I must say that I am quite disappointed that the Gold Coach will not be used and there will be no procession to St. Pauls.
This would give a greater amount of people a chance to see Her Majesty and Prince Philip;  and a coach procession with all members of The Royal Family would be remeniscient of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897.......

Yes, terribly sad in a year when Britain is supposed to be showing the best of itself...  I don´t know who makes these decisions!

I agree it's sad and short-sighted. For the Golden Jubilee the Queen and the Duke went to St Paul's in the Gold State Coach, though they returned in the Bentley given to the Queen by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

For the sake of modernity they could always use the Australian State Coach, a recent creation with computer-aided springing!

Well, in the current ecconomic climate, when everyone is expected to cut back, this is the result.  These events costs millions to put on. And at the 50th, that  Rolls came back damaged as I recall. Something minor, not found until he went back to the  garage. The big show this time is the Thames flotilla. And Lucien, what was that- recycling old QM  cups for the Queen's Jubilee ? Odd.
 Joan Collins. She is so camp it is hard not to give her a smile.  That dress is definitely not Primark,  but still, it is ugly. And the curtsy,  one would think that after all these years of meeting royalty, she would have that bit down like an old hat. Perhaps it was just the camera angle ?

No,the chinese manufacturer used the images of the late Queen Mum instead of aunt Lillibeth.... ..

Oh,and on JC...that wasn't the camera angle Robert,that was Joan in a camp cramp...The Queen of England and the queen of queens..

How odd about those cups. One would think someone actually proofed them before sending them out. But, this has happened before, I think. To the Chinses manufacturers, I think one royal looks much the same as another.

Same happened last year,they took Harry's image together with Catherine on mugs too....What do they know....
Or these poor a Pound a day working ladies in nasty dirty & dusty smelly Chinese factories......

I wouldn't have thought that a carriage procession was necessarily more expensive than a motorcade, or not much. The postillions, coachmen etc are paid whatever they do and the horses still need to be fed. Possibly the streets need to be lined for rather longer (the Gold Stage Coach goes at walking pace) but that's all I can think of.

If I had to guess, some of the extra cost may come from the enormous security required for a coach procession.  A car can speed away quickly if need be, the Gold Coach cannot.  That must mean the entire route would have to be much more secured than with a car.

One seems to rarely hear about security measures and costs in Britain, but here in the US I'm always astonished by the staggering costs to secure our president whenever he travels.  A single hour long visit somewhere can cost hundreds of thousands in security, but if that same visit involves outdoor or open-air exposure or other extra threats, the costs can double or triple.  (And the doesn't even include the costs of the prostitutes for the Secret Service, ha).

I suppose also that - costs aside - there may be inside knowledge / fears of specific threats against the Queen and  RF which might have been taken into consideration. 

I imagine that the flotilla isn´t exactly the safest form of transport either then!!  It is a particular disappointment for me personally as my parents were fortunate enough to have wone tickets in the ballot for seats at the Victoria Memorial to watch the procession!!!

 The difference with the flotilla is that it is in the middle of the river,  harder to get to [as targets, perhaps].
 And, according to what I read  at the last Jubilee, it was all the  police overtime, extra insurance, food, etc. that brings the cost up so much.  They would bring in police from other  areas of Britain, they have to be housed and fed.
 Darius,  your parents have not lost out- they will have excellent views of the traditional  balcony scene.
