If Alexei had been born a girl, Rasputin and a bunch of other problems would have been avoided - N & A aren't likely to have any more children although there would still be pressure on them to bare an Heir

What are people's thoughts?

Well if they had had a fifth daughter, they would still have tried for a son, I think and although Rasputin may or may not have shown up, bothe the Russo Japanese war and the First world war would have happened and probably there would have been the same course of events.  You would have to differentiate which events were dependant on Alexei and which ones weren't.
