TheVolume 4 on GD Sergei has been recently issued.

This book is about 1884-1894 years of GD's life. I find the Volume very interesting (even more than 3 previous) - mainly correspondence of GD Sergei with his brothers Alexander III and GD Pavel, cousin GD Konstantin K. (KR) and some members of his suite. There are also memoirs of his a-d-c Djunkovskiy. And letters of his wife GDss Elizaveta - only from March 1892 - when she was in Darmstadt after her father's death and GD was in Moscow.

Thanks Svetabel for the news, I will run to the bookstore as soon as possible! Do you know if they will continue the publication until the year 1905 and the death of the Grand-duke? I was also looking for Djunkovsky's memoirs, they were published a few years ago but I can not find them, only large extracts on the internet and in the Correspondance of GDss Elisabeth with tsar Nicolas II. Did you see these books somewhere?

I think the whole volumes of Djunkovskiy's memoirs are not published. The early years of his life and carrier one can find as extracts in other books ( you mentioned one of them). I tried to locate the last publication of his memoirs but still couldn't.

My guess the volume 5 on GD Sergei is quite possible. The 4 Volume was such a long-awaited edition - it's very fat actually in size if compare to previous volumes.

Right. But there are only 1905-1915 years of his memoirs in these 2 volumes.

Well I knew the son's didn't care for Serge, I had not heard of the mother. But you're right , the love of the monarch is always a reason for other's envy.

In fact, Olga Federovna's son George was a close friend of Serge, as was his wife Marie of Greece who's sister Princess Alexandra was the first wife of his brother, the Grand Duke Paul.

Serge's diaries appear to be typically Romanov generic. The diaries of the Grand Duke Konstantine K. are the exception. Serge's correspondence with relations & friends would prove more insightful. Because Serge & Elizabeth would rarely be separated during their marriage there exists no paper trial that would throw first hand light on their relationship. If there exists a letters between Serge and Elizabeth hopefully you will consider one day translating the most interesting ones for readers on this forum. It would be greatly appreciated.

Interestingly, the Grand Duke Dimitri's diaries are now available to researchers & were sourced by I. Miller for her book "The Four Graces, Queen Victoria's Hessian G...

Marie of Greece was indeed much loved by GD Sergei and his wife. But her husband Georgiy was not GD Sergei's real friend, I'd say, more a relative with the same hobbies (art, literature, theatre).

There are letters of Grand Duchess Elizaveta to her husband: of 1892, 1895,1897,1900 years. The couple was rarely seen separated, they almost everywhere were together, that's why not so much correspondence between them. But the letters of GD Sergei to his wife - the same years as of hers - don't exist. Anyway their relationship is more or less clearly seen through the GDss' letters ot GD and from the GD's diary.
