she had no previous guinea pig experience. Grin
