The top two photos were taken onboard Polar Star.  Imperial yacht of the Empress Marie.

The bottom three photos taken onboard Standart. Imperial yacht of Nicholas II

These two yachts often traveled together acting as decoys.  They were purposely designed along similar lines.  The IF would travel over to the Grandmother's yacht for luncheon in the afternoon.

New for me...not sure if there rare so I'm posting here.

Alexei

Thank you, Douglas. I have a feeling a fair number of the photos in my 'Standart' file may in fact be the Polar Star. I should probably start an ID thread to sort them out...

Yes, Sarushka, that sounds like a good idea.    Many books have mislabled photos of the various Imperial yachts.  I might be able to assist you.

Here is Alexei being given some of the Standart sailors soup.  The point being that the Heir is not so good that he is above eating the food of the common sailor of the yacht.  There was a long tradition of the Tsar sampling soldiers food.

Looking down into the Standart engine room.  If the engines were running there would be warm air coming out of the open hatches.  It would be a good place to stand on a cold day.

This photo has been labeled Standart on another thread.  This is actually onboard "Polar Star". This is the aft deckhouse which was much smaller than the aft deckhouse on the Standart.

Well done, Aglaya! That is one of my favorites. I believe it was taken in early August of 1916, since Z. Makarov left at mid of August. Bank near Dnieper River, Heir called 'Evpatoria' - like place at South Crimea.  And ones of his happier days he spent there, while visiting General Headquarters, at Mogilev. He used to rode motor - bike in fields around.  Sometimes with Igor Konstantinovch he ran into the water, or sailed with little Yacht along the River during summer days.

I believe same day -- it is labeled 'seredina augusta 1916' what means 'Mid of August of 1916'. I think many photos from that period can be found in IF's private Albums.

Alexi on the Standart.  They crew would overlay the teak deck with canvas or carpets, as we see here.  Behind him are the side cabinets that hold the mechanism for lowering the lifeboats.  He is wearing a cap that says "Standart" in gold Cyrillic lettering.

Thanks for posting, Aglaya...!  post #46 w/photo
